  1. You've got a Quillback in garden pond? Holy Crap ! ! ! You are a crazy man. Screw the Tenkara, I want to use a light spinning rod.
  2. One day maybe I will go for Carp on Tenkara. I'd prefer something much smaller for the first one though. I think I'd need a much different pole for carp.
  3. My Dad really likes them. He said they are night and day better than White Bass.
  4. Arkansas Game and Fish considers Yellow Bass to be an " Undesirable Rough Fish". What the heck is up with that?
  5. They make barbless trebles. Just sayin.
  6. I think this was first fish of the day.
  7. Typical White River stocker.
  8. PJ is a nice jig. I like the head design, the hook, and the amount of feathers on the Zig Jig better. Sounds like y'all had a good trip. Maybe I should have tried White.
  9. It sure was pretty!
  10. The flys are a little bigger than a Zig jig. Zig jig on top is unfished. One in bottom after 40 plus fish. It was still getting bit, but it was so sparse I lost confidence in it and changed it
  11. This is the sky I like for trout
  12. Had some catching up to do around the house before I could think of doing anything else, but things went well and I was able to make a little fishing trip this afternoon. drug the trout boat up to the ramp just below the BSL dam. Water was about 8000 CFS when I got there. They turned one off and turned another unit on, but it did seem like the water level dropped a little bit as I fished. Sunny with some high clouds which I like. Warm. A lot more wind than I like but I made it work. I threw Zig jigs. Shocker right? 6 lb Nano/ 6 lb leader. Browning Air Stream rod. The fish were tight to bottom and better close to shore. I had a lot of nice fish, but no Giants. 18 inch Brown was best fish. I caught 62 fish in less than 5 hours of fishing. I also collect 3 big articulated flys out of bushes. Still in great shape with sharp hooks. Ill have to look and see exactly what the water level was. It was a great level for that section of the river.
  13. Day Two is over. Still tough conditions and 31 flavors of idiots to deal with. Kept our heads down and finally found a nice group of Whites and Yellows. I finished day 2 with 31 fish. More great memories made fishing with my Daddy.
  14. GYCB colors. 157, 297, 236, 051, 323, 903 (I think- Natural Shad), 187 ( I think root beer , green flake, black flake)
  15. A muddy rise finally hit the areas we are fishing. It's still fish able and we caught between 30-40 fish. My Dad was hoping we'd catch 200. Weather was fantastic. I enjoyed the day. We'll give another go tomorrow.
  16. It's pretty slow, but we are catching fish and the company is great.
  17. I end up using quite a few 1/8 oz heads because I am often fishing 20-35 FOW a lot of the time. I'm not fishing deeper than that. I can. I choose not to do so.
  18. I like the squarebills, but I like most squarebills.
  19. Dave, what size would you use for fishing > 20 foot deep?
  20. I'm pushing all my chips to the center of the table and driving south this afternoon. I'll be fishing with my father who is 84 so I don't imagine the trips will start early or last until dark. IF you know me, you know I want to catch every fish in the lake every time I go, but I'll try to restrain myself and leave a little in the tank for the next day. My optimistic plan is to fish Friday and Saturday then go to church with him on Sunday and drive home after church. I'd rather he did not get sick immediately after I left which he has done before. They were really catching them prior to a weather event which brought the river up a bunch north of where I'll be fishing, but that rise has not translated much downstream. I hope to catch a bunch, but regardless we have a very nice weather forecast and I will be fishing with my Dad which seems to get more bittersweet every time I get to go with him. The Sabine is known for large runs with very large fish. This has been a very good year up to this point. Lets hope it holds. I'll try to post pics and updates.
  21. Shush Dave
  22. Which Luck E Strike soft plastic should I be mourning the loss of. Nothing comes to mind.
  23. Every time I try some tweak to a technique to open it up for crappie or deep bluegill or walleye or catfish MOST of what I catch on it are smallies. examples: deep spoon tipped with gulp for big bluegill = smallies Shad Rap 4's and 5"s strolled for crappie on flats in springtime = smallies 3 inch gulp minnows on Ned Heads for walleye or catfish = more smallies dropping small plastics at the base of sinken trees in 20-30 FOW = smallies Bull Shoals has a smallie problem.
