17.5 on a Super Spook Jr

It's proabably a little early for the spy bait to shine. I'm convinced it's gonna work and I'm trying it for a little whie each time I go. The panfish (crappie, bluegill, Long Ears) are thumping it. The bass just load on it. There's not much of a bite, just extra weight. I'm interested in seeing what the walleye bite and white bass bites are like on it. Most def. The Ned is still working. Still kicking butt and taking names. And Longnose Gar and Log Perch to the fish that can be caught on it. Real nice quality fish yesterday (I got the date wrong ). The tube got some real nice fish as well. You can just throw a tube if you want. You'll have about 20% of the total caught on the Ned. but you'd have a much larger average size fish.

I fished with Cajunangler yesterday out of Leadhill. We fished from 0745 until 2015. We had heavy clouds and light wind. A little rain off and on. Clouds got thin at times and thicker at times, but we always had some clouds. Water was very clear in the main lake and pretty clear in the creeks. Water temps were always around 75.5' We saw a handful of boats throughout the day, but no one ever crowded us or was really very close at all. I love the separation that BSL affords you. Fishing is very good right now. Lots of quality fish and lots of smaller fish growing up behind them. The spawn this year although it was delayed should be excellent again. I hope people don't take this for granted. We had good fish on topwaters, tubes, and the Ned. We had hits on swimbaits, but caught zero on it. I tried the spybait from time to time. I caught a panfish on it and lost a nice chunky bass on it. I also had a smallie on it briefly. I did not land a bass with it. It gets bit EVERYTIME I fish it, but I AM NOT catching fish on it. There are some fish everywhere, but I expect patterns and locations are changing daily. To be successful, pay attention to the fish you catch. Repeat what's working and fish areas similar to the areas where you are catching your fish. Sounds easy right. We ended up with just under 120 fish caught. Over 110 of them were bass. We had a couple of walleye. A couple of panfish. Cajunangler caught a Logperch ! We had multiple > 17 inch smallies on Topwater and a lot of quality smallies on the Ned. I was shocked that the majority of our fish were smallies. Another great day in the boat with Cajunangler. He's a good stick.

I got a > 20 inch walleye on BSL on the Ned yesterday, but it wouldn't be my bait of choice in Canada for walleye fishing.

Tackle Warehouse has several suitable jigheads in weedless and non weedless versions. I bought some skinny bear weedless jigs. The hook is a little large (1/0), but I've caught plenty on it. Gopher tackle has the mushroom jigheads. Non weedless only. Get the 1/16 oz in a #2 hook. I've caught 100's of fish on that jighead. It's pretty weedless even without a wire guard.

Just think how good it would throw with 8 lb Nano.

Their eyes definitely give them a sight advantage in low light conditions.

I've hung more than a few walleye on Bull Shoals while crappie fishing docks. Most of them have been too big to handle and they wrap in brish piles or the frame of the dock and break me off. I did get a 22 inch one last year though on a crappie grub off a boat dock. .

Justin mabe you guys could plant a butterfly and humming bird Garden full of the flowering plants to pull them in for guest to observe.

They're not always friendly with each other around feeders like that. It's very interesting the noises they make and the dive bomb runs they make at each other.

The ear flap looks a little Redear-ish. The random scale colors reminds me of a Pumpkinseed, but I'monly sure that it's some form of hybrid.

Heck, that would be a bargin at twice the price!

The undercut bluff in the photo had a lot of flowers on the plants growing on it. The flowers were being worked by bees and butterflies and little tiny flower parts and pieces were slowly falling into the water. The recent rains and or springs also had lots of little drips coming off the rocks and the plants hanging down. Sunshine was filtering down thru the trees with the wind moving the branches to and fro. It was very scenic. I took a few moments to switch back and forth from macro view to a micro view in my mind. And then back to the fishing.

I guess the main reason I posted was to talk about potential danger of newly falled trees on less commercially serviced waterways. The flow was not so severe that we were in danger, but with a higher flow and a little distraction at the wrong time, it could get real bad in a hurry. Please Be Careful on "new" water or your first trip after high water events.

I'm not ever giving the details on the smallie floats I do. I guess I will for the Buffalo or Current Rivers. I can't imagine my posting about them would ever bring additioal pressure to bear on them, but it could impact the quality of my fishing on the smaller streams I fish soooit's a stream in Missouri within a 3 hour drive of Mtn Home.

Thanks Unimog! I love my boat. I'm pretty sure I'll be in Bass Cats from now until I die. I do wish it had a little better storage on the back deck, but I love the livewells it has and the easy accesss to everything in the bilge. I'll be in the market for another Bass Cat in 5 or 6 years so I'll see what Bass Cat is making in 2017 or 2018. I'll try to by lightly used if I can find one I like.

I floated with cajunangler for 3 days in my Old Town Camper down a little Missouri stream. We started fairly far up and covered 20 something miles for the three days. Most of the water was "new" to me and some was "new" to cajunangler. It's been a few years since I had done any of it and I really had almost no memory of it. We try to float so many of the area creeks and rivers that they all blend in my head sometimes. This was my first float of the year. I had been running the roads pretty hard the day before (drove 12 hours from the gulf coast) and was a little off my game. It was nice to get back on a river though. I wanted to do the lower Buffalo, but I called BS because I thought the fishing might be off because of the higher flow rates. We caught them pretty good so I'm at the very least happy with that part of the deal. Being that far up the stream created so issues. There must not be a lot of commercial traffic up there because we had to drag thru or portage around a lot of trees that went all the way across the river. The water is still cool enough to have a little bite. Lower 70's maybe. Water was mostly clear, but some areas had a light stain possibly due to cows in the river. Floating past cows in the river always concerns me a bit. Cows are dumb and unpredictable at times. As usual, we had my poor old canoe loaded down. I'm sure it would handle better IF I didn't put so much in it and have lots of stuff above the gunnels. I think we needed about 7 inches of water to not drag. Lol. I pretty much only use the canoe to do these camping trips and we trade off time in front of the canoe. I am FINALLY starting to get more comfortable and confident with steering the boat thru tougher spots. Fishing was slow the first day, but we dialed in a little bit and by the end of the three days we had caught over 300 fish altogether. Cajunangler got the best of me this trip. He had more fish and several real nice smallies on top water baits. Cajunangler is a gravelbar gourmet. We had some wonderful Ribeye steaks the first night. He had marinated them for ~ 24 hours prior to grilling them. We had great seasoned porkchops the second night. We had sweet corn and toasted some bread both nights. We have gotten a little soft in our advancing age and have started doing toasted bread and grilled sausage for breakfast each morning. We have really nice sandwhiches of the river both days. We had plenty of water and sodas to keep us hydrated. We saw tons of snakes of which a surprizing number were cottonmouths. We also saw Bald Eagles, turkeys, and lots of other wildlife. The weather was great. Three days with minimal stress and lots of laughs. It's getting warmer and I've always got crap going on so likely no more camping trips until next September, but I'm looking forward to it already.
