  1. I too enjoy nymphing in the faster waters. Glad you had a chance to get out and have a good trip. Thanks for sharing!
  2. Wow! What a day and what a fish! Congrats you two!
  3. No problem! Best of luck. Also, my favorite spot to fish is the "rebar hole". To get there go down the steps at outlet 3 and look for the stretch of riffles slightly left, or down stream with the rebar sticking out of it. I have the best success just above and below the first rebar sticking up, however there were some 20"+ fish cruising the calm water just ahead of the riffles on the parking lot side in the deeper channel. I hooked into one for a couple minutes that I will go into detaail more when I have time to post a real report, as I am working on classes now.
  4. With no added generation going through the dam you can wade no problem. With one unit on you can wade and have limited success near the outlets. Just head for the parking lot side of the water if they blow the horn, but you can still fish the rise with potentially great success. Fly selection is pretty standard. I personally use (do to a lack of experience with dries and woolys that are also successful) a tandem indicator rig with a green or gray scud or red san juan above a PTN, zebra midge or wd40. I personally again usually fish around a size 16 but others seem to have success anywhere from size 12 to 24 and smaller yet. Also terrestrial patterns should still be producing if the conditions are right and it might be late enough in the year to throw some egg patterns as well. I have never fished from a boat. People have great success but I am too tight to spring for it If you go this route stop by and see Phil at Lilley's Landing of course, and I would also see him for buying the flys that are suggested here and for further suggestions. I hope to talk the wife into letting me come down in the a.m. tomorrow. If I am able to and you see me come say hey. I will have on a well worn New York Yankees ball cap, light gray waders (along with 50 other guys LOL) and more than likely a light blue "ventilated" shirt. The real give away will be my bright orange hydration pack that I carry my gear in. Hope you do well and I hope I make it down! Please report back
  5. What an accomplishment! Something I hope to do one day as well.
  6. Phil, absolutely wonderful video. Thank you for taking the time out of your trip and away from your fishing to shoot the footage for us. It is -GREATLY- appreciated!
  7. Glad you had a good trip even with the mishaps. Mountauk is on my list to hit in the (hopefully) near future.
  8. I would love to make this trip as well. It would be nice to meet some more guys from this board and I am sure I could learn a thing or two if I paid attention. Lord knows there is a ton I don't know. I too however won't know until nearly the week before if I will be able to make. Oh and can I bum a ride in someones canoe? I am young and can paddle all day long and have decent skills. I can back float pretty well but I would hate to be hitting people and trees/bank with my gear since I wouldn't be able to see where I could cast...
  9. *edit* Fiocchi USA, is headquartered in Ozark, MO.
  10. For the record, Fiocchi is in Ozark, MO.
  11. If it were me I would also read though recent posts and posts from around the same time in years past.
  12. Very nice! Makes me want to get over that way and give it a shot!
  13. Happy Birthday all!
  14. Good story. Way better than anything I could write. Where did you say this lake is? LOL
  15. Seems perfectly reasonable to me. Maybe you should change your verbage though. If you billed it as a $10 fee, but only $5 if you didn't park it would seem as though you are cutting the launch only crowd a deal instead of sticking it to (which I don't think you are) the people that park. Just my 2 cents.
  16. I will have to tie some larger ones and try my luck. I should clarify, that by saying no longer than 16 I only meant I don't use them, not necessarily that they will not work. I still need to get down there some night and get some lessons from you Leonard!
  17. I usually fish either a pheasant tail nymph or zebra midge, no larger than a 16, underneath a green or grey scud, also no larger than 16, all below a strike indicator, presented with a drag free drift. Make a couple of mends in your line and then let the rig swing out when it reaches the end of the drift and always set the hook at the end of the drift. Please excuse my run-on of a sentence.
  18. Well, turns out I can get away for a few hours Saturday a.m. and I am planning on hitting Taney if they aren't gen'ning all day. Hope it lets up so we can get away.
  19. It really isn't that hard to pick up. I put in several hours of research online, both write ups and how-to videos, then practiced in the yard quite a bit before I hit the water. I would still like to take advantage of the free class at Bass Pro to improve myself though.
  20. Unbelievable! Thanks so much for sharing. Can't wait for the detailed report!
  21. What a post whore. Managed to turn one post into a whole page.
  22. I might be able to make it to Taney on Sunday. Family obligations will keep me away the rest of the weekend.
  23. Two words: Fly fishing. End of story. Get some waders at the BPS outlet, get an inexpensive combo that includes everything from rod to leader and add some tippett. Take a free casting lesson at BPS. Pick up some strike indicators and flys then head down to Taney and viola, your shore fishing woes are over. P.S. don't forget the trout stamp. I make it down there quite a bit and although I am no pro would be more than happy to show you the ropes, and also some pointers to save money.
  24. It is very tempting to me at the discounted price. I am looking for first hand feedback in regards to additional charges, reliability, user friendliness etc.
