  1. It is a shame that ramp off of Riverview Drive has been abandoned. The silt build-up was too much to deal with, apparently. Also I heard of tales of people launching boats from the bricks at Laclede's Landing. I agree with SMS_Alum in that it is nice having places to fish without driving three hours -- I live in that area.
  2. SB, Do you put in at Columbia Bottoms? That ramp gives me the willy's.
  3. We have a lot of them around our house in North St. Louis County. I relocated two from the woods to the yard and they were full this year. Paw Paws are a love/hate thing for me. They ARE rich and custard-like but there is an after-taste that I have difficulty getting over. It is just there is all of this free food in the yard. I did not know they contain all of the essential amino acids.
  4. We all know the guy in front should catch more fish because he is fishing water before the guy in back but I wonder exactly how much is the advantage?
  5. I fish Spanish Lake in North County with the canoe. It is not a wilderness experience but there are fish in there. North/Sunfish Lakes, just next door, do offer a peaceful experience but I cannot catch anything there.
  6. Can you imagine the experience it was for the animal to pass all of these peach stones? Ahh... let's change the subject.
  7. I only need two things: Trail Mix and G&W Landjaeger.
  8. You know I counted them up and I have been fishing 15 times this year. Off the top of my head I would have claimed much less. This includes six straight days at Table Rock with the boat while Candy and were on vacation and four times at Spanish Lake in North St. Louis County for a couple hours in the canoe weekend mornings.
  9. Thanks for the replies, this is a great group. ID10T: I did turn off 3G on my Samsung Rugby and it works well here in St. Louis. I will see if that makes any different in the hills. And I did catch fish -- I just need to get them to quit spitting out a Zara Spook, but that would be a different topic. Feathers and Fins and FlyfishingFool: My company has an agreement with Verizon whereby they will issue me an Iphone -- I might go that route. Regarding my boss: Actually he has nothing to do with it -- it is just the nature of my job. The guy to whom I would have to do some expainin' would be the guy that comes in from another state for an outage in my area while I was fishing or hunting. I also bought a cell phone amplifier. It does increase my signal at my house but did not work at camp. The first picture is of the inside antenna connected to a battery and the second is the outside antenna.
  10. My job just changed and I am on call 24/7. Response time is negotiable but I am expected to answer the phone. I like to spend the occasional weekend in the Arcadia Valley (fishing Crane Lake and the St. Francis River and camping at Marble Creek). My question is this: In the experience of all what carrier has the best performance away from large cities? I currently have AT&T and lose connectivity five miles away from Ironton and Fredericktown. What if you buy a car and find out it stops running when you go five miles from town and you were just supposed to accept it?
  11. Hearing stories of you guys with 100-fish days makes me want to give this crap and pick up golf again -- except I wasn't any better at that. I have threatened to buy tee-shirts that say "I didn't catch jack-!@#$. I am just the outboard mechanic." But occasionally I do hook into something and then I am happy.
  12. I used a u-bolt welded to a nut that threaded onto my crank and a come-along for my Chrysler.
  13. Creek Wader, I came up with this idea for my solo. The storage area had suction cups that didn't suck -- so I mounted two u-bolts and clamped one bungee and the other bunge is under the lip. I set my rods on it and shelf installed in the bow under the deck. It keeps everything off the floor and the canoe has not been altered, at all.
  14. I am in no way a fish snob. But those scales on carp just give me the willies.
  15. Make sure all of the connections are clean. It sounds like something is creating restistance in the Humminbird circuit.
  16. Apparently I am in the wrong topic....I thought this would be about the Milwaukee Brewers of last year.
  17. It was a crazy winter and spring! I have broccoli plants that lived through the winter and I have been picking broccoli from them for almost a whole year.
  18. Depth finders, in my experience, consume little current and it is not important what battery they are connected to. Now it is possible the multi-function color units take more than the monochrome units I have used in the past. Regarding the Tilt/Trim switch: it is a SWITCH and only has one leg (positive or negative) of the circuit connected to it. The other leg goes directly to the tilt/trim motor -- so you can't access voltage at the switch.
  19. Why can't fifteen minutes go by when I don't see some bait I don't have but desperately need? Now it is the "Top Dollar"! I was just at the tackle store yesterday.
  20. I just assumed the guy was six inches tall.
