Mdc Investigation Of Ray Co. Mtn Lion Killing
Stoneroller replied to Trout Commander's topic in Conservation Issues
still leaves the unanswered question of why criminal charges aren't being brought against all 3 for Obstruction of Justice. They all admittedly LIED, they all amittedly covered up information during an investigation. I'd offer that the simple fact that they tried to cover it up proves they knew what they had done was illegal. Why try to hide it and make up such an elaborate lie, involving others, if it were really a justified shooting. They were SOOO scared they went and got the 'rancher' to kill it?? really? i mean how much BS is the MDC willing to belive? They claim they don't have a law that allows them to press charges when people lie to investigators? are they out of their freaking minds???? OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE!! it's plain and simple. MDC is clearly falling all over its self to cover all this up and sweep it under the rug. Pathetic that our wildlife have a dept so blind to 'watch' over them. -
cats hate chasing things. the proper way to react to a mt lion (for some forum users) would be to scream like a little girl, relieve yourself down your pant leg, turn and run, while flailing your arms wildly above your head. maybe drag something along the ground to help cover your tracks, like a shirt or a nice juicy steak on a string...

Rapala Clackin Family
Stoneroller replied to Shad Attack's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
i picked up a few of each this winter to try next season. I dont see why they wouldn't work, great quality baits from a company that has never failed to impress me. -
hate it when i 'mash my ugly stick'...

i've been looking at this kayak as a 2nd ride, especially for rivers, as my trident 13 is great for lakes and open water but a bit of a challenge to manuever in flowing water. I'm hoping they'll have one at the st louis boat show so i can check it out first hand. i've seen it msrp'd at $900 which really isn't that bad. something i really like is the raised seat that way you aren't sitting on wet seat all day. it's also really wide and stable which is nice for standing. i can do that with no problem in my trident but with the raised seat of the coosa it would be a lot faster and easier. it's not a kayak i would buy if i wanted one for lakes and rivers as the high profile would be hell in wind.

so I may have mentioned my theory on MDC's position on mt lions involves someone high up being an elk lover and not wanting to travel to hunt elk along with not having competition from mt lions. (which would actually help the herd quality by removing the old and weak although i'm not sure mt lions are major predators on elk, i would think wolves would be more so) I found this as a reply to a question asking "When does MDC anticipate an ELK season in Missouri?" "Missouri Dept. of Conservation: We anticipate a hunting season in about four years. Once the elk get established, we will monitor herd growth and determine a season based on that. - Joe@MDC" think this answers some questions...

Fish Are More Harmed By............
Stoneroller replied to Mitch f's topic in General Angling Discussion
i know if you remove an adult bass from the nest while there are fry on it, they are pretty much instantly decimated by the panfish that are lingering at the edge of the bass's territory. even if you are fast say 30 seconds from hookup to release, i'd be willing to bet 90% or greater of the fry on that nest are dinner. those are scientific numbers but I have witnessed swarms of fry getting vaporized while the parent was on someone's line. that issue is going to be far less with an egg scatterer with no parental input after laying, like a trout. i'm not saying that's the most damaging, just pointing out what happens. it's a zero issue for trout, huge issue for black bass.(fishery) -
from the information that MDC has made available I'd say they've provide very little, if any, evidence to prove that this animal posed a clear and present danger to the safety of any human, livestock or otherwise. simply being in proximity of an animal does not make it dangerous, nor does it justify killing the animal. 'It's coming right for us!' I agree, what's right IS right.

Shamwow comes to mind. best $10 i've ever spent. I keep 2 in my kayak at all times and 2 big ones at homes for any spills more than a paper towel could handle and some that probably could have used a shop vac. Windshield wonder. great product it's a microfiber cloth on the end of a plastic handle. does a great job of cleaning that film off the inside of your windshield, especially when it's humid out or the sun is coming through the windshield at a low angle. anyone else ever buy something 'as seen on TV' and have a good or bad experience with a product? does oxyclean actually work? or better yet the 'banjo minnow' or any other of the 'gimmick baits'? lets hear your stories.

I'll be your mt. lion tracker jd, they call me Stone "dick cheney" Roller. =D

those carbon lite rods from bass pro are by far the best rods i've ever used for jigging. i dont buy $200 rods, so i can't speak for all those overpriced ones, but the carbon lites are simply amazing. this year they have a new Carbon Black series too at $139 and $119 price points. either way I NEVER buy a rod without feeling it in my hand first. Go shake a few rods and compare them side by side. might even take your reel in with you and hang a 1/2oz weight off the end of them, see what's what.

http://mdc.mo.gov/newsroom/hunters-shoot-mountain-lion-near-macon apparently getting near enough to kill a protected species justifies it being 'dangerous'. I'd call it ironic, but frankly it's just MORONIC. hope you hunters like competing with every poacher in the states cause they are all headed here for the open season we have on wildlife thanks to the MDC lack of action and complete disregard of the laws they are supposed to be upholding. KIRKSVILLE Mo – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has confirmed that a group of hunters killed a young male mountain lion west of La Plata, Mo., on Saturday, Jan. 22. According to conservation agents investigating the incident, the group was hunting coyotes on a landowner’s farm when several came within 20 yards of the big cat. None of the hunters had dogs. Members of the group immediately contacted conservation agents to report the incident. At this time, no charges have been filed since it appears that the cougar presented enough danger to the hunters to warrant the shooting. Mountain lions are protected under the Wildlife Code of Missouri. The Code does allow the killing of any mountain lion attacking or killing livestock or domestic animals, or threatening human safety. The incident must be reported to the MDC immediately and the intact carcass, including the pelt, must be surrendered to the MDC within 24 hours. The animal weighed 128 pounds. Members of the MDC Mountain Lion Response Team will examine the animal to gather additional information, including DNA, to help determine where the big cat came from. This is the second young male mountain lion killed in Missouri this month and the fourth confirmed report of a mountain lion in Missouri since November. “These four reports bring our total number of confirmed reports over the past 16 years to just 14,” said Rex Martensen of MDC’s Mountain Lion Response Team. Martensen added that, like in this situation, it appears that mountain lions seen in Missouri are young males roaming from other states in search of territory. “Young male mountain lions go in search of new territories at about 18 months of age and during this time of year,” he explained. “To date, we have no evidence to suggest that a breeding population of mountain lions exists in Missouri.” He added that mountain lions are nocturnal, secretive and generally avoid contact with humans. Mountain lions (Puma concolor), also called cougars, panthers and pumas, were present in Missouri before pioneer settlement. The last documented Missouri mountain lion was killed in the Bootheel in 1927. The closest populations of mountain lions to Missouri are in South Dakota and a small population in northwest Nebraska. Martensen added that MDC has never stocked or released mountain lions in Missouri and has no plans to do so. To report a sighting, physical evidence or other mountain-lion incident, contact a local MDC office or conservation agent, or email the Mountain Lion Response Team at mountain.lion@mdc.mo.gov.

vanish is $10 for 250yds, although mono is typically $6 or so for the same amount. Braid around $20, although i've seen plenty of fluorocarbons in the $20 or more range, I really dont see the point in paying that much. so look for line on sale. I'm really intrigued by the new Suffix 832 line and can't wait to try it. basically a braid that sinks like fluoro and knots like braid, but it's spendy. i wouldn't use mono for crankbaits or jerkbaits, mainly because of the stretch, which along with a moderate action rod would be too much stretch/give. but if you are using an all graphite rod with a fast or xf tip, mono would be a great choice, especially for crankbaits. (i only use spinning gear btw)

Can't Get The Yak Out Fishing?
Stoneroller replied to flytyer57's topic in General Angling Discussion
i saw a yaksled video the other day on youtube. they hit something and it split the bottom of the kayak wide open. wadded up the front end too. wasted a pretty expensive rodeo kayak in the process. i'm wondering how much steerablility there would actually be... -
10# fluorocarbon. pick your poison. I like berkely vanish, it's the least expensive and i've never had issues with it. This year i'm going to try the new Suffix 832 braid. it's supposed to be the best of both braids and fluorocarbon. you definatly don't want mono line for crankbaits as mono floats. you don't really want braid for jerkbaits cause the bait can get tangled in the slack line while you are jerking it. (rarely happens to me but when it does it's a freekin mess) braid with a fluoro leader would be good. the fluoro is stiff enough to keep the jerkbait from getting wadded up with the slack line.

Mountain Lion Caught On Game Cam In St.louis Co
Stoneroller replied to Smalliebigs's topic in Conservation Issues
My apologies. I just don't want to see a hot topic like this reduced to name calling and labeling. Lets stick to the issue and not worry about making sure we have everyone placed into a convenient preconceived catagory. None of us are that one deminsional that we could be labeled in such a way. sportsmen are an odd bunch to say the least. some do lean more toward the 'eco nut' area, some lean more towards the 'carpet bomb the forests then my food will already be tenderized and cooked for me' area. But I suspect the vast majority fall somewhere between. either way Conservation should be at the top of everyone's list. How long ago was it that someone thought DDT was a great idea? Snow geese, wild turkeys, Bald eagles, all almost disappeared completely. Thankfully some econuts stepped up and educated the powers that be on the truth. Now look, we have seasons for turkey and snow geese. bald eagles are easy to find. We can learn and not everything we've done in the past, including policies and procedures have been well thought out. -

LOL "Eco Nut" here's an idea, when you have ZERO intelligent comments to add to the story, or just have zero knowledge and even less tact, just start calling people names and labling them into your convenient little catagories. Look, if you can't add anything to the debate, without instantly going to insults and name calling like some 5 year old, do us all a favor and keep your fat mouth SHUT! -
the sub zero temps we are going to have tonight will refreeze anything that tried to melt today, there will now be a layer of ICE under the snow. It will be cold enough that regular salt won't keep the crap from refreezing. Be careful.
-
I just spend an hour an a half outside shoveling a path out to the cars. you'd think living in a condo they'd be on top of that kind of thing, but no. then as I was trying to not have my first heart attack of my life, the snow plow guys finally show up and bury everything I had just cleared!

People who rely on their weapons to protect their lives would never use something as unreliable and poorly made as kel-tecs are.
-
we've got about 10 inches in St. Peters. guess i'm not running any service calls today, can't get out of the parking lot. my front bumper is pushing snow!
-
a buddy of mine had the kel-tec. it's more reliable as a thrown weapon than it is as a firearm. you'd be lucky to get one shot off, best to use that shot to get yourself an upgrade if you go with the kel-tec. Sig's design and reliability has recently become suspect in my opinion. I've fired a few new Sigs and have failed to be impressed, too many unexplained failure to feeds and not enough ingenuity. Maybe i'm spoiled but I've yet to find a pistol that outperforms or feels better than a Glock.

Little Piney Access - Run-In With Landowner
Stoneroller replied to Chris Barclay's topic in Big/Little Piney River
Little Piney River accesses as listed by the almighty MDC are yours to use. Offer to call the cops and the local conservation agent on your cell phone next time she gives you any problems. I'll be making sure to make that area a regular fishing stop this coming season, video camera and cell phone fully charged.
