  1. Nick my wifes phone is a 8mp, and those little lens are are easy to make (cheap) opposed to big camera lens. So they take really good pics.
  2. Funny, I been looking at Macro's the last few days, and ness you are spot on about the kit lens, they are ok, but the higher priced ones are much better! Just wish I had a extra 3000 or so! lol
  3. I think 6 mp to 12 mp or 14 mp will do me fine, If I was making money as a photographer, i might buy more stuff, but, the d 40 is better than i am, lol
  4. I am going out on a limb here, but, its been my experience that the longer lens gains you less, than cropping will, sooo, more mp would be better, big lens's are big money. Lot of money going from a 200mm to a 300mm to a 400mm. And you are right about the lcd not telling you much, but in a dark room, glasses and zooming in on the pic, the lcd will tell you a lot, I can see the difference between pics without going to the puter. Heres a pic 200 mm from my d40 6 mp cropped.
  5. Oh and from i read, there isn't much difference between the 3100 and the 3200 for most people. Thats not a bad price for the 3100 with two lens. And as how did I learn, with no cost for film, you can shoot thousands of photos for just the charge on the battery's. So Shoot and look at the pic, change settings, play around, you will find out how to make pics you like, thats all that counts!
  6. I'll post on this, I have read that after about 6 or 8 mp you cant tell much difference for most applications , except for big enlargements, that being said, most cameras are 14 to 24 mp now. Two lens should cover almost everything, say a 15mm to 200mm range (zoom). And the different settings make the difference between good photos and great photos, so learn that instead of shooting on Auto. Ness go ahead, you are more knowledgeable than I am on this, I am out dated, lol.
  7. What color is it ness?
  8. Al, I bet thats the reason you never see a old log cabin next to the creek. Great granddad sure was smart!
  9. UnCivE do you live in Richland? I am about 2 miles west of Richland. My gravel road was like a creek bed the last two days!
  10. I heard they had 11 gates open
  11. We got 7 inches nite before last, and 6 inches last nite ( thats 8 inches and 6 inches in my basement ) , and our gravel road washed out the worst i have seen in 40 years. My heating and cooling guy said he saw water in Waynesville , in places he had never seen in his life. Jerome set a record at 32+.
  12. Thanks for the tip on lightroom and photoshop Ness.
  13. The 18-55 and the 55-200 lens' cover most shots for most people, probably 99%. I take a lot of bird pictures, wish i had that $12,000 600mm, but that will never happen! Also i would stick with the canon or nikon lens' ,, the resale value is much greater, you wont need up grade lens' in the future. There are a couple of guys on the forums that know a lot about photography, they should have some good advice when they show up.
  14. I agree, I have always shot nikons, and the d3100 is all the camera anyone really needs, Stick with nikon or canon, you wont go wrong. I wont even get into glass, lol, I am saveing for a 10,000 dollar lens right now, I have 45.14. FYI, I saw a d3100 body only, go on ebay for 223.50. It had a shutter count of 372! That was 2 days ago. Adorama has them with the kit lens 18-55 VR for $349 refurbished right now.
  15. For every ones information, to use a hand gun, you need to fire about 5000 or 10000 rounds thru one to learn what can be done with one.
  16. Been planing on that too, I fished there in the 60s and early 70s, lots of good memory's.
  17. lee G.

  18. you been drinking terrierman, i think you are failing the field test?
  19. Trying to be funny dont cut it Terrieman
  20. I have found over the years people change their thinking about things after they have been shot, robed, assaulted, stabbed or raped, about protecting them selves.
  21. Guns? reread this line.
  22. I have no police protection here, sooo
  23. Smallie i am of the clan that believes that when someone breaks the door in on your home, you push him back out with a load of no. 4 buck, lol
  24. most people that carry guns are like Stranger, they avoid anything that smells of trouble, i know i did, I knew what shooting a person would cost me. But i had no choice, i was a LEO. So you think about it a lot, and some things you cant allow to happen, mainly harm or death to another person.
  25. On another note that has been raised, the meth heads, gang bangers, and nut cases arent going away, so what do we do when the police are there only after the fact?
