Tunnel Dam to the Lake Smallmouth fishing?
riverrat09 replied to bronzelivesmatter's topic in Niangua River
Smallies are in that stetch but Lake Niangua/Tunnel Dam causes the Smallmouth fishing downstream to be not as good as the fishing upstream of the lake. -
A New River Virginia Fish Story
riverrat09 replied to Greasy B's topic in U.S.A. - North & East Regions
The New River would be a pretty cool place to fish. Especially with all of the amazing scenery. I'd like to fish for the muskies in there some day. -
Nice report, sounds like fun.. Good luck, persistence pays of with them musky.

Those are some nice looking fish!!

Don't underestimate fishing with blue bird skies. Plenty of good fish have been caught in those conditions. I know i've experienced luck under the blue bird skies.

Love the whale pics.

I've seen one Blue Sucker before, we caught it in a trammel net out of the Missouri River. We released him, knowing they were uncommon.... Congrats on your awesome catch.

Good report.. Those are some nice fish.

You're taking what I said out of context. I said that the 2 that were shot were not endangering the people and I don't believe it was justifiable to kill them (In other words I said they broke the law which I fell is absolutely wrong and they should be punished for it). What I meant by saying that they shouldn't do anything to people for killing one. Is that I think it should be legal to kill one (also I would still make them report the kill and turn the carcass, fur, parts etc... over to MDC.) Missouri doesn't have a recognizable population of them and my opinion is that we don't really need them. I don't think there's any right or wrong as far as rather a person thinks we should have them here or not. While I don't think we need them, it wouldn't bother me if we had them either. And honestly if I see one, I'm not going to shoot it and don't have any plans on shooting one. They're really a pretty fascinating animal.

My feelings with the mountain lions are that most people have a huge misconception on the animal they actually are. They aren't the dangerous people killer that people seem to think they are. And I don't see how the 2 lions that were killed recently were putting any one in enough "danger" to justify killing them. But with that being said. I don't really feel that Missouri needs to have any mountain lions. And I don't think they should do anything to people that kill them.

Fish Are More Harmed By............
riverrat09 replied to Mitch f's topic in General Angling Discussion
I'd say #5 & 6 are about the same and have the most potential to harm the fish. -
BOOOOOOO BOOOOOOO BOOOOO MIZZOU

He sure looked like it. What I liked about the game was that the Chiefs were still in the game in the 4th quarter. Our D was great. The O however looked ugly, but the Colts looked pretty ugly to.

3-0... They are for real, we'll have to see if they can survive Indy and then the Texans. after that the easy schedule should make for some smooth sailing.

If the lines are visible people will cut them out of spite, as well as run them. And remember guys even if you dont agree with it,it is illegal to tamper with someones lines. And yes I agree some of the guys with lines out there are just idiots.

We kept the anchors. We also caught a sock. Dont worry guys, the sock was released immediately and unharmed. To be caught again.lol

Tried my luck on Pomme fishing for musky this past weekend. Only the second time i've fished the lake having fished it this past labor day for the first time catching one small musky 25 inches and my dad caught a 35 1/2 incher. October 1st - we fished the last couple hours of daylight producing 2 follows, both small fish. In real shallow water. October 2nd - Fished all day, I had one strike that i couldn't get hooked. My dad had a small fish on about 30 inches that we lost at the boat. He also had a small one follow. Another person in our boat had a strike from a musky that he wasn't able to hook up with either. The fish we saw on Saturday were all very shallow as well. While the weekends fishing was slow, can't really complain about 3 strikes in one day (them muskie are tough to hook sometime). Overall had a good time. I did manage to catch a Largemouth that measured just over 19 inches (poor thing was really skinny and sickly). One suprise to our day included two nice catches of something i had never caught before. Both me and my cousin boated a boat anchor. I'd never seen that happen before, and better yet 2 in one day.

Sounds like you had some pretty good success.

Never seen one of them before, but i'd sure like to put a hook in his mouth

Fall and Spring are the best times to catch muskie around here. This mainly has to do with them being in shallower water during those time of the years. As the water warms they will move deeper to find cool water since water temps near the surface are to high for them to tolerate around here in the summer. They seek out the cool water near the thermocline. While they can still be caught during the summer it is HIGHLY discouraged to fish for muskie after the water temps reach 80. Water temps this high cause a very high mortality rate on caught fish (even the ones that still swim off and look fine)
-
The statistics i've seen for the most part show that at Pomme the amount of hours spent fishing to catch a muskie are alot lower then the average in other states such as Minn. and Wi. as well as being lower then many other big name lakes. However right now the size of the muskie you catch in Pomme generally aren't going to average as big as many of these other places.
-
I'm not for sure how many fish they stocked the past couple of years, but i know they are still stocking. The MDC website has records of all the muskie stocked in missouri up to 2006. In 2006 they stocked 7,500 in Pomme De Terre.

They'll be safe to eat. just like buzz said we've been eating GMO's (genetically modified Organisms) for awhile now. I feel that it's just a matter of rather or not we feel that scientist should be allowed to modify the genes of these animals.

Does anybody know the results of the muskie tournament that took place last weekend.
