  1. I would say that about any predatory fish will at times be cannabilistic. Some are just more so than others. Though I cannot ever recall having found a small walleye in the belly of an adult.
  2. But I would have to leave where I was fishing, then drive to the store and buy some fish. When I was just catching hem a little while ago. How would that be more economical. Nobody buys a boat and fishes because it's more economical than buying food. Heck I would be way better off selling my boat and all my gear, getting another job and buying fish sticks on the way home. But economical isn't what it's about for any of us.
  3. I have eaten and will likely eat some more bass. Certainly not my favorite but since there is certainly not a shortage of just keeper size I don't feel bad at all for it. If I am hungry for fresh fish and bass are what is cooperating well they get invited to dinner, with the exception of creek fish, I seldom ever keep them unless it's all I can get on a float for supper. I love bluegill and now that my kids are grown and grandson isn't big enough I may take my wife and hit them a time or two this year. I fillet them just like anything else, with my electric fillet knife, it has a fairly narrow blade and yes they are are bit of a pain to fillet, but oh my are they tasty.
  4. I say face your fears and watch it! Then post up.
  5. Too bad, I have seen it before and it is an awesome video. But yeah it might give Vernon nightmares.

  7. while I am not allergic to their sting, paper wasps and them dang red hornets are probably my most hated living thing on the planet. I have never seen anything with as bad an attitude as them things. Oddly enough one of my biggest phobias is drowning. For a guy who grew up wading small muddy creeks, and likes to canoe and fish it seems a bad one to have. Though I am pretty careful and haven't drowned yet. Helping recover a few drowning victims certainly didn't help that fear any either.
  8. Sounds like you should be scared of .44 mags. I understand I have friends and family who are violently opposed to anything snake. Will raise their feet from the floorboard of the car as it runs over a snake sort of opposed. An I actually had a county deputy threaten to shoot me one time when I walked toward him with a black snake wrapped around my arm, since his hard was on his pistol and from the tone of his voice I didn't doubt his resolve and went to turn the snake loose. Good Times.
  9. While you are correct that he federal does not pay tax on land it owns within a state it is not a write off. The federal government pay a PILT, Payment in Lieu of Taxes. You can look it up on a website easily, believe it breaks it down by county within a state. Also when the Feds run and area it is not run to make a profit, if that were the case many more areas would be closed, although the noose is tightening down on how unprofitable it can be. Simply put a private concern or even the States will want to run it at a profit or in the case of the state at least break even. One of my concerns with the new National Parks and reserves designated uner President Obama, how will the extra expense be covered? I don't expect the NPS getting extra funding and they have a huge backlog of items that need repaired or replaced. The biggest problem on the financing end is how the federal government budgets but that is too lengthy on a dying phone!
  10. Sorry Vernon, I admit I promptly Googled "Snake in boat" photos for you. I did have a big ole black snake crawl up onto the back deck of my old boat, about 4 feet from my wife. I was very calm in pointing it out to her, she said Cool. I moved close to the bank and he crawled off and swam on. I promise no more snake picssssssssss.
  11. Ya big sissy Vernon, I like to give them rides so they don't get tired swimming.
  12. Nice, I wanted to reach down and grab it for bait. Great more lures I have to buy.
  13. It's because them suckers have a collection of my Shad Raps and they get together and compare colors. As near as I can tell the secret to catching (or in my case just hooking them) is to not fish for them, fish for bass, walleye etc. They know it and will come for your lure, at least it seems that way some times.
  14. Nice. I would love to see some video of the craw in the water, shallow to see it move and or even some underwater video of it.
  15. A can of catfood with holes punched it it does well, as does fish carcasses.
  16. Otters love those live boxes folks put on their docks, they think it is a buffet. If you saw a very small, one it could have been a mink, but you will know if the otters are around and like your dock by the piles of poop. They are normally pretty shy, but they do get used to people and activity. There are some inventive trap types for them, that use a live fish for bait in the middle of a 4 foot long or so wire mesh cage with a big connibear set in each end.
  17. If those piles of poop have scales in them it's otters.
  18. There have been some good ones come out of LOZ, right below Truman as well, and a few nice ones from Truman lake. I think about every lake that has had walleye for several years will have some nice ones, its the number of them and how likely an angler is to catch them that is the difference. I may have had some on, but I normally fish with fairly light equipment and never saw or knew for sure what it was. Also at least one that I KNEW was a monster, turned out to be a heck of a nice Largemouth bass at Stockton, was never so disappointed in my life to see that dang thing roll up in my head light.
  19. Couple of nice "Rapala killers".
  20. Well I haven't red pushing them together before pulling it tight, guess that can be next.
  21. Excellent, I haven't gigged anything in a few years, but always enjoyed it and the comraderie that went with some of he trips.
  22. Son of a gun, that knot dI'd exactly the same thing the Albright knot did, looked great right up until it snuggled tight, then with a little extra pressure, pop it went too. I simply can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Knot looks perfect, snugs up and then breaks the Nanofil right at the knot, knot and mono are fine and the Nanofil looks like it was cut with a knife. Aggraving. Thught maybe the line was bad, even hough it is only a year or two old, compared to the 5 plus yr old 6# on the other rod that ties fine. So I tied it back direct to a jig and can hardly get it to break. Maybe I am not destined to run mono leader on my Nanofil.
  23. I do it exactly like the videos showed, wrapping the Nanofil around the mono, really irritates me that it works for everyone else but I can't get it to.
  24. OK I am gonna give that one a try. I tried half a dozen times overy the weekend with the Albright on my 6lb Nanofil and 6 lb P-line leader, broken the Nanofil at the knot every time just as it got good and tight. Will see how this one works. BTW, the Albright seems to work fine on my 8lb Nanofil.
  25. Feral or what appear to be half feral humans freak me out way more than any 4 legged critters.
