  1. I only go to Table Rock when the summer traffic gets bad. Stuart, that one line right there made me chuckle.

    What's Cooking?

Hmm, I had to make do with a big crock pot full of chicken enchiladas, one of my favorites. Unfortunately my son took the large amount of leftovers back with him so he and his 2 room mates could eat them. So lunch today was a good old fashioned grilled hot dog and Mac n cheese. We have fewer leftovers around now that my son is in college, apparently we are now feeding 3 teenage boys instead of iust one.
  3. Looks like 863.48 on the USGS site. 867.0 is "normal" I believe. So yeah about 3.5 feet low would be right if the usgs site is correct.
  4. Awesome. Like I said I haven't heard any reports recently from the upper end but Later in the fall those docks can be solid gold for crappie. Fishing straight down along the dock, 1/32 Oz jig head and your favorite color. I would expect to catch some short crappie at the very least. They might not fill a skillet for supper, but if your husband is mobility impaired it sure can turn a grumpy feller who is trapped inside unable to do much into a happy guy on a nice fall day. Good luck.
  5. Active jugs simply avoid them just as if it were somebody fishing from a boat, no big deal. If you snag one, just unhook from it and toss it back. Really its not a big deal. Limb lines, jug line, trotlines, etc. All perfectly legal methods of fishing, just respect those who do it and expect them to respect your way of fishing.

    What's Cooking?

    Certainly sounds interesting.
  7. High speed rail and earthquakes seem an odd combination in one post. Seems like an earthquake would play heck with a high speed train.
  8. Fang Zarraspook, that is some excellent dorections. Better than mine, I don't get there from the south.
  9. You can go north on 83 hwy and then take PP east to RB and north again to. You will come to a Y intersetion, take the left and follow it down to the docks. Or you go north on D hwy, to a paved county road, 2 hich I can't remember the number of, but 64 hwy goes east there and you would go west to RB, and then north. Just comes into RB from the other side.
  10. What do you want to fish for. There are a couple of accessible fishing docks at the bolivar landing area on Pomme. Haven't heard and reports from that area for a while though.
  11. I must be related to Donna, I have slept through tornados and some pretty good storms. Well I did before we had a border collie that is terrified of storms. If it shook anything at my house I must have missed it. Small frequent quakes don't really worry me much, now the idea that a big one in OK, might trigger a big one in the New Madrid fault area etc etc. That is more concerning. But there ain't nothing I can do about it so I guess I will just go on with life as long as the Good Lord let's me.
  12. Up front I am not a tournament guy. I assume there was a "dead penalty" for non surviving fish. I would also guess that somewhere nearby in shell know is someone who likes fish, even bass, to eat. Surely one of the guys in the tournament could be responsible for collecting any fish that don't make it, and icing them down to deliver to someone to eat, or even filleting them for those folks.

I will neither confirm nor deny that the wall has the words, "Jolly Mill 1848" in it.

If you blow the pic up, you might be able to read it on the wall behind the feast.

    What's Cooking?

Johnsfolly, its a secret location, not far from a friends house, I am afraid I would be lynched if I revealed it.
  16. We usually find them up the river while crappie fishing. On the main lake look for a bank that the wind is blowing into.

    What's Cooking?

Well our annual dove opener blast and eat is over. Sorry no pics of the lunch feast. Bacon wrapped dove breasts with a slice of jalapeƱo in the middle, grilled fast and hot, cream cheese stuffed mushroons, large jalapenos split and seeded, cream cheese & brown sugar then wrapped in bacon, potatoes salad, and baked beans. We nearly ate ourselves into a stupor. Afternoon dove hunt nearby, but since I had already limited out this morningI stayed to bait and run crawdad traps (with dove the carcasses for bait). And may have had a nap or two. Our traditional supper is a ctawfish boil, with taters, corn, andouille sausage chunks, and a bag of frog legs. Absolutely gorgeous day, lots of shooting, way too much food, good friends, and my 18 yr old college boy son (all 2 weeks of his college career). Since my wife and oncologist prohibited me from going last year this was even more special.
  18. If this October is like last year, up the river the whites will be thick and voracious. Hopefully a little bigger than last year too.
  19. Sounds like Alps. Located in Pittsburg Mo. About 4 miles maybe from Nemo Park. Don't know the fish fry mix though.
  20. Alright ladies and gents, tomorrow is the dove opener, where we get up way to early, and try to shoot some doves. Be safe, have fun, be respectful and coueteous, and enjoy the hunt.
  21. Nitroman, I finally was smart enough to look at your profile (and signature line) and saw the Rock Lane Resort, I used to be down in that area occasionally when I worked there. I have no doubt that owning and operating a resort on TR or any lake that fluctuates is a difficult and often non-profitable business. Lake Levels, storm, wake damage etc. are all going to take a toll for sure. We could easily talk for a long time on the regs and requirements on Public Lands, but we would both tire of it quickly. The lunch offer is still open any time, and unless you pick a place that plays rap music (good luck finding one of those in Hickory County), I hope you have had a good summer this year and a busy holiday weekend coming up.
  22. You gotta wonder how some of those folks don't knock off their lower units. Seems like some think if it is water it is deep enough to run in.
  23. Nitroman, I am not trying to convince you of anything. Expert on Table Rock, nope, did work there for the COE so am quite familiar with it. I am merely trying to provide you information on how some things work. I am curious did you have a house on TR that got flooded? My family doctor (who recently retired) owned a house on Taneycomo and we had several conversations on water levels, releases, flood control etc. And I am sure that the businesses on Bull Shoals and Beaver might disagree with your sentiments on how they get preference over Table Rock when it comes to flood control, every time there is high water there they say it's to protect TR. You are certainly welcome to come up to Pomme and become an expert on anything you might wish to. I will even buy you lunch and we can cuss some of the things the COE does together. Here on OA I am not a representative of the COE, just a guy who likes to fish, but I do try to provide information from a different viewpoint.
  24. Nitroman, Branson is still there, if not for TR and "flood control" it likely would not be. You also mistake the concept of flood control for the total control of a natural environment. That ain't gonna happen. I hear the refrain a lot about how the COE flooded the lake, well that is exactly what it is supposed to do, a dam doesn't protect the property upstream of it. How many heavy rains and possible flood events has TR stopped cold that would have caused major damage in Branson, those sudden raises of say 8 feet or so that nobody remembers or thinks twice about.
