  1. Has anyone stayed at Three Springs RV Park and Campground? If so what did you think. I'm looking for a campground in the Rolla area to hit the blue ribbon streams. I'm not overly picky. Need power, prefer water, and it has to be clean with a nice shower facility.
  2. Wow...I thought I was the only one that ate up. Between you and the trout commander...I need to find a job in Springfield. I'm just to far away from the "good stuff". Anyone need an experienced project manager. Thanks again to all.
  3. "She" is learning. She does alright in the yard, but still is trying to figure out what to do on the water. She is still trying to learn what to do with the slack line that happens as fly and line come back at her. I'm thinking about getting her in a class this spring. Like most kids she takes direction from others better then from me. Plus I'm just learning myself. I will tell you this...its worth the wait.
  4. You know after 15 years as a project manager you would think I would learn not to use electronic media when you are upset. Specially, when you are stuck in the house with a sinus infection. So first, thanks for all the positive posts...I guess there was a silent majority I didn't know about. Second, apologies for the soapbox. However, I've learned there is a fisherman's etiquette here that I just didn't know about...I promise from here on out not to talk about specific holes on the blue ribbon areas. Trout parks are OK right? Can't wait to fish the Blue Pipe Hole. And no, I'm not proving a point. Those riffles were one of my favorite spots. Trout Commander..Sounds great I'll send you a PM. Is that little man in the pic old enough to go? Mine is eight. Flyfinger...I was at Osan at the exact same time 98-99. I was with the 303 Intel Squadron...go Scivy Nine.
  5. Do you happen know what camping services are available (showers, power, water, pads, etc)?
  6. I've been stewing for a couple of hours now...so here is my soapbox. I found this forum a few months back. I was pretty excited because I'm a project manager on seven figure projects with a lot of stress. This is where I can get a way for couple of minutes a few times a day when I need a break. I thought this forum was supposed to be where one reports on fishing trips. Apparently, only if you fish bigger waters or on some special list. First, I was given a load for calling out a specific hole at BSC. Then, the load was for posting to many reports. Well here you go...not one word about how much fun I had, how my kid is learning to love the outdoors, or how much money I spent in the great state of MO. I served my country for over 20 years, through four wars and a year away from my family in Korea. I've earned my right to free speech discussing fishing trips on a fishing forum. So I can, now I just don't want to...'just saying.
  7. i respectfully disagree. I fish and I post. I fish Blue Springs because it is the closest. But...don't worry, I'll be expanding my horizons once spring arrives. I will get the trailer out for weekends which expands my radius. One day I hope to fish every blue stream in the state. Most fisherman I know don't like to fish water where the average hole/chute is 4 foot by 6 foot, holes are covered in all kinds of thickets, the average fish is five inches or less, the average distance between holes is 50 to 100 yards, holes will shut down at the least little shadow, and one can go down the road a little to Little Piney and/or Mermac. If you read the reports, this is the first time I've caught more than a few fish. I'm not worried about it being overrun by a swarm of fisherman.
  8. Do you have a pic?
  9. I'm looking for a dry fly that: 1. Easy to tie 2. Floats well 3. Can be used to drop all types of nymphs off of The primary purpose of the fly is to serve as an indicator on small stream fishing. It doesn't need to imitate anything and a simulator would be preferred.
  10. I just can't find an indicator that I like for small stream fishing. I think I'm going to stick with dropping nymphs off a dry. Is there a quick way to tie on a dropper. Now I'm tying an improved clinch knot on a safety pin without tightening it down. I then transfer it to the primary fly. It works ok but is not very efficient. If I'm going to make the switch, I would like to find a way for quick changes.
  11. What size and type of hook did you tie it on?
  12. There wasn't one. I brought in fish from every hole...even holes I haven't had any luck in before. More of a catching day versus fishing.
  13. Well, Made it down to the Blue Springs this morning and had my best day on the creek. I brought over 20 to hand to include a couple of nice 6 to 8 inchers. I also lost a hog. It had the pole doubled over. I had it out of the hole twice, and it shot back in each time. The big guy finally got me into the rocks and split my line. There wasn't a hatch to speak of so nymphs were the call, but I caught at least one on everything I tried. Brassies were the best overall. I ran into another guy, and he had brought over twenty also. Just a great day.
  14. Does the Little Piney flow north or south?
  15. Welcome...don't forget your reports. It gets some of us through the work week.
  16. I focused on military items and started a hobby business making flag cases and shadow boxes. Unfortunately, I got burned out and didn't touch it for over a year. I'm starting to get back into it. I just finished a box for a friend. It was paduka top over a walnut box. It came out pretty good. I already have a list from family.
  17. I'm struggling with the same issues. I'll try these out. Thanks for the review.
  18. PS...If this was really your wife's idea, can you please have her call mine.
  19. Contact Jason at Orvis Adventures at 800-547-4322. His primary focus is on international, but if ask you him, he will help you out with stateside stuff. He can hook you up with ranches, guides, or both. He helped me with my trip to Yellowstone.
  20. Lesson learned...take snacks and drinks. My little one runs out of fuel with all the walking and is rushing to leave so she can eat. Next trip will include Pop Tarts and Drinks.
  21. Here is a hatch chart that I reference. It is not specific for Bennett, but should provide you good estimates. www.family-outdoors.com/Ozark-Trout-Fishing.html
  22. I'm new to the Ozark fishing area...what is a pickerel? Is it a type of bass?
  23. I've been in the IT field now for 18 years. If she is open...tell her to focus on IT security. That is where the money and jobs will be for a while. Good luck.
  24. I made the trip with from STL to Bourbon today with my wife and 8 yr old daughter. We made it from Hwy N to the falls at the top of the park. I only hooked two with one to hand, but the focus was on the daughter learning how to use the fly rod and we were rushing a little. The only sad part was that the one I brought in was without her in front of me "helping". We did get some great video though. However, some news to report. There was a trico hatch...a pretty good one. I thought I saw one caddis dancing across the creek and the trout were jumping like they were chasing caddis rising, but think it is to early in the year for that...any biologist out there? I did flip over a dozen rocks along the way. If you want to "match the hatch", go small. I didn't see a single mayfly nymph over a size 20. There were dozens and dozens of them, but all were really small. The tricos were a size 26 or 28. The two I got were on a size 20 griffins gnat. Finally, as we were leaving the water was starting to cloud up with water run off. So hopefully, the creek will go up a little. Overall, a great quick trip. See ya next time on the water.
  25. Well thats just cheating. You have it made. Use the different vises they have out for showing customers how to tie. I would agree with the comment on the kits. Thats why I like the one from Cabala's. It only has the supplies you need for the flies tied in the video.
