  1. Flysmallie... just to confirm you do not one in on this swap, but do want in on a future smallmouth swap.
  2. So now we are at ten flies. Anyone else like to join. MIC - Midge's Wet Dream Lancer09 - Hoppers DaddyO - Hair and Copper Nick Williams - A$$ Kicker Mike H - TBD Jtram - Chub Killer Buzz - Half A$$ Scud Kayser - TBD Ness - TBD
  3. Only if you play nice... Let me know which one you decide on.
  4. This may be stupid to some of you, but one of my bucket list items is to hunt rabbit with dogs. I might enjoy fox also, but I'm a softy for foxes. I think I would really enjoy the interaction, the sounds, etc, etc. My dad has a nerve condition that makes it impossible to handle a firearm, and my grandpa quit hunting after 5 invasions in the Pacific during WWII (he had "done enough killing"). So I only hunted small game with my friends, and I really enjoyed it. I don't hunt anymore, mainly because I don't have a great place to go in IL and MO out of state license is to expensive for rabbit and squirrel. I loved hunting birds with dogs, so I would assume the same would apply for rabbits.
  5. Hey everybody... I'm thinking we should tie two flies for Phil's test team in case they lose one on the preverbal first cast. Does anyone have a problem with 9 flies (assuming we don't get a last minute add)?
  6. Well sort of. Technically you only need 8 unless you want to tie one for yourself. However, I'm wondering out loud if we should tie two for Phil. Who's Reading What?

I need a good trout or fly book. Any recommendations.
  8. I loved rabbit hunting back in Kansas when I was a kid. They were pretty safe with me shooting though. LOL
  9. Ok Team... time to finalize your selections. ALL OTHERS... Anyone else like to join? Hello all... the cold of winter is kicking in and hopefully will allow time for some fly tying. This year's theme is a trout fly that you designed and named. The total fly count will be based on number of tiers to include you (tiers - two each for 6 or less tiers...or...one each for seven or more...plus one additional fly). We will keep the window open until end of Jan with flies due end of Feb. So I'm going to try something new this year for fun. If Phil is ok with it and can support... I'm going to send one set of two of each fly to him. Hopefully, Phil and his staff will try them out and declare the best overall fly. My general rules: Don't ship until the shipping dates (First week in Mar) Be on time, but things happen. Communicate issues. Ship with a fully funded return envelope/box or six dollars Put a name tag on each fly. This helps me keep them all straight.

  11. Man... I just can not please you. LOL
  12. I need to add. All the fish were my partners.
  13. So, on purpose this time, NHarris and I fished my favorite blue ribbon creek together. Last time under similar conditions, we tore them up on big dries so this time I planned on the same and wanted to try out some of my "Simple Flies" documented in the fly tying forum. So I started with big and dry, and NHarris started with small and shiny (Pimrose Midge). Turns out small, shiny, and deep was the trick, but I wanted to try so many things it took me a while to find something that worked, a size 18 hare's ear with a flashback and size six lead. My caddis dry did get popped more than a few times, but I couldn't stick them. I think they might actually have been last minute refusals. I did catch the biggest chub I've ever caught... probably 10 inches long on my simple stone. NHarris caught his biggest fish from this creek a good 12"... IMO a trophy on this creek. So fishing with a partner on a small creek... you lose some water, but you learn a lot and walk less. In the end, I brought three to had and lost a few more. Still better then work in my cubical.

  15. Here is a hog I caught and a pic of the fly. I think it was on a size eight streamer hook.
  16. Hum... that's sounds interesting. Can't wait to see that one. Updated MIC - Midge's Wet Dream Lancer09 - Hoppers DaddyO - Hair and Copper Nick Williams - TBD Mike H - TBD Jtram - TBD Buzz - Half A$$ Scud Kayser - TBD

  18. Works on pond bass, don't know about lake bass, but try an "over sized nymph". Tie a standard flashback or prince on a size 6 or 8 hook and let it sink in fishy spots. Plus, you can catch some pig catfish that way also.
  19. AWESOME... I thought it was just me. "Hello, my name is Mike..."
  20. Nice. How the action on the glass rod.
  21. Nope... Don't forget all flies have to have a personnel touch.
  22. Hey mic, I would love to do so. I have no plans on going anywhere and I'm going to fish as long as I am able. If we don't manage to make it happen this year, we can keep trying. The years seem to fly by and I struggle to stay on task at times. The rest of my life gets in the way of my fishing a lot. Then again... you are in some pretty sweet water down there in Mountain Home. Maybe I should just come to your place, LOL. Yea, my winter has revolved around eight grade Girls Pom/Dance. Hell, I just went to high school orientation with her two nights ago. Drivers ed in a year. Where does it all go.
  23. Ham... I liked to join you sometime if we can ever meet in the middle. Good luck.
  24. Want to fish the driftless region of Wisconsin... anyone want to go? Learn how to fish out of my new Kayak (which just came in; going to get it this weekend).
  25. I like prince nymph's but I never thought of them as a stonefly pattern. Do you? If yes, what size do you tie?
