Bank fishing

For me their are two extremes when fishing around the ozarks . Its hot in the summer and its mostly about the bass. Then when its cold its mostly about the trout not to say I didn't fish trout in the summer and don't catch bass when its cold. But right now its the trouts time to shine . I still am amazed at streams I would pass up time after time because they looked empty. I stared off throwing rooster tails and caught 2 trout one 15 inches one 17 very fat. Then after a few misses and nips I switched to power bait eggs. I am not always for using powerbait. The general consensuses is that it catches mostly smaller trout and they gut hook you either cut the line or hurt the trout . This story is not the same using powerbait eggs one sunrise and one chartreuse. I landed a trout of about 16 inches and he was lip hooked like a bass. After releasing him unharmed I smashed the barb on the hook.I caught lots of trout after that some big some small. Now it was like the bass fishing in the summer months set the hook after the strike bam fish. Let me tell you if you know how to play a fish and your quick enough to put a bend in the rod smashed barbs are the way to go. I am catch and release only and I felt terrible hurting a fish when I wanted to let it go. For me its great landing a nice bass or trout and with my bare fingers with almost no resistance pulling the hook out no blood no fuss. All and all I had a great day fishing .

Wind was hard and the air was cold I cleaned up a lot of trash along the creek . Fishing was great when I got around to it . I all ways fish power bait eggs but lately they seem really pickey about seeing the hook. I added extra eggs to hide the hook they hit it more often . I never do the dough but I am going to try it when I get a chance I caught 4 nice trout the biggest one being a fat 16 inch male.

It was fun I fish not that far up the creek . I am going back tomorrow and I am planing on doing a little clean up beer cans and other trash. Its private property owned by yacht club . Some worthless piece of trash left 3 large truck tires down their anyone know where I can take those to get rid of them?

Went out yesterday 11/24 to turkey creek again. I threw night crawlers got very little action I could see trout all over they didn't want to take worms. Rooster tails got some quick taps but no hook ups. I then went to powerbait eggs. I used bright green and sunrise mixed on a hook. They seem to like the smaller hooks caught one after another it was not boring sit and wait fishing. Just about as soon I could prop the pole up it was moving. One trout of about 15 inches jumped after hitting the power bait that was fun. Caught too many trout to count had a blast.

Its funny i know the creek so well their are parts that are a foot deep and it looks like its a foot deep to the other shore but its not. Their is alot of optical illusions with that creek especially when the water isn't clear. Even when it is clear it looks like nothing. I know the contours of part of the creek really well. Its funny with the super low water parts that even at normal water level look like you could walk across are actually deep. You walk up see no fish then u think their is nothing here at all. Then u cast and boom fish. It also interesting how it switch from a trout fishing spot to a bass and sunfish fishing spot.It depends on the season and water temps. I was neat to see oct-march trout and march thought sept bass and panfish now ts switching to trout again its a neat eco system. And the the transition period were u could catch anything.Another thing I found interesting is that in the spring and summer the bass have wised up to worms every joe blow goes down their with worms the bass wont touch them i threw a worm on 2lb clear test by a school of nice bass don't want it at all I see every one else their with worm catching sunfish but no bass i switch to a swimmin minnow they hit it like a bad habit.

I went their when I was at st louis community college to float for class credit it was great. We were bussed up the stream to float back down had a blast didn't get to fish but it was loads of fun! I have some stories of rule breaking that we did during the float we won't talk about that here but my professor was great he taught us a whole lot about steam navigation. He was a great guy if only I could remember his name. That was one of the most fun things I have ever done!We did the cave tour and being 6'4 it wasn't bad at all. It's not to far from st louis I highly recommend it! -
I have fished ultra light fishing gear for a while now I bought all sorts of reels in pursuit of a better reeling, casting and better drag on a spinning reel. Disappointed with lack luster performance last may my birthday came around and my wife asked me what do u want I said get me that pflueger reel. It was 29 bucks at walmart feeling kinda like a cheap date I didn't expect that much . Whoa was I surprised its great casting and drag . The sure click bail was great as well. I thought to my self well lets see how it holds up. After dunking 3-4 times in the 100+ degree weather it felt like a pencil sharpener I thought oh great Its done for .I took it apart only to discover nice internal parts but the grease had run out re greased it and bam good as new. The clutch system allows for more hooks sets. I let people try it its so smooth then I tell them its $30 they are blown away. When I was a kid I cut lots of grass to save up buy a used stratus reel this is way better and less then 1/2 the price. Next time your at bass pro turn the handle on the demo you'll be surprised for $30 bucks what you can get.I know there are probably much better reels for much more money but for $30 bucks this is the best in my book. On a side note I had a med action trion combo stolen from me when I visited rockaway beach I used it once it was nice as well not sure who stole it. I think it might of been my father in law if hes reading this and he took it then hes a pos!

Fishing lately on lower taney has been hit or miss. One day I go out its great another not so much. I have been hitting turkey creek 2-3 times a week walking up and down sight fishing for rainbows . I see 20 inch plus rainbows one day nothing the next. My advise if you see big rainbows throw a live worn on 4lb test or even 2lb test the trout will hit it in a heart beat. They seem turned off by powerbait and spinners right now this can all change on a mins notice these days(the temps have gone up and down). I went out one day before work tons of big trout caught one after another got all excited. So the next day I took my wife out to a nice lunch convinced her to shoot video for me I had all the gear everything set up the fish were gone. I ended up catching a few small rainbows after I told her to forget it . So I will try again. Lol just when you think you have it all setup oh well anyways good luck and good fishing.

Anyone know what the water levels will be like thought the winter this has been crazy lately
-
I am a big fan of the ulgy stiks I use the ultra light they don't break like other ultra lights I even rolled them up in the car window on accident. That rod looks like a great alternative to using ice poles while floating. I have broken the tips on my ulgy sticks. I used the wallmart $3 tip repair and I am good to go.

When will they be done with the work at powersite?
-
As colder weather rolls in the trout move up in to the creeks were as bass and pan fish move out to main lake areas. I have been fishing turkey creek for the last few weeks with great success. The water was super low due to the work on powersite dam. The trout are biting big time.Rooster Tails in yellow and brown produced fish well. But it was a plain old live trout worm on a number 8 or so hook that produced an 18 inch fat rainbow. Alot of fun be sure to use light line I use 4Lb. I had a blast caught tons of fish. I parked under the bridge at turkey creek junction and walked down toward taney as far as one can. Its also great wading levels. When you first pull up to the creek it looks empty but its far from it.

Also be warned some times there are hobos and tweakers down there lol.As of thurs there were some shady people living in a tent down there. I had one guy down there tweeking tell me I was with the fbi and he wanted his lawyer present before he would talk to me.

As far as the rooster tails white, green and orange. I switch colors when the fish lose interest seems to work great.

They should be game fish everywhere people rip on all gar every where . They look scary so people think they should kill them . People love caching pike or muskie why should gar be any different. I think they are great they are a natural species why can't people understand they important like any other fish. I think the alligator gar populations are way down but long nose gar are up in population. I saw a spawn in swan creek forsyth mo in 2009 that was amazing. It rivaled salmon spawns in Alaska. The creek was thick with them I mean it was so full of gar it was crazy I took two steps in and they all went back a few feet they are harmless . My wife landed one on an ultra light about 3 feet long on a blue gill what a blast!!

I went to the dam very early on Thursday 10/6 had ok luck on rooster tails on ultra light spinning rod. I then went to a creek that feeds taneycomo and had crazy good luck wading with rooster tails fall come early for sure . I landed more fish there it was a blast I highly recommend smashing the barbs did not hurt a single fish hurt. The best rooster tail trout fishing I have ever had I caught 15 rainbows(in two hours) between 8-16 inches very fat and strong on 4lb test. My ultra light rod and pflueger reel were flawless even with el cheapo wallmart 4lb test line . It was lots o fun!!

One day I saw trout hitting like crazy and kids were standing there they were afraid. I said what are you doing the girl said I kept pellets from the tour I said watch this I threw in and I landed a 17 in rainbow in about 2 seconds . They were shocked I wasn't mad at them I said thank you. LOL

I understand there is a lower taneycomo section but no one reads it. I went down to empire park today to trout fish. There is a ton of nasty crap floating in the lake it looks nasty. I set up 2 power bait rigs I fish up by table rock dam but my wife come with me and she likes the powerbait action as do I after being stressed out at work for far to long. I set up two power bait rigs . I have a rod set up with 2 lb line so I throw a white rooster tail for trout .And then then bam out of the blue on the drop the reel screams taking line monster fish rod bent in half omg it gets off . I get another hit and get it to the dock and guess what its a bass large mouth about 12 inches . I cast again and bang another fish feels ok not nearly as big as the monster its a bass on 2lb test its great land it. It turns out to be a 3lb bass fat as can be. So how big was the first one if the 3lb felt like a baby . I mean this was great i lost a bunch of other bass the hook would stay in the drag didn't seem to let me set the hook. I had a great time go to the cove in empire park for bass they were jumping like crazy.
