  1. Glad too see you stopped by our neck of the woods I am from Webster Groves I have been down around branson for 2.5 years. Let me tell you the fishing is great I am a spinning rod fishermen ultra light is my fav. The spiderwire 4lb line breaks around 6 pounds so don't be afraid to use it i have had alot of luck with rooster tails below table rock dam come fish wish us again sometime you wont be disappointed. If you want to private message me I can help you more with the fishing spots and lures and all
  2. Well I feel like if I harm as little fish as I can why not keep fishing. It may sound selfish but hey I pay for my permit and I pay for my stamp I want to catch fish if you feel so guilty don't fish at all . Sometimes I accidentally kill a trout gill hooked or what ever i always try my best to save and revive the fish. But if it dies then oh well i fish taneycomo and trout are not native . I fish catch and let go some times they die but they add more all the time just so that we can catch them. So I don't wanna be rude but its like cows they aren't native to the us we put them here so that we can kill them and eat them. Like I said if your such a purest don't fish don't drive a gas burning car and don't eat meat. We only live once we should enjoy our lives before we die.Don't punish yourself its like life without sex.
  3. I was throwing a white 1/16 ounce marabou jig with a float on taneycomo after the flood in outlet one when i had a 4-5 pound large mouth hit it in the thick of the outlet 1 mess of rainbow trout waiting for pellet wash.
  4. I have been having a blast around branson with creek fishing. I found a honey hole packed full of little small mouth(8-14 inch) they are aggressive as all get out and on 4lb test and an ultra light its alot of fun!!! Wish I had more time off and this heat sucks the life out of you. I am suprised with the drag set at 1Lb how some of these little guys can make the pole bend and the reel scream good times!!!
  5. Well I stopped down there about noon sat with my ultra light setup 4lb mono clear below outlet 2 a little ways. Fishing was great I stared with a white rooster tail 1/16 ounce letting them drift then retrieved slowly. I landed 3 rainbows right off the bat 14,15 and 16 inch but very fat and bulky. When the water and current went up I threw a 1/8 ounce white rooster tail I landed 3 more around the same size. Then I threw a chrome and black rebal minnow. I landed 3 more one about 18 inches again very bulky and fat. Then I went close to the spill out of outlet 2 like every other eager fishermen. I threw a pink puff ball fly with a float miss after miss with mumbled profanity its rather hard to set a hook with alot of slack in the line. I got greedy I should just stayed with my other pattern further down from the outlet. I know guys would just say get use a fly rod blah blah blah . I got hit with a fly across the chest for the first time he apologized and I wasn't upset it didn't hook me.The guys crammed in the outlet reminds me of blue gill fishing as a kid(no offense fly guys you guys catch numbers I could only dream of )I caught one on the egg pattern after fighting the crowd of people. Lesson learned fishing shoulder to shoulder even with bigger fish isn't all ways fun . All and all it was great to wade again. I tried jigs but just like the puff ball they only hit it under super slack line setting the hook was not working more excited mumbled profanity. The fly people this time were very nice to me but that is not all ways the case. Great day on taneycomo. I learn more and more every time I head out this website has been great to me. Only complaint was the heat I threw on layer after layer of spf 50 cream. And folks let me tell you the spray sun screen doesn't work you will get burned as soon as you sweat yea the cream is heavy and greasy but it works!
  6. It all depends on if its a lake or a creek. I like Raw frozen shrimp cut in to little chunks on an ultra light spinning setup. Rooster tails 1/24 -1/8 ounce work great as well . Gulp makes some smelly fake worms that come in a jar those work. There are alot of ways to catch them
  7. Oh u mean around st.louis I didn't know there were st louis people on here . I grew up in Webster groves until two years ago i now live in branson
  8. Sorry about that seemed like a good idea at the time. Oh yea and it was beer 30
  9. better link http://www.landbigfish.com/fish/fish.cfm?ID=33
  10. i know you guys don't believe me but thats ok. I will take a picture when i land the fish. i was out of work when i lived in forsyth i use to go to the creek every day . This is what i saw then and what i saw in the creek the other day http://fish.dnr.cornell.edu/nyfish/Percidae/sauger.html. If i had a cast net i would land one i saw them up close 2-3 feet from me pointy mouth and all
  11. I know what a sucker looks like these look nothing like a sucker. There are in fact walleye and sauger in swan creek if you turn to page 28 of your little mo fishing rules handbook there is a special regulation for walleye and sauger in swan creek.I will try the purple minnows wounder were to buy them around branson. They don't really start biting till dark?
  12. I know this may just add to your frustration. But I have been catching small mouth like crazy on my ultra light spinning rod in the creeks around branson. Green pumpkin finesse worms no weight. I handed my rod to my girl friend to put on sun screen look the other way and she has a nice little mouth on . Its been like catching bluegill they are crazy for it i caught one with the rig i had snagged a few mins before in its mouth. Its like crack to these creek small mouths its unbelievable.
  13. I am not sure what exact fish I am seeing but I live in branson .I see them in the local creeks(for example swan creek in forsyth) I fish , they are most likely Sauger. Anyways these fish sit dead still in the middle of the creek and 99.999% of the time wont give a lure any chase. One time i had them tap a rapala but that was it. I use a ultra light with 4 lb test . Whats the trick for these picky fish
  14. I spoke too soon i didn't see they called for rain tonight. You should of seen this fool with kids on a full size pontoon with a tiny motor(full boar facing upstream he was standing still). First off he slammed sideways in to the the boat dock at cooper creek(bent the crap out of the metal) . Then he rips the door of the hinges nearly sends the boat with only the kids in it to powersite. Hits the opposite bank damages the boat more . Nearley hits the prop on the rocks and crashes again. It was scary for those kids he finally lands it . Omg Not a day for pleasure boaters. These people just don't get it
  15. Is it just me or did they over do it on that release yesterday?
  16. Well My family is coming down next weekend 5/20 to fish(spin fish) they will be staying at Pointe Royale ( phil's was booked power bait would of been perfect). Whats the fishing like down there I have never been in their and I am aware thats its flies and lures only. What is the best pattern for this current? thanks in advance for any advice
  17. My finance always said we have to stop there I am from st.louis but I now live in branson . We stoped there it was cheap and very good and its country . Full of old timers telling stories but it was very good. They give you that southern feel and great food made me proud I moved from st louis to the country.
  18. I always fish from the bank I forgot to include that in my post. But a guy down at the dam gave me a few puff balls on a little jig hook and they were fantastic when the fish were stacked up. What size/shape and or color of crank baits? Any one know what the puff things and the worms go for at phil's?
  19. Been fishing at the dam area doing well some days ok others. I just wanna make sure I am not missing some slap the head type detail. I been fishing jigs white(and other colors) 1/32 or 1/16 ounce slow reel with a random jerk every now and then (also float fishing were I set it 3 or 4 feet and let it drift).I have also been using Rebal chrome minnows 2.5 inch and rooster tails. 2 Lb clear mono . Is their a certain color of jigs or other lures that have been good lately. This message board has been a great help to me I always try to plug lilleys landing and Ozark Anglers at both the branson landing and branson mall stores were I work at Fredrick
  20. how long till its back down to 920 do u think?
  21. Thats cool now I have a buncha questions. Hows the water level up there and around your place? Hows the boat launch area(by the dam) for bank fishing? Were You using jigs? I have been stuck inside far too long I can't take it much longer!
  22. I went to the dam area today. I drove down by the boat launch. The water was just as high was the picture in the other topic. I threw a little nipper white 1/32 ounce jig. And I hooked something it was a 12 inch large mouth bass ?I saw other large mouth bass( bigger ones) . But were are the trout ? Is there anywhere during this high water from shore to catch trout?
  23. It's not that I don't like browns I just didn't go for them thought they were too hard to catch.I must admit I was to afraid to go to upper taney como and use bigger tackle . I guess that's just me . People love to give me nasty looks for not using a fly rod. I don't wanna be immature and give people the finger but its about to that point with these elitists . I feel the need to say something nasty but as a member of this forum i feel that i represent this forum and i should be polite. I would love to scream nasty stuff
  24. 3 hours after I made this post I landed(then released)a nice 17 inch or so rainbow on 2 lb mono(that was a blast). Now I want to learn how to use jigs. I have tried them a bunch of times but never caught a thing my method or color choice must be way off. With jigs are they better with the float or without. Was size and color fluke would be best. I should of posted this question along time ago I was worried people were just gonna tell me to get a fly rod.
