  1. Hey Snakem, what baits do you like using on your A rig. Hollow belly, or solid body? I will not get back out until next weekend, I ususally use hollow belly baits but I am going to try the swimmin super fluke.
  2. Brian, I aggree with Snakem, if I had to take only one trip to the rock in a year, I would make sure it was the last week of April or the first week of May. If you are used to fishing dirty lakes, make sure you down size your fishing line to 6-8lb line. That will greatly improve your catch ratio.
  3. The Elites are not like the opens. I believe you have to be invited to fish the Elites, thus making them "Elite". Anyone with money can fish the other circuits, it doesn't matter what your skill or desire is. Just pay the fee and you are in.
  4. Other than the price, this rig is no different than adding another hook to a drop shot or even fishing a fly with a dropper. I have never heard of people being thought less of because they have a dropper tied on below the dam. By the way, the only group who banned this rig is the same people who think that using a dip net makes it to easy to catch fish. They also think it is unfair if you show up in a different boat than the one you fished out of last tournament. I personally think it is banned because Strike King, Mega Bass, or any of the big lure makers didn't come up with it first.
  5. I agree with Iclass. I am suprised that more people are not mad about a device set into the water that puts out a sound of feeding/scared bait fish being used. The hydrowave, if it really works, should attract more bass than 10 A-rigs.
  6. Don't tell Phil about the ban. I plan on using it this weekend in the Masters tournament on Tanny.
  7. Hey gitnby, what do you think about only using the blades instead of the entire spinner bait. That will still give you the flash and lighten up the rig a little.
  8. I fished my first Pro/Am last year at LOZ. My boater was Jim Kopff. I couldn't have asked for a better boater. He had some trolling motor trouble in the first couple of hours, and after we both tried to fix it for about an hour he made sure that I was in a position to fish while he continued to try to fix it. After giving up on fixing the trolling motor and using the big motor to idle up wind we both were only one fish away from a limit at noon and still didn't have a trolling motor that worked. He ended up in first and I finished in second by .04 lbs. Jim put on a clinic that afternoon culling several times. He answered every question I had, and I had a lot of them. It was a great fishing experience. On the flip side I was not that impressed with the way the ABA ran the pro am. There were too many am's and not enough pros, so when checking in I was asked if I had a boat with me and if I wanted to fish as a boater. I told him that if I wanted to be a boater I would have signed up as a boater. I don't know if anyone took him up on the offer, but I feel that it would have put that boater and his am partner in a great disadvantage for the tournament. I haven't fish another ABA tournament since.
  9. Anyone fishing on the pro side of this tournament. I fished the LOZ tournament and was not linked with a boater. I did get to fish, but there were several that didn't. I don't want to be put in that situation again. I have already registered, but I can update the registration with a boater link. If anyone is planing on fishing this tournament, let me know.
  10. Both work for me too. I also had the same pop up about a virus blocked.
  11. Thanks Phil
  12. A guy here at work told me that he likes fishing around the gold mine. Can anyone tell me where this is at?
  13. I was in a tournament on the rock and I was fishing with a floating Rapala and had cast it over a limb. It was not stuck in the tree, so I reeled it up close to the limb and with a quick jerk the lure came back at me at the speed of light. I tried to turn, but was not near as fast as the lure. The bait hit me in the middle of the chin. As I turned to my partner, he could not stop laughing as I had a lure hanging from my face. Once he realized it was not coming out, he stopped laughing and cut the hook off of the lure. He asked me if I wanted to go in to hospital, I told him no because we already had a limit in the box and it was only 10:00 am. I had him cut the other two hooks and the shank off, but leave enough for the doctor to grab a hold of. I fished all day with that hook in my chin and the goatee hid it pretty well at weigh in. We ended up taking first in the tournament. Didn't win much money, but the prizes were great. That is a fishing trip I will never forget. I am the short fella
  14. My rod and reel budget is usually around $100 each also. I purchased a medium heavy BPS Carbon Lite rod last year and love it. I don't know about their other rods. I was going to get a medium rod for throwing cranks, but I found a good deal on a carrot stick. My next rod I buy will be a Carbon Lite. My advise would be wait until March when Bass Pro and Cabela's have their spring sales, and find nice $120-$150 rod or reel for under $100.
  15. Nice job on the 2nd place finish yesterday. Glad to see you guys did well. Hope you stayed warm. It was really cold up here yesterday.
  16. How about white lighting?
  17. Hey Phil, Is culling legal in these tournaments, or at any time for that matter? Jeff
  18. is there a downloadable link somewhere for this? They don't like it when I stream stuff from the net.
  19. I used to think the same way, that the expensive ones could not be that much better than the cheaper ones. Then I got my first pair of Oakley polarized glasses. They are head and shoulders above the cheaper ones. I now have 2 pair of oakleys. Look on ebay, you can find them for less than $100. I have had my first pair for 4 years and my second pair is on year 2. I used to go through one cheap pair a season. At $10-$20 each for the cheap ones they are now coming out to be about even. Don't get me wrong the cheaper ones will work, but if you can afford it you will get more for your money.
  20. Several years ago I noticed a ton of fish hanging around the steep drop off just down from the mouth of Aunts Creek, where the danger markers are. We were bass fishing at the time so we went back at dusk. We set up on the flat about 30yards from the drop off. We ended up catching 10 channel cats between the 2 and 8 pound range. I don't know if you want to run that far with an 8 year old, but there should be other places on the lake that are similar.
  21. What if those were 42 deer layed out there? Same thing in my book. I believe I saw some pictures of that before. In Michigan I think. Someone told the game wardens and they did a raid on the island were the deer were killed. It turned out that every deer was tagged and legal. By the way, why does it make it better if the picture is in black and white?
  22. I am not a big fan of keeping bass, but it is legal to do so. And Denjac be careful when jumping to conclusions about a picture posted on the internet, social website or not. Why don’t you call the person up and ask him about the picture before posting it on here and bad mouthing him. You may regret something that you said. When I look at the picture I don’t see any that clearly look shorter than 12”. And if you check out the Arkansas fish and game website it states that there is no state wide length limit on largemouth or spotted bass, and the daily limit is 10.
  23. Thanks guys, my uncle put together a trip down there in July. We are going to stay at Fall Creek, some of the guys like to golf. Do they have a ramp, if not where is the closest ramp?
  24. Have they rebuilt the docks at Fall Creek?
