  1. OSU..... I can relate....I remember when the Southwest Conference broke up and my alma mater, Baylor, went independent. I couldn't understand why the strongest conference in the US was being absorbed by all the others. So now we have a big mess....and like many other bad decisions, greed is the motivator. I think we should make up a giant tournament bracket, single elimination, with the winners playing each other until the Champ is determined, while the losers play out the season in a nationwide schedule. The Bowl Games could be the playoffs for the top 32 (or whatever number of teams) that get to the last 5 or 6 weeks undefeated. The college champion would be the winner of the game in the final bracket, to be played on New Years day. All proceeds of every game should be split between all the college teams in the US, per their division. Two or more tournament brackets should be played, according to the divisions that already exist. What do you think?
  2. Sounds like a double thrill....you got to catch a big bass under not-so-normal circumstances and you saved it from probable death. WAYTAGO!!!!
  3. Glad you are so quickly on the mend
  4. Thanks CM. My "blog" was not meant as a complaint, nor did I intend to air negative....I believe very strongly that being able to laugh at myself and put some of my physical problems in the right perspective is very important. In so doing, I am well aware of my blessings which far outwiegh the challenges of my physical history. At the same time, I know that there are millions who are physically challenged more than me....To those I say, "Keep your sense of humor, count your blessings, and make the best of your circumstances." And of course, "if you fish....keep it up!"
  5. Men (and women): This points up one of the main reasons why it is so important to get young people involved in the great out-of-doors. I doubt if this dumb deed was done by a person or persons who had been given the opportunity to take advantage of the many activities available when supervised and made available to them by an adult knowledgeable of the great pleasure there is in the natural wonders of our world. One of the best things we can do for youngsters is get them involved in sports and recreation activities in and around our lakes, rivers, and forests. We should look for opportunities to do so with our kids, neighbors kids, or any others, especially if they don't have a dad.
  6. Your wife is right....be thankful for where you are and what you've got. (I'm one of those that's 1500 miles away.) If you ever need a house-sitter.....
  7. OOPs..sorry about that.

  9. CD should be proud....very nice fish. I think another "bassaniac" has perhaps been enlivened. And to you Chief: Good story....well done. However, inspire him to complete his angling education....turn him loose with a flyrod! Always good to hear from you.
  10. Sickening!
  11. Question Lilley....Do trout tend to swim upstream when released, or do they hang out close to the relase area? Thanks for the release info.
  12. I'm in N. Texas, and I only get to go to Taneycomo once or twice per year. I do not know what the release schedule is. Phil Lilley could tell you. I have found that any time I have been there, the fish are plentiful, and I have caught many....not necessarily dependent on a recent release. My goal is to catch that one that was released about 10 years ago....
  13. 75 year old, 6'2'' body.... Overweight....but only by about 50 pounds Polio....God saved me in my second miracle Bald....hairs grow faster in my ears and nose than on my head Bad hearing....can't hear my wife 10 feet away, but I hear the trout calling all the way from Arizona Tinnitus....never a quiet moment Bad sight....my "optimy" is not optimum Sore nostrils....fortunitely out of sight Skin blemishes....my tan has split up into various discolorations and textures Stained teeth....I know where the yellow went Crooked teeth....my orthodontist straightened my jaw 55 years ago, but didn't even notice my teeth Missing teeth....I've progressed from chew to munch Bursitis....just in my right shoulder....1 out of 2 ain't bad Twice severed rotator cuff....in my left shoulder....2 out of 2 ain't good Damaged nerve in my left elbow....numb is dumb No feeling in my left little finger....no guts dumb numb elbow nerve Muscle atrophy....Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT)...look that up in your Funk and Wagnalls (My stimulus nerves lost their nerve in my left leg) Heart attack....miracle on the way to the golf course (It was also the way to the hospital) Two stents in heart....never heard of'm till I got'm Pacemaker....even the battery is a wonder....last 7+ years Kidney problems....infection and yellow jaundice....my eyes turned pee colored, and my pee just turned and burned Digestive problems/acid reflux....my burp burns and my stomach churns Prostate....larger is not better...."You're gonna do what when I drop my pants and shorts?") Left foot amputated....and it only took 13 surgeries Right foot deformed.....sympathizing with the left Last surgery....removed a stub of a metatorsal bone. Incision made in the wrong place, and had to be restitched twice. Finally healed when my wife rubbed it for weeks with Bag Balm. You know what Bag Balm is - DAIRYMEN USE IT TO KEEP THEIR COW'S UTTERS AND TEATS HEALTHY. Now I have 4 teats growing out of my stub.... But other than that, I'm doing fine.... except for trout fever, mountain melencholy, and cold stream syndrome. Y'all take care! chambug
  14. Well done, Cal....you have earned the right to do it again. Taneycomo is awesome. I hope to get there sometime before winter....and stay at Lilley's....our favorite place in MO.
  15. AWWWW....you are not helping me one bit. Seeing those kinds of waters takes 25 years off my life. Now I want to leave for AZ immediately. Good pics OTF, and I'm glad you had a good time. I agree with Boatman....just being there is enough, but to catch a few trout too....WOWWWWW! It's amazing how the mountains possess you when you get near them....
  16. Sic'm Flyfisher! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY
  17. Chief, You oughta be ashamed of yourself. Here I am, livin' in 100+ temperatures for over 50 days in a row now, wishin' late September would hurry up 'cause that's when we're going to the mountains of Arizona to catch some trouts. At 75 an old fart like me had best not be wishin' time goes by fast.
  18. Very true! I always make sure I have about 1 foot of floating line beyond the tip when the tippet end is reaching to the reel.
  19. That's what Daddies are made for!
  20. Good luck, and bring back some pictures. We'll be south of you sometime near the first of October.....somewhere in the Gunnison area. I envy you for the cool weather you are having up there.
  21. Take it with a smile....I wrote it with one. When you've lived 3/4 of a century, a little humor makes the world a little more pleasant. I certainly meant no offense, or disparagement. Heck, I must admit you have found a wonder for a girlfriend, so do whatever you have to to deserve her. Regardless of camping facilities and gear, sounds to me like you have every reason to be a"Happy Camper"! I'm still smiling!
  22. Hoglaw, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING. Your girlfriend needs to stick her fillet knife into your air mattress, wrap your Grandy Turkey Mosquito Beater arouind your neck, and throw you in the river to spend the night with the smallmouths. I'm having a hard time stopping my laughing at your uncamping plight. I look forward to your girlfriend's side of the story.
