How Do You Store Your Tackle?
bsteele02 replied to Stoneroller's topic in Equipment - Rods/Reels/Line/and all the other toys
I have two tackle boxes. One giant one that I keep all my backups in or different colors for swapping depending on the conditions etc. I bank fish so I keep the big one in my trunk. I have a small lightweight one I carry around with my essientials. -
Good April Fishing So Far
bsteele02 replied to brianetz1's topic in August A. Busch Conservation Area
I am not sure if I am going to use chicken liver again because all those tiny herds of bluegill kept pecking it off my treble hook. I hope some of those bass have grown. I would like to catch a bass worth taking a picture of at Busch besides those little thin skinny guys you can catch one after another. -
Good April Fishing So Far

Well I went out yesterday during that on again and off again rain. We got pretty much skunked. Cats were not biting anything. I tried chicken liver, some stinkbait, and worms. Caught a couple bluegill that were not even 3 inches. I did try about an hour worth of bass fishing. Not a single hit. Oh well, was still a fun day. There is always next weekend. -

Thanks for the report. I am going tomorrow morning. Mostly going after cat. But might try a bit of bass fishing while keeping an eye out on my tightlines. -
Good Time To Fish Busch Lakes.
bsteele02 replied to BredMan's topic in August A. Busch Conservation Area
Thanks for the head sup, when I was a teenage hooligan I used to pirate many of boats at Busch. lol -
I am a huge fan of this show. I really enjoyed that recent episode where he was in the USA. Strangercreek that is so cool that he took the time to email you back. I also agree that there is good fishing in carp and gar. They are fun to catch. Even if you don't want to eat them they put up good fights and take nice pictures. I just fish for anything really. My tackle box is a hybrid and I carry about 4 different poles with me in my vehicle so if no luck on Bass, I will switch to catfish, bluegill, carp, crappie, etc. Expand your horizons I always say.

Yeah I never think of Bass fishing when I think Rend Lake. I think about some nice crappie fishing though, -
Hey thanks bud! That is at least a start.

Good Time To Fish Busch Lakes.
bsteele02 replied to BredMan's topic in August A. Busch Conservation Area
I actually consider Busch my home waters. I don't have a boat or anything so I am a landlubber mostly private farm ponds bank angler. Busch is nearby and I usually have good success with catfish. I get frustrated bass fishing there though as I seem to lose more lures than catch fish. I have never caught a bass over a pound. But I have caught catfish up to 8lbs. I do agree it sometimes can be frustrating due to the fact it is over fished. I really need to make a friend with a boat. lol -
I don't own a boat and Mark Twain lake is the closest big lake to where I live at, so I was thinking around my birthday treating myself and a buddy of mine to a guided fishing trip on Mark Twain. Do any of you know of any guides or have any suggestions? Thanks!

Thumbs up that is an amazing catch for a first timer. Very good of you to get another person interested in the awesomeness of fishing.

I have fished the past two days. So no weekend plans for me. I might check out that new lakeside park off of 370 on Monday. Catch and release only but that is fine with me I will just go after bass. I hit up Busch wildlife with a couple of friends. Thursday in the evening the catfish were nailing chicken livers on lake 4. We all caught our limit. Gonna fry em up tomorrow for lunch. I caught a pretty decent sized one. I had no way of determining it's weight but I would guess between 3 to 5lbs. See the picture I attached. He was fun to fight on a zebco 33 with 8lb test. Today was terrible for fishing but it was nice to see the sun. I caught nothing but a couple tiny bass and bluegill. Fun to catch but nothing to write home about. I wish you all luck on your weekend fishing endeavors.

Was a pretty bad weekend for me. I did some farm pond fishing at some fishing buddies family farms. Nothing was biting at all and these are pretty active one after another type ponds. I caught two turdlet bass. Using topwater plastic worms floating them on top of the pond scum. Biggest catch was a nasty sunburn.

1. Marlin fishing charter. I wanna fight one of those bad boys. 2. General deep sea fishing charter after anything that swims in the ocean. Shark or Goliath Grouper would be awesome. 3. Musky and Walleye fishing somewhere up north. Steelhead works too. 4. Smallmouth bass fishing. Never been anywhere that has em. I hear they are fun to catch. 5. Catch a largemouth over 5lbs. 6. Take a trophy flathead. The one thing I did complete on my bucket list was visit Taneycomo and catch some nice trout. I went in high school a long time ago and rented a boat and had a perfect day of catching one after another.

Lots of prayers from me tonight. My heart goes out to those affected by that nasty storm.

Yeah had a good day out there today despite the rain. Caught a few cats and even some eatin size bluegill on chicken livers.
-
I have had buffalo before and it was darn good. Thanks for the filleting advice.

I was always told Carp are nasty to eat. But I have read some other reports that say they are decent if fried. I have caught some pretty decent sized ones before in Creve Coeur lake. Wouldn't mind catching some for dinner at some point as long as I hear they are decent to eat.

Worms are my trump card. I always bring em and I only use them if all else fails because they seem to produce the bites.

Hi there, I am new to this forum and just wanted to introduce myself. Name is Brandon 26 years old I am from Saint Peters. I have lived in Missouri since I was in middle school. Fishing is my favorite outdoor activity and I have been an avid angler all my life. Nothing beats it. I am a land lubber since I don't know anybody that owns a boat and I don't have one myself, so I find myself mostly fishing private farm ponds, conservation areas, and/or the mississippi or missouri from the bank. I like to catch anything that swims (except water moccasins) but I would have to say bass are my favorite. Nothing gives me a rush like a big largemouth taking a top water lure. Anyway looking forward to sharing info, and chatting it with you all. Have a good one.

That is my favorite lake to fish out that way. I always catch fish there. I was just there two weeks ago and caught some cats and gills. One year I caught bass back to back for a straight hour on minnows. Some were keepers too. I always go there if I am having a rough day at the other lakes. Thanks for the report I am planning on hitting up Busch this week with my Dad.
