Current River has been shut down from Tan Vat to Gooseneck until further notice. All campgrounds are also closed throughout this stretch.
  2. Awesome!!!
  3. That is awesome. Thanks for posting!!
  4. As I have stated in the past, living in south-central Missouri is not the most ideal place to live when you love to duck hunt! Your only chance at limiting on Mallards requires yourself to travel to other parts of the state or go to Arkansas. But, we still set our blind and do all the work to eek out a few birds every year. Every once in a great while you get a morning like today! Lucy enough to share the blind with my father and my 9 year old son we shot two limits of Mallards and 1 Widgeon! My son just being there to spot the ducks and blow on his call a bit, while dad and I do the shooting. First duck in was the Widgeon and he was finished off in one shot. Next came the Mallards. Didn't even see them till they lit right in the decoys. We stood up and I knocked down 2 in two shots, won't say what happened in my dad's end?! Had 6 Mallards, all drakes; circle and land 60 yards up the lake. Less than 5 mins they swam right into range. We stood up and the shooting was better as we dropped 4 drakes. A bit later 2 made one circle, cupped their wings and dropped right in with my dad knocking one down and I knocked the other one down. All ducks retrieved by my lab, man what a beautiful morning! Now time to get my son his deer!
  5. Saturday turned out to be a lot better than expected. Had 4 green-wing teal come in at shooting time, poor shooting only netted 1. Had a high group of gadwalls circle a couple times a few mins later, but they didn't want to commit. Had a group of 6 green-wings come in while we were watching the gadwall. Better shooting netted us 4. Sat back and relaxed for an it when all of a sudden 15 green-wings buzzed through, banked left and in they came. 5 didn't make it out and our day ended about and hour later with no action. While we were finishing up cleaning watched two big groups of gadwalls circle around and lad in the middle of the lake! Sunday we headed out with high expectations since we saw quite a bit on Saturday. No such luck. One gadwall in at 6:35 that we shot and never saw another duck!
  6. Thanks guys!! Always enjoy taking him and also still enjoy going with my dad as well!
  7. Overall a rough weekend for my 9 year old and myself. Did not see a deer either morning, but the afternoons were a touch better. Saw 2 does and 2 fawns Saturday evening, but they stayed just out of comfortable shooting range for my son. Sunday evening did not see a deer till 5 mins before legal shooting ended. Watch him come across the field from a long way, but could never get him to stop longer than 3 seconds max. He was a good buck, just wish he would have stoppped longer than he did. Had another deer come through right after him, but yet again had a hard time getting it to stand still for my son to get a good shot. My son enjoyed going, just wish he could have gotten a shot off! Now we will wait for regular gun season!
  8. Good luck to all those young enough to hunt this weekend. Let us know how the young ones did. Not ideal conditions for deer but comfortable for the kiddos!
  9. Current had a pretty good rise on it. It will retreat quicker than others, but it rose 5 feet in two hours around Owls Bend. Had some friends lose their campers.
  10. I caught a small mouth one year down by the dam and my jig head came untied as I lifted him into the boat. We went down the bank and came back and I caught him again with the jig head still in his mouth. Literally less than 30 mins apart. Nice to get my jig head back. Lol
  11. Glad everyone had a great morning. For the first time in over 30 years I will not be spring turkey hunting. Between work and kid's activities on each weekend I just won't have any time to dedicate to it this year. I look forward to seeing all the reports and especially the pics!
  12. The photo I saw right after the water dropped showed major damage. Moved the bathroom several feet from it's location.

    What's Cooking?

Our Christmas Dinner. Two smoked chickens. Turned out fantastic. Brined for 2 days then stuffed with onion, apple, lemon, and garlic. A little salt and pepper on the outside! Have enough for leftover chicken salad and will use the carcasses to make some excellent broth.
  15. Headed down for the last three days of this split. Can't wait. Always look forward to this trip! Hope for good reports!
  16. Finished the season off with a bang this morning. Windy, raining and then snowing! Once it switched to snow the deer started moving. Had two does come by about 7:50. 8:30 a nice 8 point comes by and my season is over! Saw two other bucks while walking to find my deer! What a gorgeous, but wet morning!
  17. Well it happened! Took my son out again after school this evening and we hadn't been there long and had 3 does come out. Bad part was they were down wind and nervous. They ran back into the woods never to be seen again. Sat a bit longer and two deer came in a hung around just a bit too long. I let Cayden get situated and he finally said he was on the one in front and I said shoot then. Deer hit the ground. He got up and wandered into the woods about 10 steps and falls over dead. Couldn't be more proud of my son on his first kill. What we thought was a doe turned out to be a button buck! Now time to try and kill one for me this weekend! Happy hunting and stay safe!
  18. Well it has been an up and down season so far. Opening day comes with all the excitement of the new season and the weather was tremendous for the first time in a long time. Completely whiffed on descent buck about 8:30. Should not have missed, but I did. Saw another good one at 11, but he stayed in the brush and never presented a good shot. Didn't see much Sunday Morning and my 8 year old was begging to go Sunday afternoon, so I took him out. Saw one doe, but she wouldn't turn broadside for him to get a shot. Went out this evening as soon as my son and I could get away from school.! Saw 4 before we could even get to the stand. Got settled in for the last hour of the day. Saw a dandy buck cut across the corner of the field and head into the woods away from us. Then had a forked horn walk right by us, and I could not get him to stop. Right before dark had another doe come in, but my son struggled to find her in the scope as light was fading fast. Hope to add more ups than downs to this thread for the rest of gun season! Be safe and shoot straight!
  19. Excellent morning Billets. We had two groups of green wings come in this morning. Had a guy call the shot in the first group way too early. Second group actually sat down in the Dekes before we knew they were there. Ended up with two and should have had more!
  20. Probably should read day and night! That was the difference in Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was a tremendous morning till about 8:30. Worked several groups. Even had one group almost light on the dogs head as she was retrieving for me. 3 guns, 13 teal. Shoulda, coulda shot more, just timing of a couple groups didn't work well. Sunday- Did not see one group! As mentioned in the past, that is the way it is around where I hunt. It can be lights out or it can be dead as a hammer. Always fun to be out though!
  21. Had two in the decoys till right before shooting time. Didn't see anymore till about 7:30. Had 20 come out of nowhere. Two guys didn't even shoot ? but three of us did and knocked down 6. Left at 8 due to other commitments! Love taking my 8 year old with us as the group swung right in his face!
  22. Looks like the weather may cooperate for opening weekend!!! Can't wait to get out and enjoy the start of another great year! Hope everyone had a great summer, and look forward to seeing your stories and pictures!
  23. I thought that, but wanted to be sure.
