  1. You best bet would probably be craigslist, maybe pickup a short trailer and have a welding shop modify it to hold your boat..Saum Welding in Washington, MO does some good work. Looks like your gonna have a nice looking boat. I've been kicking around the idea of building one for awhile. What kind of ply did you use, and were did you get it? Also, did you design it yourself? Gavin
  2. Rocker refers to the curve on the bottom of the boat..More rocker or rise on each end makes the boat easier to turn..Less rocker makes turning more difficult but the boat will track in a straight line better. That Rendevous isnt banana shaped like a true WW canoe and might be a good solo boat. Though it doesnt look like it would be very comfortable with two people in it..if you can only afford one boat go with a 16'-17' tandem canoe in royalex or Old town croslink... FWIW, I use my 17' tandem canoe a lot more than my solo canoe. It holds more gear, more beer, the occasional passenger. Rendevous Specs.. http://www.wenonah.com/products/template/p...2a7ea592da323e2
  3. Not sure...I paddle a Wenonah Vagabond, which is just a bit smaller than the Rendevous..Its a good flat water boat, tracks straight, its fast, and it holds enough gear for a couple days on the water. Wouldnt want second passenger in it though. Some folks think its a bit wobbly, but it hasnt been a problem for me. The Rendevous is a bit longer and wider with deeper sides..., with quite a bit of rocker..Tracking might be an issue.. Paddle it before you buy if that is an option or ask around at paddling.net Cheers.
  4. No what you mean about Martins....My bro-inlaw brought his Martin over at X-mas. It didnt sound as good as my Alvarez and the factory action was too high for comfort. Definitely in need of a pro setup. Frankly, if I had the $ for a nice Martin I'd probably opt for a Huss & Dalton.
  5. Home-Alvarez AD60SC Dreadnought Cutaway with onboard electronics, Spruce top, mahogany sides..Had it set up to play mediums. Away-Oscar Schmidt Dreadnought...got it for $50 on ebay.. my campfire/float trip guitar. Action is a little high, but it plays OK with lights. Had my friends 60's era Les Paul at the house for awhile, but I never liked the weight or the wide neck..Thinking of adding a Fender HSS Stat to the mix in the near future.
  6. Started playing acoustic a couple years ago. I play a bit of folk, country, blues, and a some easy bluegrass numbers..Not very good by any means, need to work on my scales more, play along with music more, and work on funking up my rhythms. Fretting hand good, bad rhythm hand..at least my 9 month old daughter enjoys it. Cheers.
  7. Hogjaw nailed the summer time pattern......When I fly fish for them I usually use a Gaine's Sneaky Pete, or a Sparkleminnow in Pearl or Crawfish colors (Browns, Olives, etc). If they wont come up, go down and get em...but be sure to switch back to topwater every once in awhile..dont want to miss the bite if they get on it. I also like to toss buzzbaits, flukes, and 4" plastics for them..usually a Chomper or a Zoom Fat Albert Grub in Green Pumpkin.
  8. I usually cast em up and dead drift them, twitch em on the swing when the fly starts to drag then recast..Most of my strikes come on the dead drift. Cheers.

Close...23.9"....A size 11 or 13 black & gold rapala is a really good choice, but youll up the odds if you have one of these.
  10. I'd avoid a #18 scud hook..had a lot of trouble with fish coming unbuttoned on scud hoods smaller than a #14..Switched to a straight eye for all the nymphs that I used to tie on #16 and below scud hooks and no more problems with fish coming off. Cheers.
  11. Think I'll stuff mine in my Roth IRA. I dont think its going to do anything for the economy but I'm still glad to get a portion of my money back. Wish they took less in the first place. Cheers.
  12. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv/?site..._cd=00065,00060 Looks like they got a nice little bump, but it should be fishable, though I'd recommend that you float it. Cheers.
  13. They workd just fine in the winter...just layer up a bit and your comfortable..The air temp never cracked 10 degrees the day this was taken. Spent the entire day floating and only got chilly a couple times. Cheers.
  14. Drove by Tilles this AM and there was at least 10 people out chucking cheese. Get your welfare trout now or they will be gone. Cheers.
  15. There are so many places, nice places to visit in Montana.....I usually fly to Bozeman and rent a car (airfare is usually the cheapest) book a couple guide days and do several on my own. Favorite places to fish...Yellowstone Below Livingston, L. Madison, Ennis Lake, Bear Trap Canyon on the Madison, the Boulder, Black Canyon of the Y. Stone in the Park. Stillwate River...If you are looking for a guide I'd recommend booking through Brian & Jenny Grossenbacher http://www.grossenbacherguides.com/ out of Bozeman or Tim Wade at N. Fork Anglers in Cody, Wyo. I'm not familiar with any of the Guides in Ennis, West Y. Stone or Missoula. Another good guide.. "Andy" Szofran Red Lodge, MT 406-446-3819 or 406-425-1761. Cheers.
  16. I'd imagine that most of the lakes were frozen over for the last couple weeks..might be enough water to fish now.
  17. I've fished off a few flats skiffs, and they are very comfortable and stable. No need for a rail on the casting deck...Not sure how well it would work out for Taney though....You might try adding a platform and pushpole to an existing rental boat and see how it works before you buy a flats rig.... Pushpoles arent cheap either..A Fiberglass push pole runs around $300, graphite models can go for $800 or more, something to consider if a customer gets one stuck in the muck and cant retrieve it... Cheers.
  18. Most of the sculpins I see are in the 3-4 inch range, but they do get bigger. Big trout also like big minnows, central stoneroller minnows, shiner minnows (bleeding in most of MO, duskystripes in the White R. drainage), Ozark Minnows, and S. red belly dace. Stonerollers are common almost everywhere and they average around 5-6", shiners usually run around 4" long, ozark minnows and dace are usually around 2-2.5" long. I dont think that trout go for topminnows like the N. Studfish and blackspot top minnow but stream bass certainly like to eat them. Cheers.
  19. The Venice Cafe is a favorite of ours..Good bands, tacky decor, and Uncle Bill at the door. If you like the Venice, you might enjoy the the Grateful Inn in Maplewood its just west of the Schafly Bottleworks.
  20. My wife and I should be down there for the parade with a bunch of folks. Its a good time, but we usually head for the Venice before it gets dark and the crowd gets to crazy. Say howdy if you see us.
  21. In an uncrowded setting I prefer to approach from downstream, cast up, and make my first cast count. If your in an environment were the fish are surrounded by anglers most of the time I dont think it really matters that much. Cheers.

There are a few good fish in there..How big do you think this one is?

You can try the stuff in that book but you will probably be better off with some medium spin tackle and selection of big rapalas. Cheers.
  24. 69% the beatles gave me fits.
  25. I'm thinking Grass Pickeral unless they stock Musky in that lake. Grass, Chains, and Musky all look similar. Grass pickeral are the smallest of the pike family known to inhabit MO..They dont get very big, maybe a foot long..Chain Pickeral get a little bigger, I've caught a few over 2' long on the 11pt but I'm not sure if they are found in Lake Springfield. Never have caught a Musky in MO. Cheers. Chain Pickeral http://mdc.mo.gov/cgi-bin/mofish/mofish.cgi?id=35
