  1. As Al said, there arent allot of places that can support trout, that dont have them already. Private stockings occur in many places, and there are a few pockets of wild fish on private land in this state. Its a rare treat to gain access to some of those places and thats the way it should be. Many of the other springs are unfit to hold trout. Many are intermittent, or too nitrogen rich to support a food chain (no forage, no fish). I do have a wish list though..... 1) Statewide limit of 1 brown trout 2) More enforcement 3) Trout stocking between Akers & Pulltite, and make it a white ribbon stream. 4) Move the Blue Ribbon on the Current down to Akers, if Aker's to Pulltite gets stocked. 5) Brown Trout on the Eleven Point 6) Access to the upper end of Spring Creek (Near Ft. Wood) 1& 2 seem attainable. I wouldnt hold your breath for any of the others. Cheers.

$269,000 is allot for 5-6 acres with buildings that need allot of work...Think Dave Berry's place is still on the market...17 acres with a new home on top of the hill off the road to Parker.....in the $150k range.
  3. Eggs certainly do work....especially for rainbows....but its not in my top ten for brown trout...they usually prefer drab natural colors without allot of flash or flourescence. Cheers.
  4. Kev, you can get Chuck's Book by joining Missouri Smallmouth Alliance. Chuck gave them the rights to the book before he passed away last year.. http://www.missourismallmouthalliance.org/MSA/Welcome.html T. Hargrove Fly Fishing in Brentwood has them occassionally too...but they sell quickly. The MF is very popular and the fish are well educated..Its usually better early in the year, and its best to float it or fish at night in the heat of the summer. Hwy F to 47 for a long float...or 47 down to Mammoth on the Big for a short one..Plus their is a canoe rental in Washington State Park if you want to float the Big in that are. A client of mine owns Cherokee Landing, and they offer a couple floats on the Big... A short one from St. Francious(sp) State Park down to their place, or a long one from their place down to Blackwell. Have fun.
  5. Not a fan of most corn sqeezins...but I'll give it a go.......... Gotta love those hole in the wall tackle shops. I cant pass one up. Some have a good vibe, others dont. Its a tough business, and I always like to show the flag for a good one.
  6. That's a very broad question...There are tons of good books on the subject...I'd start with a Whitlock's Guide to Aquatic Trout Foods. Cheers.
  7. Dont know, but sometimes they arent eating what you think they are. They might have been keyed on nymphs, emergers, cripples, or spinners instead of duns, or something else entirely....Better luck next time.
  8. Highland it is...must have been confused by all that corn.
  9. As JD said...duck wing feathers are for wet flies...different animal parts work for other things.
  10. Phil, the milage on the maps is pretty accurate....there are tons of illegal access points...so those who run their own...can get in and get out just about anywhere...Most popular floats for the rentals... Jadwin Canoe...Baptist to Cedar Grove....Blue Ribbon Trout...great water Akers Ferry Canoe Rental...Cedar to Akers. Stocker Rainbow Have a Fish Fry Water Current River Canoe Rental....Akers to Pulltite...Leave your rod at home and fish in the cooler water Carr's Canoe Rental...Pulltite to Round Spring...Fair Fishing, Hit the good spots...but bring a full cooler just in case. Two Rivers Canoe Rental...Round Spring to Two Rivers, or Williams to Two Rivers..Fishing picks up...but you will have jet boats to contend with. Most of the other rentals are way down river in the redneck riviera....some good water down that way though.... Favorite Camp Spots....on the river anywhere. Akers Group Sites...Pulltite Group Sites...Jerktail landing...and that is about it.
  11. Biz, brought me to Madison County, IL today....30 minute meeting then I went hunting for Jerry's Tackle Shop in Highlandville,IL. Saw lots of half browned out corn and finally found the place. Small town shop...but a good one.......Not a ton on the pegs, but nice folks.....Fly Fishing Stuff, Hardware Fishing, Live & Cut Bait, Guns & Ammo....If they dont have it, I'm sure that they will order or make it for you.......Ended up with about half dozen house made spinnerbaits and a few other odds and ends..... 4 1/4oz twin spins....a couple of Jerry's Weedless Wonders...(triple spin).Swivels on the spinners could be upgraded to ball bearing models...but they should catch as is. Worth the stop if your out that way.
  12. Looks like a couple of moron's got caught dumping chemicals in the Jack's Fork recently... https://www.facebook.com/#!/CurrentRiverFriends
  13. I usually put a light coat on each then slide em together...wipe off the excess before you seat if fully...then give it a twist to line it up with the guides.

Call down there and ask....Other options....Ozark Mountain Ranch just down the road...no number handy but the folks are very nice..camp on the river for free....or you can try grabbing a non-reservable site up at Montauk..Look in Loop 2 & 3. Cheers.
  15. Did it slide off the blank leaving a couple inches of rod blank exposed or did it sheer off right behind the cork?..if it slid off glue it back on with some 1 or 2 hour epoxy and make sure its aligned with the guides. If it cracked off...you might be able to repair the break with section of dowel rod or metal tubing and some epoxy. Or send it back for warranty service. Cheers.
  16. Guess you could go from Hwy 8 to Riverview...but its a long shuttle (Riverview is on the other side of the river) and youll have to portage the bridge at Scott's Ford.....I'd probably just go from 8 to Scott's and take my time..or go from Cedar Ford down to Scott's...Camp someplace in the trout water and paddle out in the AM... Have fun.
  17. Fun, Fun, Fun....will have to take the girls down there soon...
  18. Friends of the Ozark Riverways is the bunch that I'm most familiar with. Havent heard a position out of the Conservation Federation, Missouri Votes Conservation, or Coalition for the Environment....Usually allot of overlap amongst those groups though. https://www.facebook.com/#!/CurrentRiverFriends
  19. Looks like a great time!

    Browns

There are multiple issues on the Niangua...habitat, float pressure, loose regulations, & lots of folks killing everything in order to have meat on the table for dinner...heck last time I floated it was a couple days before deer season...more gunfire than I hear when I float the Big Piney near Ft. Leonard Wood.

  22. The book in that Wapsi kit is a very good one. Shows about all you need to know to tie a good fly and the materials arent junk...not a bad deal as kits go..but you will be better off buying that book and separate stuff. You will end up buying it anyway.
  23. Have a bunch of 8wts collecting dust....but my 7wt's see allot of use.
  24. How does MODNR profit off the Niangua? other than Bennett....seems to be a free for all down there.
