  1. A treble is considered one hook with 3 points...You cannont have more than 3 total hooks on a single bait used by rod and reel in the state of Missouri.,..Most people either remove 2 wires or add 2 non hooked baits or 2 willow leaf blades on the arms that don't have hooks.
  2. Yeah, I was thinking the Mustad Ultrapoints would work good also. In a size 4 on the square bill ones and size 2 on the divers...
  3. I never have been able to reel with my right hand. I cast with it and reel with the left. I was told of a really nice BPS reel by a friend that has a lot of different ratios and comes in either left or right reel. It's the Pro Qualifier. First really easy to use bait caster I've owned. Costs around $100 but I think I got mine on sale for around $75 last fall.

    Sweet!

Mizzou is making Baylor look like a not Top-10 team today!
  5. I have an Ocean Kayak Prowler 11T heading to my house as I type. I have mostly all the equipment needed so far (life vest, paddle, car rack, still need an anchor system), but I really want to put a fish finder on it to help me in the local lakes identify structure, depth, and water temp (and of course fish). I've narrowed down my choices to a few that are under $200 or so, and each is from one of the three major manufacturers. I know I want a color screen since they are more easily read in the sun, and I want it to be fairly small to stay out of the way while fishing. The three I've really been looking at are the Lowrance Elite-4x (possibly the DSI version too), the Garmin echo 300c, and the Humminbird 190c. Each one seems to have it's benefits and drawbacks. The Humminbird is about $161 shipped from Amazon and it has a transducer available to exchange for no charge that is made to work with the scupper hole in the Ocean Kayak so it doesn't hang out the bottom of the hull. Only problem with this finder I'm seeing is that it is only a single beam unit that has a pretty narrow 20 degree cone. Not that I'm going to be in really deep water or anything but the narrow cone might not be preferable. The Lowrance is $169 ($199 for the DSI) and looks pretty slick, especially the DSI version with its DownScan Imaging. They both have dual beam transducers so that's a plus too. The only thing is it's transducer might not fit in the scupper hole that is specially made for my kayak, although I've seen people make it work. Is the DSI version really that much better of a thing to have? I've also heard that Lowrance has had some reliability/quality issues lately, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. That leaves the Garmin which is the best deal at $138 ($219 from BPS with a $30 rebate and I have a $50 gift card), which I've heard is a really nice finder that has a dual beam transducer and a really nice screen with easy to use menus. Again, the fitting of the transducer in the scupper hole is an issue, but that's really the only problem I've seen with it. Anyone use any of these fish finders and have any advice on them to sway me towards one or another?
  6. I've pretty much narrowed it down to a Piranhamax 190c, a garmin 300c or a Lowrance Elite-4x. All are color and are right around $200. I've also decided to just use the scupper hole that is designed for the transducer instead of the shoot through hull.
  7. Snap your pole and a kick in the groin?
  8. Actually quite a few spicies of crayfish glow under UV light. Not like their whole bodies but they glow spots on their carapace. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_animals_glow_under_a_UV_light
  9. There's actually a company that is making UV plastics now. Seen them advertised on City Limit Fishing.
  10. I'll be the owner of an Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 11T soon and I was looking for a rooftop car rack that would work well. I was wondering what kinds everyone uses and how they like it. I've been looking around at the Thule, Yakima and Inno systems and I'm liking the Inno INA446 locking system, mostly because the price seems right and it has the built in locks where the Thule and Yakima are separate purchases for the locks. This will be going on my Nissan Altima using most likely an Inno base bars and also on my wife's Highlander with the factory bars. Thanks!
  11. I was going to suggest what Al suggested. Get a hundred or so canoes and kayaks to float down Shoal to make a point. I think it's a great idea.
  12. How is there a difference in legal opinion? It's a Supreme Court case that decided what is legal and what isn't...It's pretty written in stone I think...The prosecuting attorney must not be able to read...
  13. Getting an Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident I'd love a Coosa, but this one is being given to me through work for free, so I can't complain.
  14. If you are using a rod and reel, you can only use a bait/lure that has a total of 3 hooks on it.
  15. That's a decent looking mount system for a sit-in, but I think it'd get in the way a little on a sit-on, which I'm getting...
  16. Hope a game warden isn't around when you are fishing with 5...Care or not, you're getting a citation...I bet you care then...Period...
  17. I'm guessing you have someone else land it for you? Or do you hand reel the line in beceause you aren't going to get close enough to a fish if you have 30' of line...That is unless you have a 30' rod
  18. I know you are wanting to fly fish, but I caught a couple in a very short time last year after we could start keeping them at Lost Acres in Overland on a "montauk special". Just a woolly with a brass inline spinner on an ultralight spinning rig with 4lb mono. Seemed almost like they hadn't seen something like that for some reason because I caught like 3 in about ten casts.
  19. Looks great on an iPhone!!
  20. These are professional fishermen...If they can't catch a fish on a single lure on a single line on a single rod, they shouldn't be professional fishermen. Not sure how anyone would want to thrown that thing for an entire 8 hour tournament day anyways...that'd be a workout, those fuggin things are heavy!
  21. It's not a free one($7.99) but it has all the USGS topo maps in the US and canada available... http://topomapsapp.com/ http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/topo-maps/id306014271?mt=8
  22. A treble hook is considered one hook...you can't have more than 3 total hooks on one "bait", and the alabama umbrella rig has 5 hooks...
  23. And I always thought trout had small mouths. Those fish have some huge chompers!!
  24. I am going to be getting a kayak soon and I am wanting to outfit it with a fish finder. What's everyone's thought on this regarding brand, mounting instructions, and maybe even some pictures of your setup if youve done this. The kayak I'm getting has a designated scupper for a transducer but I'm kind of thinking of mounting inside to keep it safe from rocks. I've looked at lowrance and humminbird and I'm kind of leaning to the HB 385ci since it can come with a kayak kit( battery, drybag, charger, and mounting kit) Thanks in advance.
