  1. Well last season I tried the omens and have been stuck since. I'm anxious to try the new ones because the current models perform waaaaay above their price, other than the guides. I had an envy but honestly it's not worth the extra $100 for it. 13 is doing some things right. From now on any high end rods will likely be built by me which still isn't cheap. At least a person can accumulate parts over time though. Btw I was very very sick over it.
  2. Hahahahahaha!!!! Good story!
  3. I'll never figure out how you guys do that. I'm glad people do but I'm not one of those people.
  4. Good report! This is what I wanted last week lol.
  5. The lake was slick flat calm in the mornings. You're forgetting that beaver pushes water in as well as table rock dumping out. I've seen current lots of times visible on stationary objects and by my bait drifting down stream. This time it happened to be going the wrong way. Why does distance from the dam matter? When water is moving it doesn't matter where the dam is.
  6. Thanks for the input! If you have pics I know the guys here would appreciate seeing them. I watched some videos last night on YouTube. Over 100 actually lol. The Savage Gear 16" swimbait is fascinating. I want one just because lol. The things I'm pumped about most are the new omens as I already mentioned, the Daiwa sv105 (cheaper if you order from Japan), 13's lefty reels, shimano casitas (for my kids), terminator frog, sunline assassin, and maybe the lews magnesium reel. I haven't warmed up to lews braking system yet though. Still it's a lot of reel at that price. There's others I look forward to seeing in person but my brain is overloaded after all the reading and watching. I can't imagine being there.
  7. I've got several and they are a hard rid to beat at that price. Very sensitive rod for $100. The biggest gripe with them is the guides. Fortunately they changed those on the gen2 omens.
  8. Thank you for the reply. The only things that have kept me from buying them is building my own, 13 Fishing, and resale value. I know that last one sounds odd but I like to sell and try new stuff periodically. Every time I pick one up I'm impressed though. Another sleeper rod is the Daiwa Laguna casting rods. They're $30. The reel seat isn't that great and it's got cheap guides but they're a really decent stick at that price. My son has a couple so I've got to fish a little with them. The 7'mh is a pretty respectable spook rod and I may buy one just for that. It's not fast enough to do and serious pitching with but if you need a moderate/fast rod it's worth looking into if you want to be cheap.
  9. I have a 7' heavy that weighs 3oz that I made with a steez on it in grand lake. Well it's probably in Hudson now.
  10. Anyone spy any goodies you can't live without? The new 13 Fishing Omen gen2's look intriguing and I'll likely order one. Also the Megabass Levante has me curious as well. Curious enough to hold the omen order until I see what they're about lol.
  11. Yea they are very return friendly. Which series are you using? How would you rate their sensitivity?
  12. I've yet to fish with any but those rods feel great for the money.
  13. I like the square bills quite a bit. They're just a store brand chinese knockoff.
  14. WOW! Thank you for posting.
  15. That is very interesting. It doesn't quit explain why it changed from one day to the next but it sure can't be ruled out. That is unless the upper water had warmed up by Sunday.
  16. Isn't 917 just the level for summer time?
  17. When I was talking to my bosses about this he told me about when he saw it flowing backward past holiday island by beaver town one time. The only explanation we could determine was beaver quit dumping and the water rebounded. If you think of it kinda like a wave it makes more sense. The water is higher obviously up river when beaver dumps. The whole lake doesn't raise equally.
  18. Don't think of it as bounce back from the dam itself. The entire lake was moving forward including the water around eagle rock. Then then when they stop pulling the water stacks up and can only go backward after losing so much forward momentum. Add to this that Beaver stopped dumping in so it lost the water pushing in from up river. All the forward momentum stopping is going to have to have a reaction. It wouldn't just stop and be still. This is just my theory though. I saw it flowing backward by owl creek, up river from eagle rock, and more than a mile in roaring river which explains the wood stacked up. Friday when Randy and I was fishing the current was going the right direction and strong.
  19. Wow that's very strange. I hope to get this end of the lake figured out someday. It's just different from the rest of Table Rock. To me anyway. It's probably time I relented and got more serious with finesse fishing. Under normal conditions the rivers are good to me but I know there is some good mainlake deep fishing that I'm missing out on.
  20. One more post and I'm through lol. Another thing I saw was up in roaring river a couple bends the wood was so thick you could walk on it. I'm guessing the rebounding water stacked it back up instead of it floating out like it normally would.
  21. I assume if beaver stops letting out into table rock it would also cause the same affect correct? The reason I ask is they stopped generating for a while Sunday morning.
  22. Ah ha! I mentioned that idea to my bosses this morning. Basically it's rebounding. I imagine that doesn't help much. It was a pretty strong current. Enough that it was slick calm but the current was carrying my boat with it and you could see it on the trees. This was in the owl creek area on main lake.
  23. I saw you running around some a few times over the weekend. It was definitely a tough weekend. For me anyway.
  24. Good report. From the sounds of it I wasn't alone in my struggles this weekend. Just curious, what boat were you in?
  25. If everything would have got in the boat it would have been substantially better but still slow. We lost several topwater fish. I fished a lot of water I've never messed with. Just stuff I found idling. The cool part is I found some foundations and brush piles. I just spent to much time messing around and not enough time fishing confidence areas. Today I noticed something kinda odd. Most places I went there was a backward current. I thought it was eddying at first but the places didn't seem like the right locations for it. It was very strong also. Maybe it was just eddying after all.
