  1. Don't let the weather forecast this far out affect your plans.... everything changes within a few hours here in Missouri. Keep your eye on a local radar and regional or state radar the morning of to get somewhat of an idea as to what the next several hours might be like or if storms are developing and from what direction, anticipated path, and approx idea as to what time..... As a final note, use caution and have a plan and or equipment if storms or high waters should develop, But don't let a few pop up showers affect your plans....get off the river and out of anything aluminum if lightning begins.
  2. Has anyone fished the spring at Onondaga Cave State Park? The spring I am referring to is located at the base of the cliff below the parks main office and main cave entrance. It can be accessed through the campground entrance road. Would anyone know if fishing is even allowed in this part of the park? If some of the vegetation was dredged out of the larger pool below the spillway and a few deeper pools were created it would have potential for a small trout park.... Possibly could provide another trout and smallmouth fishing opportunity for the State Park system someday..... It was hardly noticeable to park visitors until several years ago when the park office was moved and modernized and the campground access road was re-routed off the top of the hill. Before that the spring was inaccessible except for a foot trail from the campground to the spring at the base of the cliff. Most cave visitors never see this part of the park.
  3. The data is out there.. just talk to a reputable commercial roofing company..most large scale commercial roofs are going to white or silver.
  4. Praying for some soaking cold rains to quench the grounds thirst.
  5. Does anyone remember a trout fishing campground named 'Valley Springs in missouri? This would have been in the 1980's. I'm trying to figure out where it was and if it still exists as a campground. Please inform.. thanks.
  6. Hot and extremely dry up here in st Louis too. Hit 108 a few days ago. 7 days in a row above 100 deg mark thus far. Praying for rain as even the corn crops are wilting and turning brown already.
  7. Take a look at the first post. It clearly mentions a tax or fee on rentals on our streams. What stream section do you float? Every stream I have ever waded or floated in this state has had a good share of litter on the shores on the bottom and in the vegetation. Its not nearly as common in streams out west. Then again it seems folks are a bit more respectful to their resources out there and the enforcement isn't needed as much because the higher cost and fewer craft keeps the trashy folks out. But I too am all for additional volunteers for stream teams...maybe those convicted of littering on the rivers could be put to work.....
  8. I would support a moratorium or limit on the number of boatcraft including boats kayaks rafts canoes etc on any mo river creek or stream. Sorry to those who make their living on the rentals but they obvoiusly have proven over the course of many years they cant handle the large crouds or police the exceedingly large capacities anymore. A daily use fee should be put in place similar to proven sucess stories of the national parks and many other states recreational sites. Afterall it is for the preservation and the future of the natural resource and for future generations. Most can at least afford a few dollars for beers on the trip why cant they chip in a few dollars to pay for their party cleanup and pollution. Has elliot davis planted a bad seed in our brains that we may have everything for free?
  9. Here's just an idea.. make it a federal offense or biological terrorism with a min 50000 fine to have any nonnative fish within 1000 yards of a freshbody of water... then offer rewards and provide enforcement. Don't allow lawyers or attourneys to reduce minimum fines in a court of law.
  10. If guns are taken away then its knives next. After that its clubs. Crlminals would still have all three as they do not follow the law to begin with. Guns are not the problem. Unlawful and uneducated people are the problem.
  11. Ditch the treble hooks power bait corn salmon eggs and try the sport like a real man. On second thought stay in the parks because we don't need your additional litter out in the woods.
  12. Has anyone else viewed the bald eagles nest above cardiac? I'm all for eagles but hope their not cleaning out the trout!
  13. Wish there were more small cold trout creeks nearby. Where was the nearest access area? Ive spent some time driving and on google earth and have come up with a possible access by bridge. Private street names proximity suggest a nearby bridge? Is this county land or private? I'm hesitant to try without knowing who's property it is and if county police will ticket or arrest for being in someones creek. Please advise. You may directly email or message me if you are willing to share info. Weekend warrior catch & release only fly fisherman.
  14. Bait fishing can clean out a place in no time.
  15. A bright green may unfortunately be antifreeze or sewer district tracing dye or mosquito poison. Either way i wouldnt want to be wade fishing or touching the water directly.
  16. Retype or copy and paste to notepad first. Then copy and paste to a new post.
  17. The problem is more Atvs on this planet and in the hands of the untrained or irresponsible.
  18. Looking to buy old wood canoe or boat paddles in any condition. Send reply to this post.
  19. Water is almost always a little high and murky or muddy on the meramec after a days rain. My 30 years experience with this river above onandoga cave says if its muddy its not worth it. Either to dangerous or just poor fishing conditions. Head upstream to the after rains or wait till water levels drop to near normal and clear. Head downstream during the summer and several days of rain free weather should clear up the water a bit. This time of year the water fluctuates quickly and flash flooding occurs regularly. Check the weather reports for upstream areas before you go. Most of all have fun but be smart about it and don'tgo if itsmuddy or moving swiftly even with a life jacket and excellent swimming skills.
  20. Most people I know who are experienced trained divers stay out of the meramec this close to st. Louis for two major reasons. The first being the high fecal matter and ecolli content this close to an urban area. The second being the low visibility in the water itself. Its an high risk river even for the most sober trained person to handle.
  21. A young man drown at castlewood today. He was wading and swimming. The fire Dept even stated the river is extremely dangerous in this section. The post dispatch reports at least 8 drown at castlewood since 2006. So these are not scare stories folks. These are just the facts and statistics. So beware of the danger and use your best judgement. Know that this is the deadliest section of the river based on factual evidence and numbers.
  22. Undoubtedly, the Black river is extremely clear. The surrounding topography and geology is nearly all rock, keeping sediment to a minimum and acting as nature's filter. The river is located near Taum Sauk Mountain, the highest point in elevation in Missouri. Many other streams in the state run through small stretches of bottomland, woodlands or farmland which deposit trace amounts of soil.
  23. The class III trailer hitch receiver extender is available at Harbor Freight..... It works well hauling 16' lumber, has height adjustments and has attachment loops for rope or bungie cords. Not as professional or protective as a Thule or roof rack, but will certainly get the job done for the shorter trips, and easier to load/unload.
  24. Natures Recreations in St. Louis works with rocks nearly that size.... plan to spend a fortune, as it will require a large crane, tractor trailer and or a trackhoe excavator to place a rock that size in place... Construction companies around your area may be equipped to work with that kind of weight.
