HDS-5 on the front of my boat and I use it for the GPS and Sonar 95% of the time. Gps is to keep me on a spot without having to drop a buoy and Sonar is all you need to fish. I do on occasion flip on the sidescan but it is purely done to look around and see if there is fish off to the sides or another piece of structure ( I could do it by walking to the back unit but sometimes its simpler to flip it on, on the front unit ) So I would suggest a unit with the GPS / SONAR split screen option, beyond that for what you are wanting nothing else needed.

Very nice day Terry, they have been frustrating me lately mostly because I refuse to go where you been playing, I know they have to be where im at. my pigheaded tendency might be broke down and ill have to go down there.

From a Yak with Brooders, Let one out on a free-line 100 ft back and one on a split shot line 50 ft back. Its simple fishing.

Its been an weird bite for them this year. My belief is many went up the creek arms more than the river this year and that's what I am hearing from many people. Its happened before and as one old timer told me at the ramp earlier ( The only things for sure about white bass is they swim they bite and they eat mighty fine )

Definitely have a Flag on the Yak for safety Launch at 12 bridge and work your way to Bear island then to the NW corner of Deer Island. Use brooder minnows and you should lock in to one. DO NOT do it on the weekend for safety sake please.

Introducing Trophy Anglers Guild
Feathers and Fins replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
Clay I like the idea but my biggest concern is Many of the fish you listed people like to eat and can always say they released it and not be telling the truth. How are you going to verify that? Wouldn't it be easier just to enter the fish and not worry about what they did after. It would suck if you DQed a person who landed a monster rainbow but it expired and could not be released like the one that was recently caught, or a guy who wanted to eat a fish. The idea is good but I think you will lose people at the CNR /CPR aspect of it. -
They are my last ditch bait, I much rather get them throwing Keitechs or Rattle traps.

I was north of there today.... Crappie and stripers bit but no walleye and I tried using worms even.

Glen its a Government thing Hospitals and DR's have to report it to the CDC, Never understood it but they do. Ya blaze I can understand it, you would be surprised how many life time people down there cant tell one snake from another, when I did nuisance removal I cant count how many times I got called for a cottonmouth and it was anything but a cottonmouth. I think in 6 years doing it I actually had 1 legitimate cottonmouth, funniest was "coral snakes" 90% of the time it was a scarlet kingsnake. I did so enjoy them I could resale those for upwards of 100 bucks or more.
-
Hey Blaze, I can tell you wrong belly coloration wrong head form for that to be a cottonmouth. I collected HUNDREDS from Okeechobee and that is a brown water snake which I collected thousands of and yes they love shiners. Another misidentification it will never cease to amaze me how every snake is a cottonmouth, copperhead or rattlesnake and die because of it. I made a business off reptiles for years and for every true venomous I would find I would find 500 non-venomous. The only place I know of venomous outnumbered non-venomous was in my house

Bill Would Limit MDC and Non-Profits
Feathers and Fins replied to rFisherk's topic in Conservation Issues
Every time it seams I some bill come up lately this Guy is on it someplace. He obviously has a Beef with MDC why doesn't one of the organizations start a recall petition against him ? It would seam to me that with the amount of people who love the outdoors in Mo it wouldn't be hard to remove a guy like this. -
I would be more concerned about getting in an accident on the way to and from fishing, than being bit by a snake I would be more concerned about stopping for a drink or food and being in a robbery on the way, than being bit by a snake. I would be more worried about losing my footing there and falling breaking a bone or neck, than being bit by a snake. The odds of all the above are far greater than being bitten by a snake. Most snake bites in this country are by people messing with the snake and the majority of those bites are by people under 25 and or there is alcohol involved. As to a snake chasing people LMFAO ONLY 1 snake is known and proven to do that and we do not have Black Mambas running around the Ozarks. If cottonmouths were so bad no one in the entire state of Florida would ever go fishing or outside for that matter.

Got Family down there my answer is © all the above.

I just have to wonder if there is some law that could get a sheriff to come out cite and tow. I see it happen every-do-often and would be more than happy to make the call. I launch alone and take out alone often and at most Im in and out in no more than 5 minutes. Monte ne ramp when its low maybe 6 minutes stupid tilt the last few feet of it. But as aggravating as the above picture is there is still nothing more aggravating than the Pontoon boat who has to load everything once they back down the ramp and I mean kitchen sink and granny's walker. I timed one last year for giggles 47 minutes blocking one lane. This is one where Rangers really need to walk down ( not sit in truck watching ) and tell them either launch it or pull it out but get off the ramp.

depthfinder help - serious newbie questions
Feathers and Fins replied to hoglaw's topic in Beaver Lake
What I typically do when setting up someones sonar for them is go to a area I know very well as to the types of structure. I will dial in the DI and SC unit first on the default color. Once its fine tuned to pick up a tick-turd I proceed to switch over to traditional sonar again using the default setting and dial it in to pick up fish by the size. The latter is more difficult and why I like doing it for crappie as they are fast to bite and I can gauge the size by whats caught then hover over the school and adjust it to the point its only picking up fish in the 12'' range or larger to weed out small fish and bait fish. The main console unit is for finding structure, bait and fish and the bow mount is for fishing suspended fish. I also heavily use my aquavu to verify what im seeing plus fishing to verify size. Takes about 2 to 4 hours as a rule to dial things in and then a couple hours explaining. Here is a shot I took last week. I verified everything with Camera and Catching ( Crappie were 12 to 14'' ) Original shot unedited Edited for easy of understanding -

Don't Get Mad. Get Even!
Feathers and Fins replied to rps's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
HDS 5 structure scan unit transducer. if I remember right like 4 wires wire sleeve and then plastic cord. Put the connectors to the wires caulked over then caulked up the wire and ran the shrink tube up so when I heated it, it would be water proof. -

Ya that Rock at Larue is a favored of mine as is the pass, I cant help but to chuckle when someone tries to go through it even though every map shows it to be a hazard area. There is a nasty little hump just past ventris I have seen claim a few lower units. -

I really have to shake my head and laugh and same time want to punch someone out. Some of my best sources for quail spots were those cops and I would in turn share dove and rabbit spots. FREE RANGE Lmao it was simply called being a kid back then. I knew my butt better be home before the street lights or porch lights came on. I never wore a helmet on my bike and I have many scars from falling out of trees, broken arm from jumping out of a swing and numerous other injuries. Hell I spent more time in the Dr's office growing up from self inflected injuries got to the point he could guess if I was fishing, hunting, bike riding or tree climbing. Even complemented me on a stitch job I did when I cut my leg open gutting a rabbit ( knife slipped ). Todays Abuse was yesterdays Kids being kids and parents letting us learn from our mistakes.

And as a side note but relevant I hear today about ( Free Range Kids ) I had to look it up and just shook my head after. HELL All my friends and I were that growing up, Then again before I could drive I would ride my bike to go hunting gun strapped on the handle bars and all the cops would do is pull me over to see how I did and many times give me a ride home same for fishing trips and even had a knife on my side.
