Question Non-Fishing
Feathers and Fins replied to Feathers and Fins's topic in General Angling Discussion
Small, your talking about Liquefaction zones. I know FEMA has been throwing a big fit in cali about that and a bay area town, Stupid to build in those zones. I watched several houses back in the 90s literally slowly sink into the ground no one could predict those zones back them with any accuracy. Thank God technology has improved to where it can be detected now, to bad stupidity hasn't been improved though. -
Sun Blistering... is that what they call it now when you hit Beaver Skeeters doing 35mph.

Marty!!!!!!! You are making me very jelous this off season.

I like what some of the ramps in Florida started doing... 5 minute tie-up to ramp maximum and enforced it. I was watching a Party Barge Sunday that had 10 people for it.. they launched tied up and then went and parked the truck. Then they started going to and from the truck bringing gear down from the parking lot... Ties up an entire dock side and the rug rats on the dock were making it hard for people to get off and on... Why they couldn't have had one of the other adults pull it out and motor over to the shore is beyond me. Heck put No fishing from dock signs on them and 5 minute tie-up and stick a ranger on it with those rules in play from 6am to 6pm and I bet ACE makes enough money to keep all the parks open and do some nice improvement work off the fines.

Question Non-Fishing
Feathers and Fins replied to Feathers and Fins's topic in General Angling Discussion
California residents have insurance just like the rest of us should. They also have some of the strictest building codes in the Nation if not World that force the structures to be built to withstand the Earthquakes. That said there is a big difference between people who live in an area where a risk is present vs people who live in an area they KNOW beyond doubt ( high risk ) that a disaster will happen and does frequently. NJ has had 106 hurricanes impact them in one form or another since record keeping in 1804 that's 1 every 2 years basically. Its not Rocker Science Eric, its common since NOT to build in a flood zone. Earthquake are also a more or less localized disaster similar to a tornado where a Hurricane is a Massive Scale event that can cover thousands of miles. It is not hard to understand a storm producing inches of rain for up to 2 days is going to cause flooding. We can build infrastructure to try and protect against mother nature and water but 30 years this may in construction as taught me one thing water will ALWAYS find a way to get into someplace. All it takes is one man made lock, or spillway or levee to fail and water will find you. Comparing any disaster to water is like comparing and Cherry to a Watermelon. Of all the disasters I have worked water is always the biggest destroyer. Even a house fire unless its a total burn down the most damage is done by the water the fire fighters use. -
Question Non-Fishing

Yes I did and thats why I asked him.. Al hit on it pretty good but allow me to go in to more detail. I have worked in Restoration Construction my entire Adult life and understand them pretty good. 1st you can prepare by building for them that gives a person a better chance of survival and property loss minimalization such as Miami Dade Building Code and California Earthquake codes both are designed to aid in reducing structural damage. I witnessed them both work well in person. You can protect against wildfire by buidling and by proper clearing of debris from your property as well seen that in person as well so i know it works. I also know that for Insurance YOU pay your own insurance premiums and deductibles. But in Flood insurance WE THE TAXPAYER pay for that The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) oversees the flood insurance program. its rewarding people in a way for building in flood zones. There are maps after maps that show those zones and Building in High risk zones is utter stupidity and should not be allowed as when the disaster hits it burdens the taxpayers ( thats you and me ). Yes many natural disasters happen and can ANYPLACE PEOPLE LIVE! However buidling and insuring in areas where there is ZERO doubt it will happen frequesntly is just simply foolish. Hurricanes are massive storms and when they hit the emergency management teams know the danager areas by those maps its not a secret! A twister can be from a few hundred feet wide to a mile wide and is NOT predictable as to where and when they hit its risk is minimal and covered by the insurance YOU pay for. Here look for yourself http://nationalatlas.gov/mapmaker?AppCmd=CUSTOM&LayerList=hur198%3B14&visCats=CAT-climate,CAT-tropicalcyclones doesnt take a 3rd grader to figure out someone is going to get hit frequently. -

These were local media's i was hearing it on. Justin Im with you, Sorry but you build on a "BARRIER" Island or the shore WTH do you think will happen when a major storm does come and one will sooner or later. Personal Opinion is the Goverment should make it illegal to build on "Barrier islands" Hello people the first word should tell you something there. And if the goverment wont then I do not think Insurance should be provided to them, let me make it clear ( flood insurance ) because guess who pays for that. There comes apoint when sympathy for people goes right out the window. You cannot predict a tornado or wildfire or even an earthquake, you can build and do maintenance to try and protect when they happen BUT when you build in an area that you KNOW a hurricane will sooner or later hit, well " you cant fis xtupid " but we shouldnt pay for stupid either -
if you launch at the 12 bridge go under it south and its the first flats aka houses after the bluff wall. see my last weeks report for a map of it.

You are correct RPS.

Ive been hearing on the News all day about Super Storm Sandy and how hard it is to recover and how many are still not home and how gubberment needs to do more. Why is it we hear this crud from all the big city's but... Joplin gets hit and destroyed and pretty much the news on it was done after a few weeks. Is it because Joplin is a success story where people came together and did what had to be done maybe? Sorry just bothers me to hear these big cities cry like babies with all the gubberment money given to them and then drive through Joplin and see one house and one business after another back up and people working hard and not complaining.

Hey even an old dog gets lucky on occasion and I got lucky that day, its not like I hammer them every time out.

I open bail to my baits letting them sit free floating and mark on the graphs bottom where I let them out when it gets to a point I set the bail it takes some getting use to, take into account for the angle but when you do it right you know when to expect the bite. for instance I know if im trolling at 2.5mph the bait has to be back 140 feet to be at 22 fow and at the left of my graph. Same set-up at 1.5 mph it will only dive to 15 fow and be about 3/4 of the way across it. A lot of the learning curb was hitting snags... different speed I would hit the snag. After a few times I learned I could actually with line counter reels become very precise with where on my graph the bait would contact the mark for each speed and bait I use. You will loose a lot of lures doing it unless you remove the hooks. I seriously need to write a trolling article lmao.

doo,, you care like Doc said... many of these fools I have seen time and time again. One couple is so dangerous at the ramp ( and ive tried to talk to them ) that if I see them I fish the back of PC ramp cove till they are gone. He is a big mouth loud music know-it-all who wont listen to anyone, im waiting for him to put his boat over the trailer and into his trucks bed.

I don't like crawlers lol, simple as that and im looking for aggressive biters not finicky ones.
-
This is why I avoid Hickory Creek lol... The only thing that normally gets me to say something is the DUI screaming at his wife that's when Papa's upbringing come out and I say something. Never speak to a lady like that! Never had an issue because there are normally 20 or 30 other big rednecks around who give the DUI the look of ( you look like something im about to stomp in the mudholes ) People need to respect their wives / girlfriends... Man that gets my blood boiling.

Its a weird year bro kinda like the bass I threw you on at PC, making heads or tails of a pattern that is holding this year is hard. But one thing im noticing is its there but just moving in FOW this year more than most. I haven't put up the Flickers yet and that is strange by now im trolling keitechs in 4 to 6fow and then picking the area apart for walleye but this year they are staying deep. Stripers have been all over not super concentrated. Don't get me going on crappie I think WC is still hogging all the keepers.

no better gift than that from the kids... Nice fish as well.

1.5 to 2.5 yesterday I had to go 2.5 to get the bite. You have to play with it a bit. Start in shallow and work you way out at slow speed and then speed up till you get the right speed down.
-
If your looking to just play in new territory do Starky... If your looking for fish go to beaver shores and 12 birdge/island area.... cant comment on RR Arm havent been over there in a few months.

While waiting at the ramp to unload yesterday I kept thinking to myself ( This could be a reality show ) When I came into Prairie Creek there were two boats trying to get on the trailer. I docked up went and got in my truck and waited 20 minutes in line before I could load up. They were still fighting to get loaded when I pulled out. Do people really think putting the trailer all the way in the water so the hitch is even in and then running the boat up to it is how to load. I had to watch it was like NASCAR you know you watch for the wrecks! Anyway they would start to pull up and the boat would go off center one way then the next then back I just kept laughing i couldnt go help this was to funny. Both were Wake/Ski boats with nice roll on trailers which was even funnier when i saw them. I really am not sure where these people learn to trailer but it has to be SNL or a Boating for Dummies book. I have been boating most my life and rule one was to learn the sweet spot on the trailer so you only put enough of it in the water so you can drive right up on it latch up and go. Even Ocean fishing and fighting the St Lucie Inlet ramp with a roaring tide this was not hard. It is a pet peave of mine when people tie up a lane and a half and mess around 20 to 30 minutes when so many are trying to load and unload. So I am curious to what others think. Also amuzing stories would be fun it is Monday after all.
