Jeb I just got back from a looky see at the lake from the 12 bridge and its whitecap city on the water. PC didnt look as bad, Im not putting my boat out today just no need to play in the wind IMO, Besides the tackle boxes need to be cleaned and the rods all need new line so its a good day to get things back in order.

Im going to chime in here a bit. I started fishing long before the super-lines came out. I remember when Spider Wire came out and everyone including myself was buying it and using it. I never really liked it but as each braid came out I tried them looking for a line I could settle on as being equal to or superior to Mono. Then came along the fluorocarbons lines and I tried them out and found they were superior to Mono and IMO superior to Braid. Here is why, using braid you need to tie a leader on in many situations! You do not need to with fluorocarbon. Some argue Braid is more sensitive yet I have talked to many and include myself in this that if you have a trained finger or sense of feel Fluorocarbon is a sensitive line as well. The only major advantage I have ever found to Braids is you can use a high breaking strength line with a smaller diameter to help pull fish out of cover. For me and this is just me mind you, I like to fight a fish and give it advantages, I just do not understand using line so powerful you can water ski a fish across the water. To me fishing is about testing the skill not just in lure selection and presentation but in the battle that occurs after all that. Fluorocarbon gives me invisibility and sensitivity and the ability to play a fish with it having the advantages. So when looking at Lines I think its important to decide what you are wanting to do. Catch fish with a sporting advantage or just catch fish and put them in your hands for pictures?

Did someone say Hybrid and Striper ? lol. The forecast for today looks to be dangerous but if it clears up at all Im going to go give them a shot. Anyone going out today keep your cell phones handy and keep an eye on the weather and for gods sake if your boat will not handle dont go out no fish is wourth dieing over.

Quill, I was talking with a few friends today and most of us agreed with what you said yesterday. SNIFF SNIFF NCAA is probably why he got the Axe. We all said if Long admitted that the affair/inappropriate relationship/ whatever it was. As Long said was none of their business and the only other thing was he helped her get a job without telling anyone ( common in business ) then why was he really let go. And we pretty much all said the NCAA had something to do with this some way. If not just the fear of the mighty and all powerful NCAA looking at the school.

Not to FORDS CREEK and past Ventris. Big area I know but they are scattered though the area. Stripers are on the spring topwater. Last night it was right at last light. I am going back out tonight to meet up with some trouble makers that rumor has it have fly rods and a desire to attemp the Linesides.

I saw it lol. looked like a road trip getting read to happen. I notice the media is now changed the toon from inferring adultry to just a innapropriate relationship with a supervisor and staff member.

I dont havre time this morning to discuss your entire post Tim but i will this evening. But to answer your last question. Possibly not COKES but Stripers would provide a estimated 16 to 20 million dollars to the economy based off other states findings in their stocking of those fish. 4 conservation officers would cost the state and estimated 320 thousand dollars. The stocking would supply the money for the four officers so My answer would be Stock the fish and higher the wardens. You sound like many biologist ive dealt with in the past who are so worried about making the wrong choice they dont make a choice. The white seabass hatcheries in cali are a prime example, numerous biologist were terrified of doing it for possible disease and other unknow reprocushins and yet now people are catching seabass again and the population is increasing and many are touting it as a success. And yet a few are still saying it will destroy the wild fishery. Sometimes you have to pull the trigger and make the hard choices.

I couldnt take sitting on my duff one more day spider bite be darn. I headed out to the lake and went in search of something anything as long as it pulled my line. Got on the lake about 4:15 and headed for the clean water, found it east of Ventres and started looking for fish. I ran into some large schools of Gar and with a fly pole in the boat and some of Duckys flies I went after them. Pulled of 5 of these guys before I went looking for other fish. I found some stripers and whites. Not bad size stripers were puching the mid-teens and the whites were about a pound each. Did get a couple decent hybrids to go with them up to about 10 pnds. All in all not bad for 4 hours.

LOL. I go by the U all the time.. Ive seen Dickson on Friday night. Im thinking parents who think the kids are googy goodies and nned a role model need to go for a night out on Dickson. Or just drive by on RUSH week. But its the (We need to protect everyone from themselves world)
-
not like he was abusing little kids, or crashed his car off a bridge and killed someone or well I think you get the idea. Peoples personal lives really need to off limits. Now if it was happening on the job or affecting a persons job for the negative then its his employers duty to act. Heck wasnt there a man who was President who had a little oopsy on a blue dress and people still love him and think he was the best.

Man Im just waiting to hear what really happened not some Media spin on the truth. What will happen if all the sudden details come out that show Bobbys wife and family knew he was out on a ride with this girl and it was nothing more than two co-workers out having fun and then an accident happend. I will tell you what. NOTHING the Media will say ooppss and the people condeming him wont say sorry. I am really getting sick of the media and its crap anymore blowing things out of proportion without all the facts. If he did something wrong fine let the UofA deal with him but only after the facts are known. If not then alot of people owe the man a huge appology.

Ex, How hard were you laughing when you tried typing that ? lol
-
LOL. I always laughed when i saw the small dog missing signs up (especially) when it said Last seen playing in a back yard on Lake "whatever"! You just had to sit there and go REALLY. You cant figure out your toy dog was a snicker bar for Walley Heck half the times the signs were posted under the BEWARE OF ALLIGATOR signs on the road which made it even funnier.

Tim you and I both know that a sustainable fishery is the goal of all DNR’s where possible. And where human population hasn’t gone out of control it works. Some species are listed as unsustainable by natural reproduction because of specific requirements, thus requiring breeding facilities to replenish the stock AKA Stocking programs. Many people don’t fish waters such as the one you pointed out purely because of pollutants and warnings not to eat fish. Again this goes back to Human impact on the fishery both in Population and other. It’s not evil or wrong to give anglers a chance at species that would not typically be native to their home waters. If research shows the impact will be minimal or nothing. Science is all too often thought of evil because of what it discovers with newer technology. You can’t blame the best technology of one day for what is discovered years down the road. Yes there have been some mistakes but there has also been a lot of good. All anyone can do is make a determination based off the current knowledge and findings. Hybridized fish are a very good alternative, If they are unable to breed and stocked for the pure enjoyment of anglers is not a bad thing. Frankenfish as some anglers call them are a fish of a lifetime to others. The weekend warrior who wants to catch a BIG fish doesn’t care about the biology involved or the science and research. They want to catch a big fish for pictures and bragging rights or to eat. Those weekend warriors outnumber those who have a true background in marine biology and the ecosystems. You can scream and yell and kick your feet all you want but their voices are very loud to the DNR’s. There are fish that could do well in our lakes and that is where I would support them as those lakes were not native to start with and the construction of them forever changed the ecosystem of the river that was darn up to build them. Take advantage of those lakes and give the anglers chances at monsters in them. But do not mess with the untouched waterways. It is an argument that can be made to a DNR. You can only win so many battles and you need to pick which ones you can. I am not saying not to try to make your voice heard on the others but some you will not win and all you can do is point out why it’s a bad idea and hope for the powers that be to listen. But if you are willing to “GIVE” alternatives instead of taking a hard-line approach you win more battles. The alternatives are saving the native waters by giving on the reservoir impoundments. Yes I understand you may lose a little on the rivers and creeks that feed them and their tributaries, but the effects can be managed with control structures. It’s not a perfect world and with so many different groups involved the DNR will weigh the best solutions and if one with minimal impact but high potential for return on the investment is offered they tend to go with that on. Stocking programs are funded by anglers and boaters and so on by taxes and fees. So a DNR “being a business” if shown where the best return is will go with it.

Wayne you owe me a new keyboard i just spit coffee all over mine.

Tim, if by your reasoning then there should be NO Trout,Hybrids,Stripers,Musky, Walleye and the list goes on. Heck we could say all the big Resevoirs shouldnt be here even. They are all invasives if you want to get down to the bottom line. Roads, Houses and shopping malls are all invasive as well. The car you drive the boat you ride in the plants in your garden. Anything NOT native shouldnt be here is I am reading you right. The greatest invasive species is MAN. There are species found way outside of their native range and have nothing to do with stocking programs or pets getting loose they hitched a ride on a Plane, Train or automobile. It is going to happen! Yes I know the arguements that DNR's should be more careful and I fully know they have made some mistakes but at the time they were using the best Science possible at that time to make the choice they did. I wont fault them for mistakes they made using the best knowledge they had at the time. They pulled the trigger and did it. I have seen people at work who were so afraid of risk they lost jobs, thre is a time when you have to use the best information possible and take a gamble or there will never be progression. So we have these man made resevoirs now, Why not stock them with fish that will help the economies around them and give pleasure to anglers? The worlds population is increasing daily why shouldnt science be creating fish that could help feed the people and possibly in doing so reduce the need for wild harvest. Science isnt always a evil demon.

Yorky isnt a good pattern for gator. Pommerainian<sp> and Siamese <sp> are the to prime patterns with other small mammals working pretty well. Serious story, I had some people move in next to me in FL they had 5 Poms and let them out one day came home from work and they were "missing" they put up flyers all over the place and finally went door to door ASKING IF ANYONE had seen their dogs. When they hit my house I told them "Walley had see them" They asked who Walley was and I pointed to the 10ft gator sunning itself in their back yard! Its one of those "DUH" moments. You move to FL you have a swamp in your backyard and you let your feeders er little dogs run right along the shore, What do you think will happen? I went out on numerous calls for gators in yards and when you get there the hosue has a pond, canal or lake behind it with no fence.

True on egg temp deciding sex but also possible depending on the nest that the temps would be enough to create male and female. If they actually became climated to our area I would suspect females to nest later than in the south and then we could have a population. There is evidance of some snakes that were thought to only be able to live in the subtropical climate to be able to survive further north than previously thought. its possible for gators to survive up here or more so in the lower part of the state anyway.
