  1. Stump, I was I suppose like most at one time thinking of them as a trash fish with no value at all. I had a friend back in Cali that cooked me some one night and boy was it good. I figured anything that good needed to be added to the menu. I started like most with dough baits then found out they liked a fly and natural progression took over and I put them very high on my catch list. Cooking list they are low because of how much prep time is needed not because of flavor though. I keep one or two a year kinda like Gar, I like them but the cleaning time is longer than I want to mess with most nights. Still very few fish compare to ( Look Downs ) dam things are as good as I have ever had.
  2. You know one Sunday night we will have to go play MAD CHEF and find out.
  3. carp is actually sweeter to me so I would bet they would be better in egg rolls I would guess
  4. Ham, I cant help myself to many years Saltwater fishing and when I see tailing fish the little monster in me comes out something about sight fishing tailing fish that drives me crazy... The Keitechs were what I had available I haven't put the flyrod in the boat yet or I would have been throwing a fly at them.. Gar will be next on the target list for a fly if the water keeps warming up like it has been.
  5. Actually the walleye is soaking for tomorrow night and carp number#2 has been ground 5 times and is seasoning for carpburgers and taco's 1. Ground up carp 5 times minimum 2. place carp in large bowl 3. Add, 2 tablespoons curry, 1 table spoon powdered red pepper, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon onion powder 4. mix with hand for 5 minutes 5. Place ball in fridge and rotate it top to bottom every 6 hours for 24 hours. make hamburger to taco with it.
  6. With family in town I got a late start today, did not even launch until 10:30 and headed right for Beaver Shores. The fish have moved out to deeper water with the bright sun 20 to 25 fow but the fish were suspending from 22 to 12 under shad balls. The small stocker stripers have moved in, I am talking 1 to 2 pounds max and were a nuisance I caught probably 60 of the dang things. The first Walleye came at 2:20 pm and the second at 2:35pm Both were on a wide swing into 35fow I was running the #7 flicker shad in Pearl White 140ft behind the boat. Walleye #3 and 4 came at 3:00pm dead on both rods went off and trying to keep them separate was interesting to say the least I ended up having to put the boat in gear and prey the second didn't wall off while I was landing the first. All went well and both were in the boat. I kept trolling for awhile and picked up a few decent 2 to 2.5 pound whites and 5 more walleye. All walleye were between 22 and 26 inches interestingly 3 of them coughed up small Kentuckies 5'' size and when cleaning one tonight it had a Smalle Kentucky and a small walleye in its gut. The marks on the Fat right accounted for the double hook-up. I have my line out to boat speed so I know where on the graph the line will meet the fish. These were those pesky stripers. These were the Whites that found a shad ball The one the bottom left was the first walleye I snapped the shot right as the rod went off. He had found the Restaurant. First Walleye of the day. Later in the day I had seen some splashing going on in a cove and thought it might be some whites or hybrids and took a little drive over to it. Then I saw tailing fish and knew right away they were big carp. The saltwater fisherman in me started getting excited so I tied on a Keitech and quitly drifted into some buckbrush where my boat would sit and make not noise. I started pitching it out in front of them and slowly bringing it back and ended up catching 7 nice carp sight fishing them like redfish or bonefish and on 10lb they were a lot of fun. When opportunity presents itself never pass up a chance for any fish to pull on your line they are all good fish.

  9. Maybe but who knows.. I just checked and the lakes at .35 so she will be full pool today... I will be at Beaver Shores in a couple hours to investigate this full pool stuff lol. Curious if the walleye will be in the buck brush and if they would like to come home for dinner.

  11. Does anyone know the Criteria BASS uses to pick the lakes.. seems each time someone does one of these the lakes change and rankings switch around.
  12. It would be perfect for me. I use to love float tubing for fish but I don't dare do it around here because of the lack of safety and respect people show. There is nothing funner than being towed around by a big fish in a tube or for just relaxing or exercise.
  13. Always fly fished but didn't get serious till I was in my early 20's. I had a friend who owned a fly shop we got to talking one day about striper fishing the local lake. I was catching them pretty easily on a variety of baits and he said that he thought he could get them on a Fly. I kinda chuckled as it was not something being done in SoCal at the time but after a few months of trial error and screwing around he started producing good numbers and that got me going. From there the natural progression took me to the bone fish flats of Florida and backwaters for tarpon and its been an addiction now for 20 years. Ducky came up with a fly that has produced almost all of Beavers game fish last year and I sent it to friends in FL that have been catching Tarpon, Snook, Reds, Sails and Dolphin on it. I think about fly fishing sometimes as the purest form of fishing because the lures used in it are so universal you never know what will bite them and the casting has to be so perfect and silent on many days. It to me anyways just embodies fishing.

  15. Wrench I strongly disagree with you... When im running mine on side scan mode I can see bait balls 200ft either side of the boat and actually turn the boat to go to them. Before the technology you would NEVER have known they were there missing the chance at fish. Now you can see them and actually chart plot them for the next trolling path and maximize your odds of catching. I know without doubt it has increased my catch rate! Yes on the downscan I can see how people will hammer an area longer than they would have before because they see marks. However I have seen guys spend ungodly amounts of time on sight fishing as well, it is a matter of ( I CAN SEE IT, IT HAS TO BITE SOONER OR LATER). But the gadgets have helped and proven their worth many times over. Try telling a guy out fishing Tuna or Billfish the 360 scan furuno doesn't produce more fish.
  16. If I had a wish to come true it would be ACE to put in place no wake zones in the narrow creeks and river arms like from Holiday Island to the dam and other areas that are narrow. I get why dock owners get mad and I have been swamped myself by some of these wake makers. Courtesy and respect for others fails them and yes I know the law on being responsible for your wake but who is enforcing it? the invisible water patrol.
  17. Cabelas I believe has them.
  18. Quill the water was good Saturday from HSB to 12 Bridge. No idea what its like now.
  19. Nice pics for certain... but you forgot to turn on the gps
  20. No.. not yet lol... im still drooling over the shruuuummmmsss
  21. Duane that was payback for earlier this year lmao
  22. Join me a few times ill give you some pointers
  23. LMAO. Cant take the caster out of you. I know how that is it took me a long time to learn how to troll and drove me crazy doing it but now it gave me a very good tool for locating fish for casting and if they don't want casting its a way to keep them biting all day sometimes. It is after-all about catching lol. Believe me when I put those 5 rod holders on my boat it went against everything I knew but sure has increased the catching part.
  24. I was wondering if the bluebird day would mess it up.. but I still want full details. ANYWAY HERE IS THE AREA: BEAVER SHORES and here is the exact map I sent Doc
  25. Just waiting on Doc to give his report and I will be happy to show everyone where they are. But I told him I would give him the info first and let him at them.
