  1. DING DING DING We have a winner... Its a Biat just like any other Bait, They all have their uses and places to be used... Throw it in weeds, grass or pads and you will be making a salad, Throw it around timber or rocks and you will be making lake decoration, Pitch it under a dock and the cable monster and christmas trees and concrete blcks will eat it... This is an open water bait just like its big brother the Umbrella Rig! It has limitations and is not the end all be all bait...
  2. Jeb has them named, I bet he pulls up and puts one of them boxes in the water they called Flipper with and the bass come to him and say KISS ME KISS ME, lol... Anyway tomorrow will see me killing those evil Geese with the Bows and possibly throwing an A-RIG for stripers, Im thinking Horse Shoe bend and Montne area. Anyone seen any stripers or geese around those areas?
  3. Sounds liek you had fun even without birds and Good Company is worth full limits.
  4. Um Marty... DETAILS how did the hunt go
  5. Im no longer a resident of Missouri but seems a Resident should be able to write a letter to the states AG and ask them to clarify this law from the States stand point and then the author to send it on perhaps with signatures from concerned anglers to the MDC as a request to put in the Reg Booklet so we can carry it and in the event a LEO comes visiting because of a landowner we can show it to them to avoid problems while educating them so they can educate the land owners.
  6. CS, Look up SABIKI RIG, Ive used it many times for trout 3 and 5 hook rigs and its devestating on them.
  7. Hmmmmm.... lower Illinois 5 scuds 5 trout real fast.... switch out from scuds to hooks troll down river for stripers.... Hmmmmmm this has merit :)
  8. RPS. You made me think think back to when i first started throwing the big baits... I used 7' bass rods and paid dearly for it in guides being ripped off the tip of the rod, broken rods and a couple jump in the water to retrieve them from backlashes. I learned to go to the big saltwater rods they are built for this kind of abuse. Calstar is probably the best out there and I learned the lesson of you get what you pay for. I think it might just be that freshwater fishermen ( was in my case ) dont think about the salt ( even though i was die hard saltwater too) I just didnt put it togeather. Now everything I buy is designed for saltwater. I find it just makes the day better and easier on me.
  9. CONSERVATIONS BEST TOOL Nice pics and dogs
  10. Justin, i had issues like that with American Labs and their size. My little girl {left with the pheasant} is an English she weighs in at 50lbs and not near the problems of my brothers big male at 90lbs+. English are harder to find but great dogs.. she does well on all birds and loves geese.
  11. Chance, I have casted that many times a day at Bass using the monster bass lures. Maybe its just the area you fish and what the people are use to. In Cali for example Throwing large plugs and swim baits was just a way of life. At first they wore me out but after a few weeks it was just another day on the water... Do you think its just people are not use to this in other areas of the country as opposed to the Big Bass / Big Lure lake areas?
  12. I keep reading people saying they are heavy and hard to cast or wear you out fast. I have most my fishing life cast Heavy baits and lures and just am having a hard time understanding these comments. It is not unusual at all for me to be casting 2 to 8oz jigs all day long or deep diving lures that put alot of stress on the reel in. Maybe its just Saltwater and Stiper fishing for so long ive become use to it but was curious as to why people say it wears them out or is to heavy or hard. Here is one of my favorite Rod and Real combos for throwing big baits all day. Cal-Star GFGRALG-800XL, 8 foot rod, 10 AFTCO LIGHT roller guides with a fuji real seat rated at 10 to 25lbs line extra fast rod, I either use a Jigmaster 500 or a Calcutta reel with it and throws big baits all day easily. Now i admit that in throwing those baits I learned not to throw them all day and nothing area's but to use them on key targeted areas and move on to the next not just keep throwing to keep throwing. In the surf you may do this for several hours at bluefish and tarpon schools but have to put it down for awhile. So why is it so hard it seems?
  13. For me half the fun of Hunting is the Dog Work that goes with it. They just add so much to Hunting in general that its hard to imagine doing it without them. I thought I would share a few pics of what i mean. Training time is as much fun as the hunting. Well trained yes but not at all happy with me. 8000 snows and we aint shooting dad are you Crazy.. I know she was thinking that. The next two are just favorites of the two girls just intense as possible on birds They both do the deed on the other greenheads as well
  14. Al I for one would much preffer a solidified law outlining which ones are " public accessable " spelled out in the regs. I forget which state " i want to say Montana " had similiar issues and when they outlined it many land owners worked with the state to allow building of public parking lots and easways for people to actually gain access. The deffinitions would need to be clearly spelled out but shouldnt be to difficult and then a good solid law could come of it and hopefully a releationship between land users and land owners.
  15. Actually for a shotgun it depends on the game you pursue. Durring for instance regular waterfowl season 3 shells is the max a gun can hold this has to be accomplished by a plug in the tube to prevent it from holding more than 3. BUT durring the spring conservation order there is not limit on shells the gun can hold. Stupid law as you are only allowed ( regular waterfowl season ) 6 ducks so what does it matter how many hooks are in the gun? ooppss I mean Shells... Get the point all stupid laws come from someplace. I preffer to not be that someplace.
  16. 40lbs Mono or wire for a leader. Tie the bait on.. Make 8'' leader line with a loop in it and clip it on the rig.. real simple real easy to change out fast.
  17. I can think of several other rigs that use 3 or more hooks and several with multiple baits without hooks excluding the last on that has a hook. Not sure what point you are trying to make perhaps you can explain.
  18. That is a beautiful looking spot Marty, good shooting to it appears.
  19. Normal for me lol... Shouldnt be lacking ducks a couple of those pics were from up by you.... Now dry land = low water conditions so i can argue about ill be happy on big water as it will expose alot of mud flats and points much better... The tree rat is evil he kept laughing at us when we missed so a contract went out on him and a texas hitman took him out.
  20. Ok this thread has created more confusion that answers to me... Maybe its time to try and get the STATES AG to get togeather with MDC for a clear black n white defining of the law. Real simple if its a floatable / navigatable waterway is it legal to be in or around the water and banks below high water mark. Just put it in Black n White print once and for all.. In accordance with the ( Elder v Delcour ) the High courts ruling was simple The trial court determined the issues presented by the pleadings and declared the law respecting plaintiff's rights as follows: "That the Meramec River at the place in question and as described in the petition is public water and subject to travel by plaintiff and those who desire to wade it or to float down it in boats * * * that plaintiff has a legal right to fish in said stream subject to the regulations of the Missouri Conservation Commission and the Laws of Missouri * * *." The court declared that plaintiff had "the legal right to carry his boat around obstacles in the river where obstructions preclude the passage of his boat, subject to liability for damage he might inflict on defendant's property * * * (and) the legal right to tie up his boat or to camp on said stream as long as he uses the stream bed, gravel bars and clearly recognizable area over which the stream flows during its normal stages." The trial court further ordered "that defendant desist in his efforts to hinder or close such free passage up and down the said stream." This cleary needs to be spelled out in the Regulation Book it would make it simple to show Law Enforcement and Landowners, along with a list of, Rivers, creeks and stream etc covered so as no confusion could be made.
  21. Guys we are lucky here.. I was recently looking back to Cali and what it would cost me to fish there today as a resident. Resident Sport Fishing $44.85 Required for a resident 16 years of age or older to take fish, mollusks, crustaceans, invertebrates, amphibians or reptile in inland or ocean waters. Additional validations and report cards are required for certain species and areas. Ocean Enhancement Validation $5.14 Required for all persons taking fish in ocean waters south of Point Arguello (Santa Barbara County). An Ocean Enhancement Validation is not required when fishing under the authority of a One or Two-Day Sport Fishing License. Second Rod Validation $13.78 Required for all persons taking fish with two rods or lines in inland waters, except for waters in which only artificial lures or barbless hooks may be used. Colorado River Validation $3.09 Required for all persons taking fish from a boat or other floating device on the Colorado River or adjacent waters forming the California-Arizona border. Spiny Lobster Report Card $9.21 Required for all persons taking spiny lobster including persons who are not required to have a sport fishing license, such as persons who are under 16 years of age, persons who are fishing from a public pier and persons who are fishing on free fishing days. $76.07 is the final total. What is insane about that is I use to pay a whopping $28.00 when I lived there; there was no 2 rod stamp, lobster stamp, Colorado stamp. Talk about sticking to someone. I wish we as sportsmen both resident and non-resident had some way to influence the states to simply make the fee’s the same for res and nonres. Honestly if this was anything but hunting and fishing the States AG’s would undoubtedly be going after a business for Price Gouging. Because that is what it is.
  22. Trout and Tarpon Barbless , I found a good hook set and tension lands them... Bonefish, Permit, and Carp I kept the barbed hooks as they tend to try and rub in sand or rocks to dislodge it. Stripers and Snook always a barb dang things know how to extract a barbless hook. So i guess my answer is: it depends more on species and conditions. I should note for flyfishing for human i preffer barbless
  23. Go to Floridasporsmen.com and then to the South Florida section. There are alot of guys doing it there and might be some great pics and how-to's on it. Those guys have Yak fishing down to a science and some of the stuff they catch is unreal out of them. I have personaly seen guys in yaks hook and land Sailfish and Marlin. Good luck.
  24. Maybe Cs you don’t understand how horrible the wording is. Let me try and break it down for you and you might see why I feel the way I do about this petition. #1 Umbrella rigs, such as the Alabama Rig, are considered illegal in many states. So why would a tournament then allow the use of an “ILLEGAL” rig in the first place? This sounds in principle as if the signers are more requesting a ban on an already illegal fishing set-up! #2 They are not considered a single lure tied to a line, but multiple lures and/or hooks. This line is very disturbing as there are in fact multiple rigs used in both bait and lure fishing that uses “multiple lures and/or hooks”. This section IMO could allow for politics to come into play and potential bans by State’s and or even Pressure from those who would like to see sport fishing curtailed or eliminated to the States. People may not like the A-RIG! However by requesting a ban on multi- hook rigs is a open invitation to people already thinking of how to show and give lawmakers a reason to ban hunting and fishing or at minimum make the pursuit of fish and game more difficult. This says Hey Mr. Lawmaker ( the Pros aren’t behind it and it should be banned form fishing) #3 An umbrella rig is defined as an array of more than three artificial lures or baits (with or without hooks) used by a single rod and reel combination. This is a definition of many types of rigs used in fishing, as sportsmen, specifically fishermen we know what it is, but remove the word ( Umbrella ) and your left with “an array of more than three artificial lures or baits”. Not a far stretch for someone to go after all multi-rigs. #4 The use of this rig compromises the integrity of professional bass fishing and creates many other possible negative issues for the sport down the road. And this section is potentially the most damming of all with one simple word SPORT! The negative issues for the SPORT! The sport my friend is fishing and as such this petition is actually calling this rig and potentially other rigs, bad for the fishing. As I said earlier this needs to be decided by each tournament and or club.
