I talked to Les, he's bringing his smaller cooker which is all we need anyways looks like. I"ll bring some flathead to go with is crappie!
  2. I might still be in for this thing fellas, my wife found out today when she called with a question that it's and evaluation if she need surgery on not, so the actual surgery will be scheduled at later date, if it's after the weekend i'll plan on making a showing. When she found this out today she called me and insisted I go on the trip ( I love my wife ) . Anyhow, I wont know for sure until thrusday, wanna be sure in case they do it next day or something? I'll keep you updated.....Bret.
  3. Yes sir absolutely! Looking at the weather, I think ya'll may have pretty good weather for it if they don't change it...
  4. Thanks guys, I was really looking forward to it as always. we'll just see how she's doing Friday, I might sneak down Saturday? If I don't make it ya'll catch a big brown for me! and post pics!
  5. Hey guys, since last posted on here, my wife had an issue come up, that will require some surgery this coming Thursday. It's nothing to major, as they are suppose to send her home the same day, but I think she is going to be stove up a few days after. She has insisted I not miss the trip, but i'm thinking she's underestimating the pain she may have for a few days. If all goes well, I could possibly come down for the day Saturday as her Mom will be able to be here, but if she's not as well as she thinks i'll be staying here obvisoulsy.. So as far as the Friday night fish fry, I really don't think i'll be able to do that now as i'm not sure if I can make it all at this point until the time comes. So you fella's proabably need to plan something else for that night. I'll keep you updated if something changes. Thanks Bret.
  6. Brown and Orange, and olive and ginger, hard to beat colors! Great report, looking forward to getting on the White soon!
  7. Awesome looking hair jigs fellas. I got to try some of mitch's last year, and they are awesome! I haven't tried to tie any yet, but I can see where that would be fun, the anticipation of the trips while your tying the jigs! I get pumped up when i'm preparing my tackle the night before! I love the challenge of winter smallies, one of my goals this winter is to try new water just for the challenge of getting a winter bit, I did this last year with some success. It has become one of my favorite times of year to fish oddly enough, of course with my job, it's when I can actually plan a trip! When I go, a hair jig is gonna be tied on one of my poles!
  8. Here's a few stills I pulled off the video on my Hero 3 from some drone shots!
  9. I have a Hero 2 and a 3, I do prefer the 3 as it just has better looking video, the colors are sharper. I have used the head mount to get some neat youtube videos. They rock in a kayak, I made a pvc mount for a Jackson coosa out of 1 inch PVC, if had a pic i'd show you, i'll try to find one. Like others have stated, I pick the still shots out of the video on my editor, they are very good quality, espieically on the hero 3 black, i'd imagine the 4 would even be better, even if you ran it in 1080 and not 4k? Great little action cameras, I use them mainly for 2nd angle stuff when i'm in a boat now. If your wanting to film with good audio, there not the best, but the 3 and 4 is a lot better than the 2 for audio. Good luck, look forward to your videos!!
  10. Saw this come across there facebook page, glad they got um, and in such a busy time of year for agents! Well done!
  11. Here's the actual fish I'm bringing! I've got a stash of crappie to I might dip into also .
  12. I'll bring the fish, cooker, oil and cornmeal. I'll wedge up some potatoes and can bring them unless somebody wants to bring a 5 pound bag, that should be plenty, or hushpuppies to? I have a special batch of flathead, all in the 3 to 5 pound range, those eat the best, i'm bringing that. probably not as much as last year tho...lol
  13. You said it my friend! Look forward to it every year! Fishing, fellowship, food and fun!
  14. Mark, I run the current river mainly doniphan into Arkansas, to me this stretch is easier than the 11pt. I fished as far up as Ellington this summer and had no problems there. If he can run the 11pt he will be just fine!
  15. I plan on getting there Friday morning to fish and leaving Sunday morning. I'll bring my river boat, and fish cooker with some Flathead!
  16. It's been over a month since I've been able to wet a hook, so this evening the opportunity came where I could fish a couple hours on the Current, not including the 45 minute drive. So I got to the river with a couple hours to fish, and even tho I brought my usual 5 poles, I chose to go with my trusty spinning rod with the *&% Rig...lol. I decided to go for numbers for as much action as I could get in. When I got on the water, I had the entire river to myself, with the beautiful low water, fall colers and the sound of the shoals, it was just a great experience, makes you just set back and count your blessings. I started out in one of my favorite summer spots, and caught a couple small ones, but the lower water I could really see everything, so decided to hit another spot and back way off of it with the boat. The next spot is a stretch of about half a quarter with current in the first half with rocks and then kinda eddys back with slacker water, the bottom half with the slacker water started to produce some feisty smallies and a decent Kentucky! As it was getting darker I moved onto another similar but smaller stretch, this time there were some channel breaks that were perfectly positioned around some big rocks, this is where the action got hot. Literally caught a fish or got bit on every cast for about 15 minutes, the smallies were feisty but not huge, but did manage a dandy Kentucky in this spot. As it was getting dark, I decided to try another spot with some rock piles stationed for erosion control near a cow farm, I decided to try the buzzbait I had tied on, trying to get a near dark topwater bite, after little while with no luck, I had just enough light to throw the rig again and Bam, got nailed again with 2 fish in 3 casts, one being a nice Goggleye. At this point, I was getting a little concerned about having enough light to navigate a shoal on the way back to the ramp, so I headed back. No big smallies, but caught a bunch of feisty ones, and a few good Kentuckys! Just a great evening on the water, and long overdue, having that river to myself was like a spiritual experience that my soul needed! If you haven't been out on the water lately and exhausted with the busyness of life, do yourself a favor and get out there! Bret
  17. Nice fish Andy. Hope to get to try one of those craws someday :)
  18. Great pic Ron, and good advice! I know Current river is really low, -3tenths at Doniphan, I love to fish it at 0 in the summer. Since my initial post, some of this rain moved up there, so a little green in the water would be great! I might try to sneak off over there tomorrow, we will see! Mitch, I forgot to mention jerkbaits, that's one of my favorites as well!
  19. I ususally don't get much of a chance to ever fish this time of year with my job, but this year I could possibly sneak out to the river a time or two in the next couple weeks. What do you guys like to chuck at the Bronzebacks this time of year. With rain i'm getting here, but not a whole lot it looks like north of me on the Current river, I may try to go one day this week. I'm thinking the standards for me, tubes, finesse rigs etc dragging along the bottom. If you guys have got on any fall smallies, feel free to post some pics! As my work will slow down soon, I hope my fishing and posting on here will pick up! Tight lines!
  20. Great video man!! well done!
  21. Wow, I bet you'll have a deck or a porch overlooking that with a cup of coffee on a nice fall morning! That is beyond sweet!
  22. It's looking like i'll be good for Friday and Saturday. I"ll bring my cooker Les, and some flathead to go with it!! I'll bring my boat as well if needed! Looking forward to it once again fellas!!
  23. Catching them on the current river to more frequently near the state line. Spots and smallies have always been mixed here so guess no surprise.
  24. Sweet catch for sure!! I've never ate a flathead that large, but have ate some over 60 pounds, it was still good! Ditto on belly meat comparison!!
