  1. Here's another pic of it. I'd say it's bigger than 3 pounds! I'm with ya on the hybrid, this pic that stripe is really clear!
  2. Saw This On My Facebook......Wow !! Table Rock I Believe!
  3. Great read Al, and good to hear something positive about something getting better!
  4. When I know a fish is going to jump, well it depends on what I think I've got on the line. If it's a small trout or even a smallie, i'll say look here it's gonna jump, i'll usually extend my rod out and try to let the tip take the shock of a head shake, but keep some kind of tension to keep the hook in. If it's a big brown or a Dandy Smallie, I'll say, oh crap, and hold on...lol My fishing buddy lost a 19 inch (give or take) smallie the other day when it lunged out of the water, we are still thinking about that one, but it makes us wanna go back even more. I like fishenwrench's explanation, that sounds like a good game plan.
  5. Welcome Joe, I bet you've been to the Little Red river a time or two?
  6. Looks like a great time Rick. That one pick of the Gravel bar looks a lot like where Ham floated awhile back?
  7. Got rained out this morning at the farm, and my friend and neighbor that also farms asked if I wanted to go with him this morning to Current river to chase some Smallies. What was I suppose to say....why heck yea!! We got there this morning around 630 and started fishing with some topwater, and nabbed a few Smallies right off the bat, it was cloudy and early and that must of helped. After awhile we worked some rock dikes that were installed for erosion, and that produced some more decent smallies. My friend Jody and his son Ethan were chucking Bandit Crankbaits, and I was throwing my trusty Senko, we both caught fish equally with each. Around 930 we decided to venture upriver and try some new water, and ran onto a nice stretch of water with a lot of boulers and current, it started out swift and tapered off as we drifted about half a quarter, in the swift water we picked up some fish on crankbaits, then as it tapered off, Jody brought out a Zoom Brushhog, and I used a Jennybugs Creek critter with a grub trailer. After catching a few fish a piece, Jody hung into what I believe was a 19 plus inch smallie, this thing was a Dandy. I got a great look at it, but as I got the net ready to nab it, it threw the hook out and slung the brushhog across the water. Needless to say, my blood was pumping after that. I had also been throwing a Bandit crankbait with a squarebill, but Jody's had a deeper bill, so I decide to try my Bomber 6a, that did the trick, caught several after that in the swifter water. I was set with that and my Senko for the rest of the day! My friends little boy caught 8 or 9 himself, and he decided he liked my senko's. I tried to keep somewhat of a count but lost count after awhile. We boated somewhere around 35 smallies 10 Kentuckys and numorous nice goggleyes that i'm wishing now i'd kept a few for the skillet. Also on some smaller crankbaits we tried, we caught some really nice Bluegill, there's some good ones in there. My phone died about half way threw the trip, so I missed some pics of the nicer fish we caught, several in the 15 range, no gaints other that that one we lost, but good quality and fight. Also, several of them were extremely dark colored, like that the first pic, I think those were really cool! Back to work for me in the morning, but it sure was nice getting my Smallie fix in, ready for another 80 hour week!!
  8. Rick, that looks good, if you and Ham want 150 trout in that boat don't forget to holler at me! Griz, I second the floors that Fred and Current River marine put in for aluminum boats. I have a War Eagle that I had them put the perforated aluminum in, it's a great floor, and weighs nothing!
  9. Man, that would be fun, would love to do the same Mitch... I did that last year one time, and it does look cool. I'm probably gonna be working so I can't commit, but i'd love to, love to meet some more of you guys!
  10. Great report and pics Ham! Awesome!
  11. Welcome to the Forum! My family has went to Hardy at our place there since the 60's, that area is very special to me! You live in trout and smallmouth heaven right there, you ever try to fish for them?
  12. You can tell what fish I get excited about!!
  13. I"d take pictures and let her back in the water. I to have never intentionally killed one.
  14. Yes, it made it like bringing in a fish twice it's size, which was awesome. I got some footage of a smallmouth I caught also about half that fishes size, but it almost fought as hard, but that's to be expected out of a brownie!!
  15. yeah, we had a bet on who didn't catch the biggest fish, had to buy a 6 pack of IBC rootbeer, which we always have when we fish...lol. At first he said that didn't count because it wasn't a trout, but he later gave in. He did catch the biggest rainbow that day.. Oh and we weren't behind Bull Shoals dam...lol
  16. Went trout fishing Saturday on the Little Red River with my father in law, and had a surprise on the end of the line! Turns out this isn't uncommon were I was at, but was for for me..
  17. Thanks Guys.. I know the 8 mile ditch Mitch your talking about.. Ham, sounds like a plan, although I called that a perch, it's just a pretty colored up sunfish, the Mayo has always had a lot of those real pretty ones like that. However, I bet you could knock off a few species if you brought your Kayak.
  18. I took my son Landen to the Mayo Ditch yesterday, it's a Ditch that runs through the family farm. This place is what got me started In my love for fishing, even though its basically a Delta drainage ditch, it's a good place to take a kid fishing. I used to float it and catch kentuckys, blugill, sunfish, catfish, "poly cat" channel catfish, and something that was always a treat for me, Bowfin. I made lifelong friends as kid, fishing with neighbors as we got together to head to the Mayo, when I cross it with a tractor even at 37, I still get that feeling every time I cross it, and remember the happy memories. So taking Landen there like my Dad did myself, seems like the the thing to do! It's unique for a Delta Ditch in the fact that when the St. Francis river is up some, it gets feed by "seep water coming up from the ground, at times it will run almost clear like an Ozark Stream. Anyhow I made this little clip, Landen was having some fun in front of the camera. Who knows, we might have another "Brian Wise Kid on here someday....
  19. Nice!! Wish I was there!!
  20. Man, that's awesome!
  21. Ham, you should post a pic of that huge bass you sent me while I was spreading (and loading) chicken Litter today, that hurt man...that hurt...
  22. Nice man!! That river is just a catfish factory, it's unreal what you can catch on 5 trotlines with 25 hooks a piece. One night can literally stock you up for the year, and a lot of them flathead if you put them out in the right place!! I"ve never targeted the blues like that with the pole, but would love to sometime, thanks for sharing!!
