They had some big shindig down there on the Meramec called a "Bull float" (?) My daughter attended and showed me aftermath pics afterward. It looked way worse than that. I said "Wow, I'm so proud that you were a part of that". She looked at the floor and assured me that she wouldn't be there next year. I said, GOOD!

After looking at the forecast for the next week going forward I'd say that the info I just gave you was worthless. We are about to lose 10° of water temp and I'm sure that's gonna change things considerably. I looked back through my pics to see how I was catching them during mid-November last year and I see lots of Whites on Clousers and Sassy shads, and the green bass all had Football jigs and 1/2 oz. slow-roller spinnerbaits in their mouths.
-
Do you put a bend in the Binks, or are they already bent? I've tried a bunch of different jigging spoons but my confidence spoon is the old CC spoon with a slight (almost Imperceptible) bend in it. Of course you have to add better split rings and a better hook, but that old silver plated cheapie just always gets the job done.

Yeah for 125.00 And they cry over a 20.00 Whopper Plopper.

I've done nothing but flyfish lately but I'd think that a Topwater bait, Fluke or a swim jig would get'em. In my area there is still alot of fish around shallow wood cover, and suspended under the outside edges of docks. The water is clear enough that I can see them up here and you'll never see one bass by himself, if there's one then there's 5 or more.

Pretty sure if any of THOSE had won a championship at any time.... they'd still be making them.

Yep, see that Heddon patch? Heddon had nothing but topwater baits back in those days. Told ya!!!

I cleaned my gutters out a month or so ago and was surprised that there were 4 bottle rockets and an ink pen in there. My daughter probably threw the pen, but nobody shot bottle rockets around my house ! How'd those get in there? Pretty sure the lantern stuff is biodegradable, but yeah it looks bad. Jillions of them are launched every year though, and as far as I know nobody ever chases them down to pick them up.

Yeah I like the Rage chunk in the Winter for some stupid reason that I'm sure is just in my head. The rest of the time it is Critter craws or Super speed craws. -

No no no...My sister was marrying a Marine. I'll never forget it because it was the first time I ever got to drive away from Winter. It was mind boggling. Beings as there was no internet back then it probably took until 79-80 before us Audrain county hicks knew there was a C&R season. -
The upper ends of tributary arms (above the turnover) have fresh water and O2 coming in. When the lake further down is fishing terribly because of the turn over effect there is usually a decent number of fish (above) that will bite, and a topwater bait seems to be the quickest way to find them. I'm no Glen Andrews, but I am a Glen (halfway there) so take it for what it's worth. Just trying to help. Fishing during the turn over period can be a tuff-mother regardless of who you are and what you know. Odds favor trying to get lucky up high over trying to be smart down low. IMO of course

If that's true then I wasn't there. I was thinking that me and 2 buddies went down for the first day of C&R. But I know where I was during December of '76 and it wasn't anywhere near a trout park. Would you believe Gitmo? -
I pretty much avoid bars. Have a low tolerance for anybody drunker than I am. I have a funny story. Actually it's a confession that I'm suddenly in the mood to come clean about, so I'm gonna drop it right here.... There was a dude around here that was quite a scrapper, MMA/Golden glove and all that business. We were in a bar shooting pool and he was bad wasted. I got irritated at his drunkenness and told him to get out of my face and go sit down. He got all pissed off and insisted that we go outside. I was like....Uh Oh! We go out into the parking lot, I start trying to talk him down, and he immediately goes Billy Jack on me, but he missed with one of his spin kicks and his shin hits the bumper of an old Dodge Power wagon and his other foot slid in the gravel and down he went. I came down on the back of his head with my knee, grinding his face in the gravel, then I kicked him HARD in the face and took off running like a flushed rabbit. The next day he was in a bad way, couldn't walk and his face looked real bad. The word got out that I "kicked his posterior" and everybody, including him, treated me like I was Chuck Norris or something after that. It even started to go to my head a little bit, until I thought about it and realized that if he hadn't been 3 sheets to the wind, or if there had been anybody else in the parking lot to see how it really went down, I would have been hospitalized or eventually killed.

Don't kid yourself, you're gonna struggle to consistently catch bass whether you understand it or not. So if you never even knew that it occurred you'd be just as well off. Stay above it, throw fast moving topwater baits and cover alot of water. When you get a bite work that area over good before moving on, because fish are likely schooled up. That's the best advise I think you'll ever get for fishing turnover conditions. On natural lakes, strip pits, and ponds you're probably better off staying home and raking leaves.

Speaking of cool ol' boys.....check this ol'badass out.
-
Hey, I'd hang out with those 2 old boys. I'd even give the fat boy a better rod. That 30.00 POS he was packing around made me feel sorry for him.

It drives me crazy when they draw the lake down like they did, they never used to do that this early in the Fall. You'd think that the fish (temperates) would just pull back a little ways and do their thing just a bit further out.....but they don't seem to wanna do that. If there isn't enough water to go all the way back they just stay out close to deep water and won't commit to large shallow flats, or so it seems. Makes no sense to me. On Truman you'll seldom if ever find schools of whites on big upper end shallow flats, the best fishing is always down around the weir and the lower dam area. I assume that's because the lake level fluctuates so much. I can't imagine why a pelagic fish like whites would care about steady lake levels but they sure seem to. Moreso even than Largemouth and crappie. Crazy!

I actually argued with auto correct about that. It was right all along. Imagine that. That being owned up to, I gotta say that if YOU become a Grammer Nazi then I'm outta here.

I suppose. I guess you just don't care unless it's a product you use alot and are pleased with. I have fallen away from SK stuff in recent years, but for a long time I was pretty faithful to quite a few of their products. -

I always wanted to take my high powered Labrador retriever down there on opening day and throw a stick below the dam. -

What is it with these bait companies? -
They can't help it, OP. They were tought about "turn over" by fisheries biologists, and they just accept it as fact, they think they have to. Independent thought is frowned upon.
