If it's a steep bank with overhanging limbs or weeds then shoot it right in there, give it a twitch (mend), let it drift about 10 seconds then pick it up and do it again 15-20 ft. further down the bank...and again....and again...until something happens. If there's no overhanging stuff then just plop it right down about 2-3ft from the bank, or wherever the water is about knee deep. Give it a little twitch about every 5' of drift.

Consider this: If a fish can see better in clear deep water wouldn't the fish also assume that it could be seen better there? If that's truly the case then I would expect the fish to feel more secure (hidden) in shallow water with some surface disturbance, or tucked in under shallow cover. Or maybe fish just don't care whether they can be seen or not. Birds don't give a crap whether we can see them or not, I guess because we aren't perceived as a threat. They seem to know that we can't just chase them down and catch them but still they'll only let us get so close before flying off. Probably about the same distance you can get to a Robin in your yard is the same distance you can get to a fish in clear water before it spooks or changes it's normal relaxed behavior. When we look into the water we are looking in the same direction that the light source is coming from. The fishes view is completely different (opposite) so I have my doubts that it can see very clearly. Matter of fact it probably sees above surface objects better on cloudy days than on sunny days, yet our angling results usually lend us to assume the opposite since low light periods typically seem pretty good. Now you've got me thinking how shade bends at the surface....or whether it does. Are the shady spots really where we think they are ? Or where they look like they are? They might not be.

My 22 year old thinks it's stupid. Have another one that's 15 and she almost pukes when she sees one, but wants her nose pierced. I dunno which generation the guage thing belongs to but it's gonna look really gross when they decide to take it out. I'm not bringing it to my 8 year olds attention because I don't wanna give her any ideas. This is the one that isn't going to be happy until she has either a groundhog or a cow living in her room.

Yeah I guess it did. It wasn't long after that when I realized it was way easier to take their money by fixing their boats than it was to beat them at fishing.

The upper river just doesn't seem to produce toads like it used to. Back in the 80's and early 90's your average bass was almost 2 pounds heavier once you got above Pearson. I used to make the run from PB#2 to Cole Camp almost every weekend from August to November because that's what we had to do to get a decent check. Definitely wasn't worth it because it cost me 5 times more in fuel and powerheads than I ever won.

Usually right under the dock floats or under boat hoists. 4ft. deep or less.

I can pin each and every character in the cast to someone I know around here, so I'd say the depiction is pretty spot on. The lawmen in the cast are a lot more laid back and cooler than the ones in real life though.

October is usually awesome for everything. I always have trouble staying on the green bass in November and December but the Whites and Crappie are usually at an all time activity peak from mid-October until almost Christmas time.

Yessir, fishing is my favorite thing to do, always has been, so I kinda planned my life around it. If I had to drive 100 miles to go fishing I'd not be a happy Wrench very often.

BTW I have a few sink-tip lines (good ones) that I'd sell for 1/2 of what I gave for them, if anyone is interested. Very lightly used.

They make a 7ft. 7.4 IPS that is a bomb. I use it on a 6 or 7wt. for swinging leeches in fast heavy water and it does well for me. I use a 2-3' flouro tippet and a sinking fly so the actual length of the sinking section is over 9ft. They are relatively inexpensive, give them a try. Having a longer sinking head really doesn't do anything for you on a drift/swing, or when stripping cross-current. In my opinion a long sinking tip, or full sink line really only shines in slow or still water where there is enough time to get it all down. Besides, having a shorter sinking head gives you the ability to mend, which is something you can't do with a 15-20ft. sink tip line very well.

I took a long look at the water, post eclipse, and it just looked dead. You know how sometimes you can just look at the water and feel it wanting to humiliate you? Not a dimple in sight, no birds or critters milling about, not even a lazy turtle on a log. I finished my sandwich and went back to work. I refused to give it the satisfaction.

I quit buying FS lines after I discovered RIO sinking leaders. I use the 7' 5.6 IPS mostly, but the others have done well for me too. I have some longer 10-12' ones but I really never need to use them as the 7 footers get the job done just fine and are a breeze to pick up and cast.

If I ever start humping the blanket that's probably what will happen.

That was a weird light. The coolest part for me was that the cicada's went apeshit. I haven't heard or seen a cicada all Summer, but obviously they are out in huge numbers.
