? That is exactly what lead me into this career field. I was either going to have to learn how to outfish everyone on the planet, or I was going to have to become a quality boat service guy. At first I thought I could do both....but I quickly saw where that was leading me.
If all outboards were the same (and they stayed that way awhile) then outboard techs could be bought pretty cheap, but the constant studying and testing different theory's on various designs makes it more of a lifestyle than a "job". If you don't eat, sleep, and breathe it then you are nothing but a guesser and a parts changer, and you'll never make it. Even aviation techs have it easier than outboard mechanics.
