  1. I wanted to build a new 8wt. bass buggin' rod this Summer, but nooooo, I had to piss all my money away on a stupid boat. Now I have a boat on a trailer with bald tires, so I can't afford to get it to the water. How brilliant is that ?
  2. Of course it's just ME, smarta$$, isn't it always ? LMAO ! Everyone else in the world can cast into a 15mph headwind and wrangle a 10 inch gill out of a flooded fencerow with a 3wt. WHILE ON GOVERNMENT SURVEILLANCE just fine. Got any money you'd care to piss away on inventor....I mean INVEST ?
  3. The 2-3 wt's would be fun for gills but the slightest breeze will put you out of commission, and flys with hackle and long rubber legs push quite a bit of air. To avoid the frustration of being undergunned I need a 5wt. for gills. Most of my bluegill flys are #12-#8 and are tyed with some bulk and lots of dangly parts. I bought a 3wt. specifically for bluegill but soon learned that it just couldn't cut it under most conditions. Warmwater flyfishing is getting more and more popular, and I think that's cool.
  4. Wow, no kidding. That's super clean for a '79 Looks like you've taken good care of it over the years. Those CDI power packs kill me, excellent aftermarket pack, but why do they gotta be that outragious shade of blue ? LOL
  5. Really nice curves. Definately keep the progress posts coming, I love watching a boat being built.
  6. I can't decide if I like mine or not. It sure is comfortable and there's no pucker factor when going through class 2-3 water, it glides (or bounces) right through it. But I don't like fishing out of it at all, and like everyone else has said, it is way too much work trying to go upstream for a second pass on something. Doing an up-down float is completely out of the question. For transporting me and my gear in a downstream direction and stopping to wade fish, I think it is great. Easy to load/unload, easy to portage, stable and safe feeling (I don't think a strainer could eat me in a toon unless it was a really nasty one).
  7. Thanks y'all J-doc, That '79 V4 is a solid motor. That design has definately stood the test of time, lots of low-end grunt and who doesn't love that low pitched throaty Howl at WOT Personally I'd trust a meticulously restored '79 Evinrude over a 2008-2010 Merc or Yammie anyday. Here's a restored '76-'79 hybrid 55 that I'm willing to bet will still be running smooth and strong when the 2010's are in the shops waiting on backordered parts.
  8. Sure, if you have the proper tools and the confidence. Just remember that there's no warranty on DIY projects Can a person read a fishing manual and have the same amount of success that you do, without the actual experience you've gained from doing it for years ?
  9. Oh, as far as the difference in compression of your other 3 cyls from the 120 of last season...was that taken on the same compression guage ? I have 3 compression guages and they all read differently. The important thing is that they all are within 15% of each other USING THE SAME COMPRESSION GUAGE.
  10. Ok I understand. During the process of teardown and inspection the tech needs to come to a solid decision on what caused the cylinder to fail in the first place, guesses do not count. The theory that the decarb job caused the cylinder to score is nothing but a guess IMO. (at least at this point). Going by the estimates you quoted I first thought it was a 6 cyl. outboard, then I reread and noticed that it is apparently a 4 cyl. So if they aren't replacing ALL of the pistons then in my opinion they are a little high, since you should be able to refresh all 4 holes and replace all 4 pistons for under 4000.00 (parts and labor)and that should also include a fresh water pump and fuel/oil system overhaul. To be totally honest it kinda sounds like you were quoted the price of a replacement powerhead, instead of a rebuild. Can I ask specifically what make, model, and HP the outboard is ?
  11. Uh oh...somebody got a scary estimate C'mon, Lets hear about it.
  12. No need to let it get heated. Let'em go for it, that's where your county revenue comes from.
  13. To hell with sasquatch, cottonmouths, and saber-toothed frogs, There's a Surveillance camera ! That's enough to keep me away.... I'm a man on the run
  14. Hell that's nothin' they used to inject HGH in some of the broodstock. I think flysmallie filleted one of those when he was a kid
  15. Now that you mention it I haven't fished those streams in a long time. I bet they'd eat a club sandwich hopper with reckless abandon right now.
  16. I had an experience like that while night fishing once. Turned out to be bats biting my line. Seriously.
  17. One of the keys to better hookups on flukes and Senko type baits is using a "low sweep to the side" type hookset. Not sure why it works, but you'll improve your catch rate considerably by setting the hook that way.
  18. Cool underwater shot. What kind of line are you using in that pic ? I have never been able to see the line (P-Line flouroclear and CX) in any of my underwater pics. It may just be the angle of the light source though as most of my UW shots have been taken later in the afternoon. FWIW I have always had the same experience on the stretch just below Cedar camp, Beautiful water but something seems "wrong" with it.
  19. If ? Don't you mean "When" ? And has it not happened already ?
  20. No registration sticker, probably has some delinquent taxes. No whistle, paddle, PFD, or fire extinguisher either, that's a real revenue building outlaw craft there.
  21. Looks just like the aftermath of a certain tournament held out of Gravois Public access on L.O. three days ago. I pulled in there Sunday morning, took a look around the ramp and my blood pressure hit the roof.

  23. Well you didn't say "carp"...but I ain't eating them.
  24. Believe it or not you can still get parts for those control boxes. Good ol' J/E Try getting parts for anything Merc related prior to 1974
