And seat belts. And fire suits when burning leaves and grilling. And leather gloves and eye protection when cooking bacon. Roll bar on the truck. Kevlar vest & concealed pistol for visiting gas stations. Chaps and steel toes for chainsaw work. Chain gloves for filleting fish. Helmet and knee/elbow pads for bicycle rides. Respirator for visiting smoky bars. Anything to make your eventual death drag out and keep your family under stress and worry for as long as possible. Nothing less than 64 trips to the hospital to pray bedside is going to be acceptable. 😒😥😪😫 I say piss on it. We all gotta go sometime, no sense in dragging it out and causing years worth of sadness, worry, and drama.

The main reason for going to NFOW is to fish for the trout. I was just saying that IF the trip coincided with the temperate bass run it would be a potential bonus, and maybe I'd stay 3 nights instead of 2. My lack of enthusiasm about fishing below Bagnell is proof that there's more to fishing than catching fish for me. The scenery there is blah, and the smell/taste of that mist in the air is horrid. Whenever I hang out down there all I wanna do is hurry up and get home so I can take a shower and brush my teeth. I just can't adjust to that environment. 😝

Well what's the closest place to there that a guy with a 4x4 could slide a Jon boat in ? Pretty sure I could get it done at Dawt. No?

Strictly a shallow water target bait for me. Pitch or skip it into a spot that I think should hold a fish, let it sink on a semi-tight line while watching for a take on the fall, maybe swim it a few feet, then crank it in and look for another spot to pitch it. They are great behind docks and under walkways because the skipping presentation wakes fish up and sometimes makes them aggressive.

The date looks pretty good, weather/water levels depending. I dunno, I really had my heart set on NFOW. Ain't nothing gonna happen until I get some money made around here.....so I'll have to take the Wait & See approach for now. So nobody that wants to talk about it has fished NFOW recently ?

Appreciate the invite. What's the date of that shindig ?

😥 Sad news

I did a hard-fast swim last summer trying to catch a floaty that blew off the boat and was drifting away. At about 40-45 yards I was getting pretty exhausted. I caught up with it at about 65 yards, and I'd honestly say that was pretty close to my current limit. If I had not reached the floaty and had to swim back without a rest I would have had a real hard time. So yeah, the mile that I did as a Webelo scout is totally out of the question now. 😏

Thinking about a late February/early March visit during a time when conditions are good. If it, by chance, coincided with the temperate bass run above Tecumseh that would be kinda cool. You're in, right? Billetheads are in, they just don't know it yet.

If you have a long distance to swim, the thing you DON'T wanna do is to try to hurry up and get there. Providing that the water isn't so cold that hypothermia is a concern then just take your time. It's easier to walk 5 miles than it is to run 5 miles.... it just takes longer to get there. Bottom line: Don't panic and gas yourself out trying to reach land immediately. Pace yourself and try to make it a casual swim. For me I can go all day with a casual side stroke, and eventually I'll get to where I wanna be. In cold COLD water, or in heavy current where you have to work real hard to avoid being swept into a bad spot.... all bets are off.

Not a single post here since September ? Surely guys are fishing it. What's the buzz on NFOW lately? It's as if the big flood just killed it......but I know better.

Once upon a time I caught a pretty nice one (15-16") about 2 miles below MV during the middle of Summer. For the far downstream fish it's hard to say whether they came from the hatchery or from a spawning population at Blue Spring. Couple-three years ago there was a big brown caught down there. No question where that one came from.

Is yours a 17 footer ? I thought they kept the actual length just under 16' so you didn't have to have type 1 pfd's on board.

I went to school with a bunch of soybean farmers. Our project was Marigolds. 🙄

Back in the day....they dumped fish at the 64 access, NRO, Barclay, Maggards, and Prosperine. Then they quit stocking at Maggards and Prosperine, and for 2-3 years they'd occasionally throw some in at Ho-Humm. Then when Ho-Humm changed hands they stopped going down there and it was only 64 access, NRO, and Barclay. Pretty sure they have quit stocking at NRO since Mr. Burns died ....so as far as I know it's only 64 access and Barclay now.

That was the wife and my immediate speculation. 😄 Who knows.

Not so much. We have cherry tomatoes that come up on their own every year and do great no matter what. And Jalapenos seem to do well for me. Never had much success growing anything else on purpose. There's a farmers market just up the road that always has delicious veggies, and at a cost that makes trying to grow your own more expensive than buying them. So why even bother? We are only doing it so the kids can learn how it's done, and to give them an extra "chore".

Interesting turn of events. For some reason the whole cabbage program got scrapped. Kinda out of character for them to get kids all hyped up about something and then announce "Nevermind we're not doing that", but that's the way the little one says it went down. We'll do it anyway, but we are gonna pick something other than cabbage. My vote is for Watermelon or some Pumpkins.

Why are y'all trying so hard not to offend each other ? 😅 My wife went on her annual Runza kick last week, and after suffering through them for the last 10 years I finally came clean and expressed my true feelings. Fact is: I hate them. Well to her they are a "thing from home" so of course she got offended, and of course I couldn't just shut up and let silence soften the blow.....I went on a tirade about how lame Cornhusker folks were to let something as undynamic as hamburger and cabbage wrapped in a biscuit, into their culture. Then the middle kid chimes in and decides it's time for HER to come clean too. Turns out she'd rather eat Ramen noodles for dinner. The next thing ya know a big greasy plastic serving spoon flys across the kitchen at 452 fps, the stove gets turned off, and she locks herself into the bathroom to cry. I look at middle kid and say "Now look what you've done!" Then tonight I come over here, and it's like deja Vu ! Ness, please come out of the bathroom, we're sorry. 😥

She knows that as soon as the door closes behind her all the rules change. Kids get to watch movies that they ordinarily wouldn't, dog gets to sleep on the couch.....Pretty much anything goes. The only stipulation is that everything has to be cleaned up before the warden gets back. And if she asks "Who did so & so?" I say, ask Madison. Madison says, ask Morgan. And Morgan says "I dunno". Then we all stay silent for 15 minutes and life goes back to normal. 😊

Well kinda, yeah. He didn't look very happy. 👺

He doesn't get to sit at the table when mom's home. The queen is chillin' with her chick pals in Columbia, so we're bach'in' it tonite. Doing indoor air pistol shooting and the whole 9. 🤸
