  1. When you are 8-10 miles from the nearest town and break a crank arm you'll wish for a passing ATV or golf cart. Been there/done that.
  2. They are precious in youth, aren't they? Our 6y/o favorite thing in life is folding laundry. She will actually get pissed if the wife does it without her. How long ya reckon that'll last?
  3. When my oldest turned 17 she all of a sudden decided that I was a flippin' idiot. Now she is fixing to be 21 and I'm convinced that she is correct. Earlier today the wife and I needed to run to the store. We told the youngest to run upstairs and let her older sister know that we were going on a quick run. She says, "Why does someone have to WATCH ME? I'm six years old for Christ sake". The wife and I both laughed until we cried......then spent the rest of the evening trying to explain to her why "FOR CHRIST SAKE" was not something 6 year olds should be saying. No it's not a cuss word, but..... No it's not taking the Lord's name in vain, but.... She doesn't get it, and quite frankly neither do I. So OK fine, you win, but DON'T SAY IT IN SCHOOL OR IN FRONT OF YOUR FRIENDS ! Why ? I am at a loss. Help!
  4. I like to eat fish fairly regularly, and I usually have just under the allowable possession limit in my freezer at all times. I don't keep bass very often but I will if I haven't done well on the Whites and crappie lately and I'm hungry for fish. Never keep a Smallie from a stream just cuz I love them too much, and I'm only good for 1 or 2 meals of catfish per year, they just aren't among my favs for the table. I only like bluegill if I can catch some big ones which is only during the early Spring for me. And I only mess with Goggleye if I'm on a overnight float trip. A good walleye always comes home with me but I don't know why.... Whites taste just as good to me and I don't chance cutting a finger off while cleaning them like I do EVERYTIME I fillet a walleye. Bottom line is that I fish ALOT so it would be insane (and illegal) to keep fish every time I go.
  5. Hard to beat a clouser for spring run Whites, and typically a sink-tip or sinking leader isn't needed up in the shallow creeks. The one tip I give most often to guys that aren't doing so well is SPEED UP THE RETRIEVE. Whites love to chase and eat stuff that is moving quickly, and fast erratic retrieves really get the whole school fired up. Believe me, you can't strip a fly too fast for white bass.
  6. Wise advice right there!
  7. Hard to find one that has a nice booty, will put up with my crap, and can also train a dog.
  8. Regardless of what you do you are going to get more bumps than solid hookups. Your technique is fine as long as you're getting bites and not getting broke off alot.
  9. The dog will be delighted that you're home, but he/she has no idea where your favorite jeans are and couldn't care less if they are clean. He/she also has no intention of preparing dinner for you.
  10. A little bit, but the heavy brown stain is permanent. It's going to take alot of clearer inflow to dilute it.

Is it possible to find those words on a valentine card? Pretty sure that would get a guy divorced.
  12. I understand why they gig at night, but I don't understand why they never do it during the day. Educate me. And yeah I know the difference between gigging/snagging. I also know that it's easier to gig than to snag.....yet snagging is done in the day time. Again, educate me.

It's human nature to assign mythical/spiritual importance to things we don't understand. Therefore no matter how preposterous our assumptions may be, they grow to become real in the gardens of our mind.
  14. Yet you still don't own an orange crankbait ?
  15. Well.....just because a few idiots can't drive very good with a buzz, DUI is now the most sought after CRIME in the country. I think it's safe to say that more pole/line fishermen get enforced upon than giggers. And why is it that guys only gig at night anyway? Suckers don't act any different at night than they do during the day. I've never done any gigging but it seems like you could come up behind a sucker and stick him just as easily during the daytime. Guys snag them during the daylight hours.
  16. There won't be a trail. He will plead guilty to a misdemeanor in the end. Guarantee it.
  17. Only time will tell. Still alot of good strong 1970's 9.5-25hp 2-stroke outboards out there. So I guess let us know in 30-some years. There sure is alot more parts in a 4-stroke......just to get 25 horses. What's the point? The only thing better about them is that they are quieter. And as for fuel economy on a 25.....hell your better off burning the crap up pretty quick. Old fuel is bad news.
  18. If it is now it won't be in 7-8 years.
  19. This is true... but not for the reasons they are implying. Merc forces/strongarms their way onto more new boats, and THAT is why. I still challenge you to show me a good, dependable 15 year old V-6 4-stroke outboard. I am currently running a 1986 Johnson GT150 and the gas bill hurts way less than a constant monthly boat payment would. Unless you are well off enough to pay cash for a fresh rig every 8 years you are going to be financially hurt owning these new age motors. The tournaments and guide trips don't pay THAT well. Fact.
  20. What you see in the debates is the best this country has to offer, Jerry. All the honest, decent folks with good morals and intentions are too busy fishing and talking BS on OAF to take on things like running the country.
  21. If there is any cruelty involved it would be the tournament guys, throwing them in a box, then a bag, then a basket, then throwing them back in an area totally unfamiliar to them. They are tired, lost, have no idea where the cover and food is. It would be like plucking your dog off of your porch, hauling him to a field 2 counties away and kicking him out. If by chance he does find his way home he'll be sore, sad, skinny, exhausted, and have some scars.
  22. So the pump housing goes over studs in the gearcase, right? Is the stud stripped inside the gearcase or on top of the pump housing where the nut/washer goes ?
  23. What motor (year/make/HP) are we talking about ? I need to see which gearcase it has before I can advise. Regardless I'm not a fan of synthetic thread repair stuff. Works OK for things that don't vibrate much or have temperature fluctuations.
  24. I wouldn't remove it. Alot of guys like electric start on anything over a 9.9 and the motor is worth 200.00 more with it. You'll be lucky to get 50.00 for the elec.start components on EBay, because they seldom fail.
  25. Yeah you'd better get that stripped stud dealt with, the pump housing needs to be held down nice and tight all the way around.
