One little thing to add to the city mouse country mouse argument. All you have to do is look at the minutes of a few MDC commision meetings. Look at where 90% of habitual violaters with revoked priveledges are from. nuff said. Tom

I know, I was really just putting it out there. Some folks are not going to get it and then they should just get ignored. Tom

I have nine hooks (three trebbles) on some of my crankbaits. Are these illeagle? Most of the Arigs I am seeing advertised have at least 4 arms, I don't think it would swim too well with only three baits on it. Tom

I thought there was no such thing as white catfish. White cat is just another name for Blue cat, local hillbilly vernacular.

Little Red Fisherman "That is a shame. A few of my friends have been aware of my fishing this winter for smallmouth. One of them is wanting me to take him bad, but he made a comment that he would like to "have a good mess for supper". When it's brought up to go, I kinda change the subject." Instead of changing the subject take em and introduce them to the concept of self control and why we need to protect smallmouth more than some other fish. I am guilty myself of not speeking up to a friend or aquantice. There is nothing wrong with being ignorant. Ignorance is the lack of knowledge, stupidity is ignoring education. Once we have determined someone is stupid then we can give up trying to teach them anything. Tom

Starting 97 Johnson Cold

Too late on saving the cash, already bought the stuff. I can see your point, I would imagine hard carbon build up would be pretty much impossible to remove. The Seloc manual I bought says to do a carbon spray tune every 50 hours. Never did it on my old Merc and I had a mechanic tell me the pistons and cylinders looked very clean. That POS you spoke of is strongly suspect????????....... that's where that plastic tube I found laying loose in the engine came from. Actually though, out of the hole putting it pedle to the meatle so to speek, the motor is smooth and jumps right through 1200 no problem. It is when I am trying to go slow and running constant at low speed that it does a lot of shaking and rattling. Idle in nutral is good, and in gear at low idle is ok, just when I pick it up just a little it gets pretty shaky. Tom -
Thousand hills does charge an annual fee. Very cheep to get a annual tag for your electric powered boat. For me with a motor boat Thousand hills was always a lot easier for a quick trip. Thousand hills is not great fishing from the shore, though I have caught and seen caught many fish right in front of the dinning lodge. Hazel is definately my choice if I want to spend the time to get to my favorite spots with a electric. There are many little lakes within 30 miles they are all better than a weekend on LOZ for most of us average fishermen. Tom

Yep, I sure like to eat fish too. But SMALLMOUTH? Goggle eye would taste better I would bet. Yep, Just signed up to rejoin the MSA, I have thought for years there needs to be changes in the regs. It will make a little difference if it is tightened up. Tom

Good for you. I am sure it will sell more.....one to me I'll bet. Tom

Hey Fishinwrench Your procedure works like a charm. Two or three cranks and it is up and running had it out twice this weekend. I think it was the high idle I was putting it in probably flooding it(always had to use high idle on my old merc). The primer button is a little sticky( goes in stays in, not forever but takes a long time to come back out.). Wonder what the proper lube would be for that area? Be nice if I could just spray something in there. Still don't "get" the kill switch, maybe because the switch/button is a bit sticky. She is still running a little rough at about 1200 rpm, but I still have not found the time to do a decarb on it and change out the plugs. More work to do, but thrilled with the motor for what I got in it. Took it in and had the lower unit pressure checked cause it had milky fluid, mechanic found it to be tight, leak free, drained it good and refilled it. Changed the water pump while he was there, so I am pretty much ready, set, go. Tom -
Been fishing more this year than I ever have before March 1, trained for MR 340 last year and went accross a lot of water and didn't fish, so I got in the mood. Looking forward to a big increase in time on the water......fishing this year. Still working on tackel and boat and plans. Tom

Boat Trailers & Back Pain
MoSportsmen replied to a topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
It also sounds like your trailer toung weight might be too heavy. You could have the axel moved forward on most trailers to lighten the toung weight. -
Old inside joke with a buddy of mine. He imitates an old codger in his bass club..... "wana catch fish?......take the G** D*** BBs outa the wigglewart" Never have tried it, always thought the rattle was a good thing. Anybody ever taken the G** D*** BBs outa the wiggle wart?

I know of them, Filmed a duck hunt there. Planned on doing a fishing show there but lost my connection. Nice place. They are dong more fishing business than deer hunting. Tom

Wanting To Buy - Orvis Far And Fine / Trout Fly Rod
MoSportsmen replied to Brian K. Shaffer's topic in Buy - Sell - Trade
"Need both rods" love that......know the feeling. -
That is the time to whack em with the bow. I would love to give it a try on a fly though. I wonder if you were to chum an area with fish food and then use a sented hair ball tied dry. After all the fight is the big part of this game. Any means to an end. I wonder how quick the carp would show up to a fish food slick? I guess that would depend on their proximity to where you threw it out. We have all seen the dock carp that are conditioned to being fed, they are right on it. I wonder how long it would take to get them conditioned to a spot with feeding? I have thought for years about dumping a can of corn in a spot for about three days straight and by the third day they might be right on it. I always thought it would be a great way to hook my son up with a fish that could really rip some line and bend a pole. Tom

Anyone Know Anything About Thomas Hill?
MoSportsmen replied to fishgypsy's topic in Thomas Hill Reservoir
Pretty old thread. But it is all there is. I am pretty new to Th, been there three times this year so far. Catching Hybrids every time, no keepers yet. Tom -
Right, I'm not retired yet and I don't do tournaments anymore, so I rarely fish all day fot two days in a row. Slower will probably be fine. The only one I found on the Cabellas site for 50 bucks was single bank. I would like the convience of one plug two batteries charging though.

Starting 97 Johnson Cold
MoSportsmen replied to MoSportsmen's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
You may be right. The guy I bought it from lost interest in it three years before he sold it. The motor had been in the lake for three years straight with ,I'm guessing, no maintenance. So far I have changed plugs, lower unit oil, and tried to tighten fuel and oil line connections. I ended up getting the motor for free after I sold off the pontoon boat and trailer, my old motor and my old CMC power trim so I am not hurt any. Running like a stuck ape through most of the rpm range. Got a 17 pitch Viper prop running at 5800 WOT with just me in the boat, shoots out of the hole like a rocket. Does seem to run pretty rough right around 1200 rpm. I am still working the bugs out but I don't think I have too far to go. Next I will check the gap on the plugs or replace them again, and decarb the pistons. The kill clip I have been trying to put on after the boat is running, maybe that is my problem. Thanks for all your help, I will let you know how your cold start procedure works next time I get out. Tom -
That is a heck of a deal I will check it out. 6 amp would probably do me but 8 would be better.

Boat Axle Repair/sales
MoSportsmen replied to packersooner's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I just happened to see a whole rack of replacement trailer axels in my local Orcelen farm store the other day. I did not realize they sold them. Nice to know when/if I need one. -

Well, that makes sense too. Good for lazy, wild, risk takers like me too. Got to start using that kill lanyard. Been running a Mercury all my life, don't have anything against the white motors just got to get used to em. Used to these ultra modern things too. My last motor was a '78 had to have an aftermarket kill switch installed when the bass club required it. So is the kill clip usually a little touchy to put in place? I guess I probably just need more practice. Kinday like getting this ultra modern white motor started. Tom -

Sounds like a good plan. Makes sense, haven't had much luck putting it up in high idle. Thanks, I will print that up and take it with me for the next cold start till it gets to second nature. The guy I bought it from had a procedure that he showed me........then I looked down at the key switch which says "push to Choke" ... he said, "what's that" so I did not have too much faith in what he showed me as a great cold start procedure. Next question.....kill switch clip. I got one......boat runs without it being connecetd....I can make it work. I put it on behind the key, if I pull it off it kills the motor. It is a bit tough to get on without killing the switch though. Am I doing something wrong? Is the switch suposed to work with out the clip in place? If I don't have to use it I tend not to and I know that is not a good practice, hard habbit to break though. This kill switch configuration just doesn't seem right to me. Tom -
I am a displaced Ozark angler. I grew up in Chesterfield and always headed south to fish, LOZ and numourous streams. Still love to fish the streams when ever I get a chance to. I have reciently moved to Macon so I got new home water to learn. Thomas Hill and Longbranch. I have lived most of my life in Kirksville so I know Thousand Hills and Hazel creek pretty well along with many other small lakes in a 30 mile radius of Kirksville. So far I have learned to catch the small hybreds at Thomas Hill looking for a keeper Hybred seems they are a bit rare there. Tom
