China has some very smart people, mostly educated here. They are also socialist/communist. They could care less about the rest of the world. As long as they expand and make a buck they could care less about the rest of the world. Their environmentalists are either killed or sent to exile. There is no Ozangler forum over there.

here's a good site to watch for you weather watchers. 6 to 10 day temp/precip forecast. On the left side tool bar is a link to click on for the 8 to 14 day outlook. I would say they are usually accurate around 75% of the time. They get updated around 2:30 each afternoon. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/610day/index.php

Old Steam Engine Exposed By Drought On The Gasconade.
Jerry Rapp replied to UnCivE's topic in General Angling Discussion
this was exposed in previous droughts. The Missouri River is still several feet above its historic lows, as is the Mississippi. There has been semi signifant rain north of us to keep the main stream rivers going. Just saying, this is not a historic find as it has been exposed before the internet. -
don't give up BBO. I have seen this so many times, and in a month or so, most regretted getting rid of all their stuff and had to go buy more. Take a break, even if for a month or until mid Sept when it starts cooling off some. Then try it again and maybe go to an ultra light with 6 lb line and a good old beetle spin. Catch some good panfish(you will catch several bass as well). When they are biting good, try to some other stuff. If they don't bite good, chalk up as experience but remember where you saw the most fish activity. Keep it simple and try to fish the better spots.

when the lake is full, well at least about 10 years ago, you could get a bass boat up to the swinging bridge. I fished the Glaize all the way from PB 1 to the bridge several times, thinking it looked to fishy to not have a bunch of good fish. My results were usually like yours, one good fish or two, but never enough to justify spending a tournament day up there. Maybe when the creek is flowing good, you could kayak or wade further up and catch more? Thanks for that memory return UnCiv.

Southern Illinois University And Others Host Asian Carp Tourny
Jerry Rapp replied to Tim Smith's topic in Conservation Issues
yes, but if a sensible govt subsidy would speed up the "need" of these fish, then, IMHO, that would be a hell of a better bang for the tax dollars than a lot of other subsidies. Commerical fishermen would increase, processing plants would need to be built (laborers to build it, then workers to man it), etc. It is just a common sense, win/win solution that would benefit the entire country, from environmental to job creation to increasing commerce. -
Southern Illinois University And Others Host Asian Carp Tourny
Jerry Rapp replied to Tim Smith's topic in Conservation Issues
there are so many of them in so many bodies of waters, that anything related to trying to eliminate them is a waste of time and dollars (see Chicago story and all the millions spent thus far). The only real hope is if they can be found useful in some way such as a food supplement, livestock feed, etc. Then there could some incentive for commericial fishermen to get them in mass quantities. Now this would be something very worthwhile as a government subsidy. -
Requesting Information/updates From The Long Creek/dam Area

yep, that Wiki thing knows everything.

I bet if just one person fired back it would have taken the idiot at least a few seconds to think about it and probably saved several lives. If two or three would have fired back......then he would have probably exited as quick as he could. Even if the shots didn't penetrate the kevlar, he would have been spun for a loop or two. In the end the ambulance chasing lawyers will blame the movie theater for not providing more security and they will pay out the @ss in lawsuits and probably go bankrupt. Sad state of affairs all around.

one of the best quotes from a japanese in the beginning of WW II. "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass. Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. Last night's events were horrible, just like Columbine, Ft. Hood, etc.

Lake Fork Report And Pics—July 20, 2012
Jerry Rapp replied to Tom Redington's topic in U.S.A. - South & West Regions
thanks for the reports Tom. I have always enjoyed them. I read a little blurp that gave me a lot more respect for you. The Lake Champlaign FLW. After your great finish you gave Roland a spot that helped him get a top 10 finish. That was good stuff. -
just thinking outloud here. Why are those lakes such crappie factories? I know back when they were new the bass fishing was very good, but you never hear about bass fishing in those lakes in anymore. Does Mississippi stock crappie every year? Is it the 12 inch limit? Or some other thing?

I went fishing yesterday evening in the pond across the street, but after a period time I ran out of worms. Then, I saw a "Cottonmouth" snake with a frog in his mouth. Knowing that frogs are good bass bait and the snake couldn't bite me with the frog in his mouth, I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog, and put it in my bait bucket. Now, the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bit. So, I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little sip of whiskey in its mouth. His eyes rolled back, he went limp. I released him into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog. A little later, I felt a nudge on my foot. It was that snake, with TWO MORE FROGS!

take lots of water! -
Tim, why did the Glaciers go away? By golly, it wasn't the end of world was it? Half Baked theories back at you also. Common sense says the cyclic climate changes have been going on forever. But you want to read 15 yrs of Al Gore rhetoric as gospel. Carry on, I will not address you directly anymore if you don't want to discuss this in a mature way.

sorry for the confusion. You can fish off docks, but if you are in a boat you can't be within 10 feet of it, nor can you cast within 10 feet of it. Assinine for sure, but that is the rule. Wouldn't that be great at LOZ? Lake Egypt is a power plant lake with development all around it. Obviously the dock owners trumped the fishermen. You know better than I, but I wonder what the vote would be if Ameren polled all the dock owners at LOZ?

yep Ness, the drought is bad news. And in Russia, the floods are horrible. http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/07/16/russia-floods-systems-idINL6E8IC70Y20120716

23.5 lbs won the all nighter Saturday night, and it took 20lbs to get the last paying spot of 11th place.

you sure must have a hell of a talking point list Tim. You basically said scientists in Germany and the UK don't know anything. Germany is the world leader in green energy, and now they are basically saying they wasted a lot of taxpayer money. You are very solid in your beliefs, but I have never, nor ever will be, a chicken little worried about everything. I guess these greenhouse gases are what caused the glaciers to melt millions of years ago and create the great lakes, Lake Champlain, the candadien lakes, etc. Thankfully in this great country, we can agree to disagree, and then we can go out and fish together, and will even bait your hook! LOL!

just some more perspective from across the Atlantic Ocean........................ Germany leads the world in renewable energy, they have more wind and solar generated electricity than anyone else. And the man responsible for this is Fritz Vahrenholt. He's spent the past 25 years preparing for climate change. And now Fritz is changing his tune. He's written a book , that is a best seller in Germany, that makes the case that any warming in the the past century was due to solar activity and we are now entering a phase of global cooling, due to less solar activity. This is from the German equivalent of Time Magazine, its called " Der Spiegel " , where they've interviewed Vahrenholt and he says he's been " duped by climate change " . He says the IPCC ( International Panel on Climate Change ) is much more a political organization than a scientific organization, and it has been taken over by Greenpeace. Here ........ http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/breaking-global-warming-taboos-i-feel-duped-on-climate-change-a-813814.html And the next alarmist domino to fall has been James Lovelock, England's version of Al Gore. He wrote a book a few years ago, said by the century's end there would be billions dieing from global warming. Now he says he was wrong. Says he can not deny the fact that there has been no global warming for the past 14 years. And that any future warming will be much much less than he claimed just a few years ago. Here is just a bit of the articles on this guys change in thinking http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2134092/Gaia-scientist-James-Lovelock-I-alarmist-climate-change.html?ito=feeds-newsxml http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/jun/15/james-lovelock-interview-gaia-theory?intcmp=122 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2161379/This-meaningless-green-drivel-environment-guru-Scientists-U-turn-doomsday-claim.html http://www.thenewamerican.com/tech/environment/item/11998-%E2%80%9Cclimate-science%E2%80%9D-in-shambles-real-scientists-battle-un-agenda This so-called " scientific consensus " is falling apart. Just Google these two men's names, and you can find numerous interviews , and you can also find a lot of character attacks on these men from the enviro left, who have much profit at stake in this debate. Europe is mired down in economic problems and many in Europe are fixing the cause of a lot of their problems on their cap and trade laws. They are now suffering the economic consequence of expensive energy and re-thinking the entire climate change issue.

great report Bill. It makes the little man realize that not everyone catches them all the time. That is just fishing. A lot can be learned on bad days, and everyone has them. Thanks for being upfront and honest.
