  1. i wouldnt attempt to go especially since all this rain we are getting right now-but if your heard desires and river goes down dont let these guys discourage you from going just because of the hills as cardiac hill is not too bad-just long gradual hill and if you dont take your time it can take its toll on you(hill was named after someone who had heartattack while coming up the hill) suicide on the other hand is dangerous, especially when the ground is wet. one fall and you will find yourself tumbling to the bottom in banged up shape. (lets just say that it takes about 5 mins to get down to the river but you can almost throw a rock from the parking lot and hit water) anyway, i dont know how the fishing will be since flooding. hopefully it washed some holes out and not just cut the banks
  2. ekl-stl its good to see that the 31 inch fish is still alive- i caught him last year- my buddy pointed out that the fish i caught is that same one and if you compare every marking its the same fish my pic wasnt as good though. it is posted at the bottom of the montauk page that is under the thread "photo essay"
  3. nice pics man
  4. nice fish-glad to see he is still out there
  5. fished sunday with the water off color, up, and fast, sight fishing was basically out of the question unless you were real close to the bank on fast moving water-i fished for about 3 hours and landed 18 to 2 dozen. i did not use anything with an indicator. i tried a few things: t and a rainbow-caught 3 smaller fish on it. olive leech-caught several on it. black leech-only a few looks. so i went back to olive with a olive zonker and that was key. i got a ton of hits and a couple bruisers to follow-one commited and i missed and the other just followed it. anyway, it was a better than expected day considering the water clarity. fish sizes varied from around 10 inches up to around 16 inches. and were all caught in zone 1 below the spillover dam and the stretch from the bridge down to the hatchery outlet
  6. sweet great catch patfish!
  7. yeah. i had the green one at first(still have it) but now you will probably see me with the big blue one-also got at anglers and archery
  8. who can and cannot come sat jan 19th
  9. made an outing today to see what was cookin- got there around 9:30. few people down but not many. found nice fish at granny hole- for those of you who know it can be very tricky drift so i drifted a big olive leech and the fish hit it first cast-the fish wasnt as big as i thought he was however but a nice 19 inches or so. then i moved down to fast water below upper bridge and picked up a few but didnt see any big ones so i moved on. caught a few fish on bottom side of step hole where it spills over with one going maybe 3 lbs. moved down and found alot of fish schooled up but i usually dont fish for these fish. fished the upside portion of bathroom hole with no luck for big ones-the bottom side produced another fish that would have went about 3 lbs. after walking the length of the park, i did not find a fish that i could definitely say was over 5 lbs. Last year, usually you would see at least 3 or 4. i know there are a few in there but they dont like me. anyone finding them this year or are you guys seeing the same things i am seeing?
  10. Are you a machinist?just curious because your nick no, actually i shoot alot of archery and my shooting group always called me that because i usually waxed their you know...
  11. nice report jscheetz and nice brown did you see any bruiser rainbows??
  12. king fish, did you see any big ones down there. the 2 or 3 times i have been this year i havent been able to locate them-it has been over a month since i have been there though
  13. either way-great fish looking forward to stirring em up again
  14. here is one of the browns that i caught sorry so late
  15. nice report did you see any big ones down there??
  16. went saturday with john with no real ambition-just enjoying a beautiful day- didnt catch many but we didnt cast much either-saw 2 good ones(one which got away and another which didnt) John stuck a pig female that weighed 7 lbs even-im not so sure that the fish would even go 4 lbs without the belly but hey, it counts right. anyway he got it on a black weighted wooly..i think... and that was the only real highlight we had
  17. i have to give credit to leonard on this one-it is a leech pattern tied with pine squirrel, marabou, and streamer. i did also try an olive wooly bugger tied with red streamer and white hackle and it did almost as well(didnt get to fish it as long due to time)
  18. hmmmmmmmm- these look a bit familiar- i like that one! and that one! and that one! and that!and that! and ooh even better price. i do believe if you cant catch anything on any fly in that box then you need to go somewhere where there is water. these flies fish great and is priced awesome-
  19. fished benett sat december 8th from about 11:30 til 4:00 and the fishing was superb. started below the spring and picked up 5 or 6 on olive size 16 scud and size 12 beaded nymph. all were fairly small(none over 13 inches) then drove down to the bridge and fished below, under, and above it up to and top of the spillover dam. started below the bridge hooking fish at a fairly quick rate in the fast water on olive scud. started to look for some bigger ones and finally found a couple. started working a nice brown(probably 22-23 inches) 2 drifts and i got hung up on overhang branch from bank and the fish spooked as i tried pulling it loose. walked down about 30 yards and found a nice rainbow. it was in a tricky spot and took several drifts to get it-finally it took and it took the line out screaming drag. i had 6x tippet and was keeping my cool but the fish did a belly roll and broke my line. it was a nice rainbow about 5 lbs. found another decent brown 19-20 inches and foul hooked him. netted quickly and popped hook out of his dorsal. started back upstream and found the same brown that i spooked earlier. after about 5 drifts it took and the fight was on. after wearing him down i got him to the net. guessing 5 lbs at about 22-23 inches. took quick pic(which i will post later) released. i then switched to an olive pms slightly modified and the fish swarmed it like pirahnas. mostly small fish until i got closer towards the dam. i flipped it in the middle and up comes a nice brown about the same size as before but missed the hookset. got on the dam and made some casts-hooked and landed a nice nice rainbow-23 inches. i landed it but it did not want to swim off. i didnt bother taking pic because i wanted to revive this thing(one guy from IL saw me catch it) anyway-it did eventually take off strong and i think it was just in shock. i guessed that i landed around 50 fish with most of them being fairly small except the ones mentioned above. it seemed that the overcast and the rain really helped the fishing out. i did notice one guy below the spring and above the handicap jetty giving them trout sore mouths-not sure what he was using but i am guessing he had a high number count when he was done. if you like fishing and dont care about weather it was a fantastic day out on the water.
  20. im stuck working or i would be game for that-im sure someone on here can go though
  21. if monday is the 21st(january) then how about saturday the 19th(january)or whatever day that is?? then if some people are staying the weekend, maybe montauk sunday... oooohhhhh. i hate it when i get crazy ideas like that
  22. most of my bigger fish come in the fly area below the spring and in catch and release area(that is most that i have landed) as far as seeing them, they truly are scattered everywhere. where they are today may be different than tomorrow. its just a matter of getting lucky and finding them
  23. thanks for the info timsfly-it is kind of a long drive and its hard to pass up taney but im going to have to give it a shot-keep the reports coming
  24. since we havent been staying on topic and the holidays are fast approaching how about we move it to january sometime. either the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th saturday of the month
