I think that is why Roaring River doesn't do it anymore. NO CLASS!!!!
-
Edward, It's actually the Chamois San Juan worm. Find one that gets very limp in water. If you have ever seen a drown worm in water it's on the bottom and trout see them there also. They can't resist!! It also looks like guts and you know where they clean fish at Bennett.
-
The fish didn't want anything that was high in the water. I fished a San Juan worm with a very small weigh about a foot above it and then a palsa about 2 feet above it. It had to be on the bottom or no good like the Chiefs!!!! I ended up catching about 25 before 10am. Thanks Laker67. I wish you would have come over.

Made a quick trip to Bennett Sat morning. The weather was wonderful to say the least! It didn't seem like there were a lot of people fishing. The river was in great shape. The water was fairly clear. I started up around the spring and caught a few there and started my walk about. I made it to the bridge and there were several fishing there. I looked over the bridge and there were a few trout but not a lot in there. I went just below the bridge in the shallow swifter water and really had a blast. I caught lots of fish there. It guess it was holding a lot of fish that got away from the crowd under the bridge. I met with a great bunch of friends from Columbia! Great to get to see them!!!!

OAF members. I will be closing the poll on Sunday evening. Please vote!!!! Bigger trout, bigger stories!!! Thank you all for your comments and voteing.

Laker67, I've got saltwater rods!!!! Could you imagine catching a 40+brown!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!
-
I'm offering a 10% off sale on all custom rods for OAF members. The economy has slowed rod sales down this year and I'm trying to stimulate it a little. Check out my web site and see if I can help you get you the perfect rod. My web site addess is at the bottom of the page. Thanks!!!

Shuffling is standing out in the water and moving your feet in the gravel to stir up skuds and such for the trout to eat and dropping your fly around your feet to catch them.

QUOTE (Gavin @ Sep 10 2008, 10:31 AM) I wouldnt mind seeing a ban on shuffling, chumming, and snagging. A crack down on those practices would do a lot to improve the image of the fishery. I totally agree!!!

Flysmallie, Your my kind of guy!!!! I've went down to RR and fished for 30 minutes just to get out many times!!! That hour and a half was still better that 5 great days at work!!!!
-
Bill, The only bad thing I can see with one Brown limit is the people that fish just for the big fish or "lunker hunters". I would love to be one of those that could say I caught a 10+ fish but (there's always one of those "but"s) If you caught your one and you catch a Maybe state record or even a world record of some type you would have to turn it loose because you've caught your one for the year. Only draw back I can see.

Duckkilla, Nice work. Where do you get the bags?? I need to replace one.
-
OK, Let's skin one cat at a time. Right now I would like to know if there is enough interest in the 24" limit. If there is more we should look into we will tackle that once we have looked into this one. (by the way I don't like barbless hooks)
-
bigredbirdfan, That would be SWEET!! But you know the deal! I had one person pm me that he didn't want his tackel torn up with big fish! I think I would love to give a big Brown the chance!!! Thanks to everyone for voting!!! For those who are voting no. Please let me know why? I might be missing something and everyone has a right to their opinion. I will not ridicule. That's not my style. I've always had a open mind. Thanks!!

Dano, That is a great idea about the C of C getting involved!! I'm on it!!! They should say WOW!!! What a great angle!!!!

This subject came up a while back and I did some emailing and talking with a few members and the MDC. It was a common agreement that a 24" length limit among the OAF was favorable. In talking with most they didn't keep any Browns anyway but to know that everyone would have to follow the same length limit would be good. Please vote and post your comments. Thank you!!!! PS. At this time 2:30PM 160 people have looked at the poll and only 14 have voted. Please vote. Every vote counted is what the MDC is looking for!!!

OKFlyFisher44, The bamboo is a total different beast! Like they said they are slow action! But one of the great things about them is that it will make you pay attention to what your doing!! Cast right or end up in a birds nest or hooked! I let my daughters fish with one of mine and it has helped them when they use the graphite rods. You also have to watch how you treat them. They will bend weird if you put them up wrong.

Soggyfeet, Humble beginnings, Enlightend men? Anyone that can lie to a grand jury and actually put skeletons in the closets. (That's a great man. ha!) 100 days in actual office? Leader? Bill has never been in ordinary shoes and neither has Nobama! Please don't play the race card. This is a mix of comments that you can take or leave but true.

Below is a email that Mike Kruse sent me today. Very Nice Guy! Read it and see what you think. I think that the Survey clerks are good idea but (there's always a "but") Are they there at night? Are they talking to the tourists? I think this is the only way with the servey clerks taking polls that they can find out what the people want. Thank you Mike and MDC for helping us to have one of the best trout fisheries in the country!!!! They are the ones that have made Taney #1!!!! I was involved in establishing and evaluating the fishing regulations in Lake Taneycomo from 1993-2002. During that time we conducted a survey of anglers fishing Lake Taneycomo. Survey clerks interviewed anglers fishing throughout the lake during all months of the year. From that survey we determined that nearly all of the legal size brown trout that anglers caught were voluntarily released. Depending on the year, our estimates of the percentage of legal size brown trout (greater than or equal to 20 inches) that were released ranged from 98 percent to nearly 100 percent. Under those high levels of voluntary release, it is doubtful that a higher length limit would increase the number of large brown trout by any measurable amount. We are currently conducting another angler survey at Lake Taneycomo and it will allow us to determine if voluntary release rates or other elements of angler effort and success have changed since the last survey. Such information will help determine if any changes to fishing regulations are needed. Again, I will make sure staff conducting this survey are aware of your suggestion as they evaluate the results. Thanks for your interest in Lake Taneycomo fishing regulations. I hope the upcoming fall season brings you many fishing opportunities and that you are successful in catching some big brown trout! KK, Your 5/6wt will be fine. I've sent out a couple emails to some people to see who we need to get this started with. Just a question. Is it OK for boaters to use power bait in the slot area behind the dam?? I don't boat so I was just wondering.
-
You know I've got both hands up for that vote!!! One other question comes up. Are they going to check the boats that run to the cable and fish with anything they want and keep what they want?? That would be a sweet thing for Taney and all trout there. I'm guilty of weighing trout in C&R season. I get too curious!
-
I was wondering what was going on!! It was more like a small lake than a river. I haven't seen what Taney looks like after all the summer flow so it was a little scary wading around. With the squid somewhere lurking I didn't want to step off in a deep hole and give him a chance at me!!! It was still great fishing!!!
-
I also find it impossible to believe that they are 16. My 8 year old daughter looks older than they do. The judgeing is also a heap of dung. I would bet that the chicken ---- Olympic com will not addess anything until they get out of the country where they think they will be safe. If we play by the rules so should everyone else!!! I am impressed with Bolt!! I just wish he would finish a race!

CATMAN ON A ROLL!!!!!! I like it!!
