  1. Let me clarify the tangled lines....it was there own lines.....the 9 year old does pretty good but the 5 year old is one of those " I know how grandpa" but really doesn't. Just gonna take some time on the water. They do good in the back yard, but too excited when we get to the water.
  2. SO, Sunday turned out to be pretty good. With rain in the forecast and the crowd was not bad. Dropped my fly fishing buddies off at the spring and headed back down to the bridge(first one) to get the grandsons going. Power egg was the bait a choice for a 5 and 9 year old and they started catching right off the get go( didn't get on the water til 9am). After an hour or so of untangling lines and such decided to take a hike from the bridge down to behind the lodge....back up to the bridge for lunch around 1pm...took the youngest over and caught a nice little 1lber on a crackleback with the 5wt and the fight was on.....the trout won as he hand the rod back to me.......my other buddies showed up from walking down from the spring and caught plenty of fish on pheasant tail, cackleback and wooly buggers......fish were running a little smaller than the last time we were there but stil fun......oldest grandson now wants a fly rod. Got our fishs cleaned and back on the road around 4pm.....beautiful day!!
  3. Headed down to introduce my grandson to trout, fairy wands and fly rods. I was looking for some recent info but since nobody posts anything here I got nobody to blame but myself All the times I've went down and not given a report...so shame on me. Check back Monday for an in depth somewhat tantalizing review with a twist of lemon! (yea, you can tell I'm bored)
  4. It all don't matter to me......probably will never join anyhow. Headed to Montauk this weekend to try and fish among the fairy wand swingers. Ness, dude, I gotta know what that avatar is all about, its creeping me out....no offense or anything, I'm sure your a great guy. Just trying to keep an old thread going since nobody posts on the Montauk forum anyway.
  5. Nice fish!
  6. Nice report, nice pics.....that one brown looked like a fat pig!!
  7. Just my 2 cents....the AGM batteries seem to last longer with maint. charger.....little more expensive but worth it in the long run.
  8. Nice report....looks like a great trip to me...anytime you catch fish and can get out and enjoy the outdoors.
  9. Wondered if anybody has been fishing the Gasconade since the big flood.....is the Jerome ramp still closed?
  10. Only been there 3 times with a boat, but if I were wade fishing, which I did up by the dam and it was great(kinda towards the end of the camp ground)...zebra midge(black silver) 4ft under a thinga ma bob. Park at the boat ramp at Wildcat Shoals would be my second choice.....better yet stop in at Dallys Fly Shop and talk to those guys or that fly shop up by the dam(west side) everybody down there is real helpful so don't be afraid to ask. Or you could go to Blue Heron camp ground, talk to Terry and pay 5 bucks to access his property, lots of access there upstream and down. I hope you get more responses, but from my experience ON HERE.....theres more people who want to just read and not do a whole lot of contributing......thank goodness for John Berry and Phil Lilley.......I've learned more about the White and Taney from reading their info...woulda took me at least a dozen trips and still not figure it all out. Make sure you post a report when you get back....I live vicariously through other peoples reports....I think I have an addiction!!
  11. Headed down to the White River/Cotter Friday am. stopped by Dallys to get the latest low down, Steve and his guys hooked us up with what ended up working out very well. Skies were high and the sun was bright, but still managed to score 2 nice 18" browns just up from Cotter bridge right off the get go.....things went south from there. Long story short for 3 days we caught around 30 bows and the 2 browns and seen a couple monsters. The only water we seen was one unit, even though they were suppose to turn on 3 Friday pm, didn't get down to us by dark. The 16ft john with 25hp rude did pretty good most of the major shoals were not runnable at that level. All our fish came on San Juan Worms, Zebra Midges, Pheasant Tails and a fly that I tie called the "pig", have no idea why they hit it but they do, its like a giant black woolly worm with barbell eyes. Did catch one fish on a hopper. Sorry no pics, I didn't take any......no time for that unless they are big. Oh, on another note, we stayed at the Blue Heron Camp ground and stayed in Terrys 2 man sleeper cabin for 40 bucks a night, fridge, micro and 2 beds, all a guy needs who wants to fish for 14 hours a day. Note to self.....try and go down the next time they are running at least 2 units of water and its either raining or overcast. Big thanks to John Berry for all his work posting reports all the time on here... greatly appreciated...if I win the lottery this weekend, I will hire you as a guide all the time. Not real good at posting reports, but there are so many guys that could and don't, I thought I would at least try.
  12. Nice write up and great pictures....thanks very much for sharing! I've never done that trip.....now I will have to!!
  13. So thats how they catch big browns on the White, I new there was a trick. It doesn't matter anyway, the White is NOT a waterway natural to brown trout, all manmade and browns are not indigenous to Arkansas, so no matter how big of a brown you catch.....IT DON'T COUNT..........., its all manipulated by man, pretty much the same as chumming if you think about it. Just my opinion, not here to defend it, just trying to throw another perspective into the light. I do agree no chumming AND although I'm a fly guy I think there should be single hook only NO barbs.......the dropper stuff, thats about the same as chumming. Its all in how you perceive "how it should be". Yea, I'm probably crazy but I can be, I'm old....LOL
  14. Crocker, nice fish man! Glad you all had a good time.
  15. Nice report TJ.....awesome pics....makes me wanna go down there.
  16. John, from what I've seen on the generations charts lately looks like they have been running a good amount water 24/7. Do you think they will continue this trend for a while......or is this just a temporary thing to bring the lake level down??? Are they running more water than normal? And if so how long would you expect it to last......trying my darnedest to get down there but things aren't working out right now.
  17. Always great to see something like this especially since I'll be there in 2 weeks. Congrats!!
  18. I am guessing that the next accces point up stream would be Boiling Springs??? I would imagine they got wiped out also. I crossed the Gasconade today on I-44 and the water looked pretty good. Has anybody been out fishing since the flood???
  19. Sad to see this especially for those who live close by and have been affected. Whats really scary is that I don't think they predicted this much rain, so nobody knew it was coming to the degree it did.
  20. My buddy told me next time(if there is one) I hook something like that he's cutting the line and giving me 5 bucks for my tiny torpedo so he don't have to loose an hour of fishing time....LOL.
  21. Very nice fish and nice looking young lady to go with it! Tell your wife congrats!!!
  22. Nice report!!! So I looked up this Damiki Dolphin( kinda new to this smallmouth fishing).....holy minoly they are proud of that bait $11.99, but I guess if it catches fish, what the heck!
  23. Very unfortunate.
  24. Nice report 405.....makes me wanna get out there again this weekend(did Gasconade last weekend)....the water looks awesome.....glad you had a good time and thanks for putting up a report.....when I can't fish I look for something to read and I depend on this website for my "fix".
