Thanks JD for the info. just what i was looking for. This is the second year for these plants and, your right, they look like they will be loading with berries.
-
I planted some strawberries last spring and they grew like crazy and spread out to take over two of my raised beds. This year they have a bunch of blooms which means i should have a bunch of berries right? But i have never grown them before and i am not sure what i should be doing to help the plants produce nice berries. Fertilize? Thin them back some? How much water? Any help would be appreciated.

Stuart, your right about the big boats flying all over. We did the poker run Saturday in a 27’ sea ray and it felt small out there in the main channel. LOZ is the chiropractors best friend. If you look at the water patrol website that list all the incidents from each part of the state, LOZ always has a numbers of falls within boats that shows people had to be transported to the hospital from injuries after bouncing around in rough water. We actually rescued a couple of older teenagers on a jet ski in the middle of the day Saturday. They had broken down and were bobbing in the middle of the channel. So as we went by we stopped to asked them if they needed help. They said yes so we threw them a rope to tow them to their dock. It turned out to be a lot harder than we thought with all the boats and rough water and at one point the jet ski looked like it was going to sink from taken on water. When the happened the one kid panicked and jumped in the water and then looked like he was going into shock by how cold the water was. I was afraid I was going to have to jump in to get him but managed to get the ladder down and help him on the boat. But he was visibly shaken and said he thought he was going to die. It was scary but funny watching him try to manage in the cold water. With him off the ski it made it a little easier to tow and we finally got them back and went on our way.

The wife and I were also down this past weekend staying at a condo by the Grand Glaize bridge. Fishing off the condo docks, I caught about 75 fish from Friday evening to Sunday morning. I only fished each morning till about 9:00 and then fished Friday and Saturday night after dark. I too cleaned the 25 biggest crappie that were all between 11”-14”. 75% of the fish I caught were caught on a white Zig Jig with the silver tinsel body. Using the Zig Jig I also caught 5 bass, the biggest was 15”(and I caught it twice), 1 catfish that went about 5lbs, 4 drum, (1 that took me 5 minutes to land), a few bluegill and a couple white bass that were small. The other crappie I caught on a chartreuse and white bobby garland jig. Almost all the crappie were caught vertical jigging. The fish were at various depths from 5 fow to about 20 fow. Most all the other fish were caught when I cast the zig jig down the bank and worked it slowly back about 5’ out.

Definitely a crappie. If you said it was only 13” I doubt it was 2.5-3lbs. but it looks longer than 13”. Here is one from LOZ I caught earlier in April and it was 14” and it was probably 1.5 lbs.

does it? i thought that is what he saId. bridge pier way in the back of the gravous and i thought he said 54. they were interviewing him on the stage and it was hard to hear. what bridge is back there? I am not that familar with the lake.

My partner and I were there Thursday through Sunday. Tried to prefish Thursday but with all the rain and tornadoe sirens going off we spent most of the day on the condo dock. But during the short time we were able to fish, we both caught some bass including a couple around 4lbs. Ended up catching a bunch of really nice crappie off the dock. Friday we got to bass fished all day and caught a few more bass including a 5.5 on a spinnerbait. We were fishing back in the Grand Glaize. We found water temps around 49 by the bridge but 51 to 53 back in the GG. Then we came back and caught some more nice crappie off the dock. Saturday we went right back to the cove where we caught the 5.5 and got there at 6:15 and there was already 4 boats there. We tried to fish but ended up going out to try some points. We caught some bass here and there on jerkbaits and a spinnerbait but nothing big or close to 4lbs. Sunday we decided to head out to the Osage to try and get away from all the boat traffic but still only had a couple small bass. We ended up with two bags of big crappie filets but nothing to show for the tournament. The guy who caught the biggest bass said he caught it all the way back in the Gravois arm fishing a jig and trailer flipping alongside the 54 bridge pier. Second big bass came from the Gravois as well and was caught on a Texas rigged soft plastic. Think he said some kind of tube.

Welcome back. If you have pictures of the boat you built yourself it would be great to see them.

ok i will ask, what is your 410 education plan. i am guessing you are shooting at them with a 410?

This other article talks about that very thing-about how pro teams want a quarterback to come with some swag and be a leader. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/how-johnny-manziel-s--flair--changed-pro-day-for-future-nfl-quarterbacks-215031779-nfl.html Your right about the running quarterbacks. They look great for a few years and then the hits take their toll and they go downhill. Same with guys that sit in the pocket and don’t get rid of the ball quick enough and get hit over and over like Bradford with the Rams. After enough hits and sacks they get happy feet in the pocket and passes start going all over. Be interesting to see how he turns out.

Mosmallies, those are some beauties for sure. Did you measure or weigh them?
-
Great picture. I have two daughters that are both in there twentys now and some of my fondest memories are fishing with them when they were about that age. I am sure she will remember it as well. The gummy bear thing remided me of one time in my boat when my buddy said hey hope you dont mind, i ate that jerky you had in the bag under the seat. And i said i didn't bring any jerky. then he said really? then what did i just eat?

The Big Bash Bass is the first weekend of April and i think you are right might be hitting there at a good time for big prespawn bass.
-
Ok Old Plug got it. My mistake. I thought you were talking about fishing during the Big Bass Bash next weekend. WhardRat, definitely hear you. My buddy and his brother caught 70 Saturday and he said the same thing. Best size of crappie he has seen in a while. Can't wait to get down there next week.
-
Old Plug, I would be amazed to find any crappie on beds next weekend let alone Bass. Aren't you the one who keeps talking about how cold the lake is? I am thinking everything is still prespawn right now and will be fishing accordingly.

Yeah I like the format of the BBB because people like me who don’t fish for bass that often in a big reservoir can maybe get lucky enough to catch one big one in two days of trying. I figure I could probably not catch 5 decent bass to compete in a regular tournament but catching one, maybe I can do. Kind of like the blind squirrel and the acorn thing. My partner and I have managed to get one that paid off each time so far and have managed to cover our entry fee and some of the other expenses. And who knows, maybe this is the year we will get lucky enough to get a really big one and cash one of the top prizes. I sure everyone who enters thinks the same thing.
-
Wharfrat, nice boat. Are you planning on using it in the Big Bass Bash next weekend? We will be the Thursday next week and stay through Sunday to fish the BBB. Hopefully we can get into some of the crappie you and others have been talking about as well.

Nice. Current River marine is where my Blazer came from. Love to see some pics of it. You don't see many center console's, at least where i am on the Meramec, and I always wonder why. There is one guy i see and he stands at the center console when he is driving and it looks like it is desinged that way. Seems like a good idea.

Very nice fish. Sounds like a good time. I got out for a couple hours myself yesterday. Caught a few including a couple on a white spinner bait. It was beautiful on the river for sure. I would love to see some warm rain and maybe a little rise that would give the river some color but it doesn't look like that will be happening anytime soon.

Actually I think it is more likely guys are tired of being abused about everything they report when they do report. A nice report about a guy having a great time fishing for bass with his dad turns into a debate about fishing in pay lakes and put and take fishing. Somebody else posts about smallmouth fishing on the Gasconade and it turns into a rant about gigging. (Not that I am for gigging gamefish. Don’t want to rile anybody up). Seems like you can’t post where you caught your fish, what you were using, or anything related to your outing without one of the regulars going off about it. Hardly worth posting knowing someone will come back with something negative. Yeah I know it’s a public forum so you have to expect some abuse. Well actually you don’t. You can just not post anything or go somewhere else to do it.

i was thinking the same thing. It went from a forum about the weather and snow to being hijacked by dillos. -

That is probably the one good thing you can say about this winter. With all the cold and ice, the fish have not seen as much fishing pressure this year like a lot of winters in the past. Crappie especially should be a little more plentiful once the weather finally breaks. Although it could be one of those springs where it stays cold all the way through March and then gets warm in April and all the fish spawn at the same time in a two week window. It will make for some crazy fishing if that happens. -
Pflueger presidents here also. i have 3 now. Like everyone else says, best reel for the money.
