  1. Thank you Russ!
  2. How did you fish the sculpin flies? Glad that you share your expertise with others!
  3. Wow! You have an awesome blog and website! Welcome!
  4. Congratulations on your faithful service to so many. I have learned so much from you through this forum!
  5. They were size 16 BWO.
  6. My son and I were fishing in zone 2 just below the hatchery outlet on Wednesday. We noticed the trout beginning to come up near the surface so we both put on blue winged olive dry flies. I threw mine out and couldn´t believe that my son cast his fly just about 4 feet from my fly. A second later a rainbow smashed my fly and within another second my son´s fly was hammered by another fish! We both landed our fish, our first double on dry flies. It was great!
  7. Windows at work and Mac at home. Bought both my daughters Macbooks for college. They have both graduated. Amount of time I had to spend to fix their laptops? ZERO!
  8. The wallet will recover and live again to die many more times, ha ha. I wish I didn't know what I am talking about...
  9. Just sold! Thanks!
  10. Awesome trip and great fish! Enjoyed the song at the end too!
  11. He took my son out during the PROJECT HEALING WATERS event last summer. Lyndon caught a 23" inch rainbow, the biggest of his life! A great guide!
  12. Would like to sell this hardly used and in great shape vest for $20. I have switched to a chest pack. Call or text 417.849.7860 in Willard, MO.
  13. First time this year to fish during the Catch and Release season, and no crowds on Black Friday! It was quiet (very few anglers) and great fishing. Everyone was catching fish and bragging about being on the stream instead of in a shopping mall. I caught around 15 fish all together, starting around 10:30 am in zone 2 on a rusty midge, ruby midge, primrose and pearl midge, orange soft hackle and a chamois san juan worm. Readings Fly shop recommended that I go in the afternoon to zone 1 along side of the island above the dam for some dry fly action. Around 2 pm I took their advice and used a blue olive dun or a creme mayfly imitation and it was awesome. Some other anglers did even better using the Renegade.
  14. I saw Not Yet Begun To Fight last night on PBS. Powerful! Thanks to all the veterans and to everyone that uses fly-fishing to bless their lives!
  15. Went Saturday afternoon to fish from 1:30 to 6:30 pm. Not too big of a crowd. What struck me was that the fish were very small. I caught 8 but only 2 keepers and they were barely 12 inches. Also did not see anyone catch a fish over 14 inches. The action was slow to average. We caught fish with small scuds and a tri color glo ball. Then had some top water action on the renegade. It was a fun time but the small size of fish concerns me.
  16. We have learned so much by joining the Missouri Trout Fishermen´s Association. It is a great group of people! Here is the link to their web page: http://mtfa-springfield.org/
  17. If you live within an easy drive to trout waters, then i wouldn't think twice about taking up fly fishing...
  18. I want to thank Phil Lilley for hosting the Project Healing Waters event this past weekend. I also want to thank Russ Doughty for inviting my son, a disabled veteran, to have simply the best time of his life! My son has all the bragging rights in our house after he caught this nice 23 inch rainbow! Thanks!
  19. No, he caught that fish around noon and just bought new waders and boots. I agree, it was slow...
  20. That was a great video! Thanks!
  21. First time to fish here on a Saturday morning. Lots of anglers, water is still high, green, but very fishable though it was slow today with most people just catching recently stocked rainbows. Managed to catch 4 on a white/pink glow ball, tan scud, chamois san juan worm and a renegade. My son threw out a dry fly near the bank in zone 2 and I was just about to tell him that it made no sense when I heard a crushing splash and I looked over to see my son's rod fully bent! He was using a patriot fly and it was crushed. He landed the fish and I am glad that I kept my mouth shut. Then about 8 trout started feeding on the surface just below where the hatchery outlet meets the spring in zone 2. That's when I got out the renegade and caught my last fish. Had a great time but I prefer to fish on the weekdays...
  22. My son and I fished Bennett yesterday afternoon from 4 to 8:30 pm. Generally it was somewhere between average and slow as we worked zone 2. We finally decided to go to zone 1 and made our way to the handicapped ramp. I caught a nice 15 inch rainbow on the surface with a pearl green crackleback. At about 8:25 my son said "Look at the school of trout" and we saw at least 20 fish feeding on the surface just out and below the ramp. We both started to salivate and threw our dry flies. My son had a renegade and I still had the crackleback and we both landed fish on our last cast of the day. I was still fighting my fish when the siren went off. It was great!
  23. I grew up in South County but now live near Springfield, MO. Went to Mehlville High School.
  24. Thanks Phil! A question, when the lake level is over 704 say up to 708, is there any way to fish just below the dam where the chutes are? I understand that you really can't wade but I haven't been fishing for so long and hope that something changes.
