  1. All you guys going on about American Sniper - 100% agreement. It was a LOT better movie than I expected. Really got to the hard parts about what war does to people that fight them and their families. Great movie.

    Ned Rig

Everybody should always fish with what they want to fish with. If you're not asking for advice and don't want it or need it I see no need to dump on people who are answering other people's questions about any particular bait or method or to dump on a method you don't use or care for. It's a low class way of doing business if you ask me.

    What's Cooking?

Tough life. Especially for an eggplant addict like me. Eggplant had salt, pepper, champagne balsamic vinegar and basil EVOO. Salad had in addition to the greens a couple of grapes, a strawberry, roasted red pepper and a few peanuts. Vinegar and oil dressing. Simple, Good.

Here's an amazingly easy and good more or less light dessert cake: Box of angel food cake mix. Can of crushed pineapple. Mix them together - standby for foam. Bake in a 9x12 at 375 until brown on top about 40 minutes. Poor man's pineapple upside down cake. It really is good.

I ride bikes, sometimes hard. One of my favorite things for when you come back in worn plum out is to heat up a can of blackeyed peas, again with a little sugar and salt and butter cause there is no time for bacon. Recharge your electrolytes, get some protein, some fiber, enough fat to get some energy back right now and some gas, all out of one bowl. Heavenly.

    What's Cooking?

That's too bad. Both of those things are great flavors for me. Fresh blackeyed peas cooked with a little bacon, sugar and salt with sweet onion chopped on top and a piece of fresh hot cornbread makes me think nice things about my ex-wife's family. That good.

    What's Cooking?

Yes, pinto beans are brown beans. Chili for me nearly always gets a bean medley. Pinto, Great Northern, Kidney, sometimes White Kidney, sometimes Butter Beans, sometimes Blackeyed Peas (one of my most favoritest beans evar!) sometimes when I'm feeling really wild a can of chickpeas. Chili is always so much fun.

Lovey and I are going to grill a couple of hamburgers and some eggplant. If you've never topped a burger with a slice of eggplant, you have yet to live life to it's fullest. Got a head of local hydroponic grown butter crunch lettuce, a bag of arugula, a bag of watercress and a bag of mixed sprouts yesterday at the Farmer's Market. Salad baby! Salad!
  17. I'd heard and read about this place. Buffalo River country, close to Ponca. Lovey and I took the day to drive down there, walk a couple of trails and have a good meal. It was better than good. We were too early for the Prime Rib which my MC riding buddy says is the best he's ever had. Settled on a Calimari with Spicy Marinara appetizer, - super good. Calimari was fresh, termpura style light batter, fried with batter done and crispy but the calamari still tender. The Marinara was among the best. Tomato taste out of this world, chunky and spicy enough to break a little bit of sweat but not overpower the caliimari, served hot. Highly recommended. Lovey had chicken fried steak. I figured it would probably be OK when we heard them pounding it out in the kitchen. I had Chicken Marsala. Both came with salad or soup. We got salads with the house mandarin orange vinaigrette. Not a huge salad, just enough and good fresh greens. The dressing was a real treat with chunks of mandarin orange to set off the bite of the vinegar. Really nice. Lovey's Chicken Fried Steak was perfect. Not one of those joke sized platters of previously breaded and frozen round steak tossed in the deep fryer and then covered with gravy from a mix. A plenty nice piece of steak, freshly breaded and pan friend like a proper chicken fried steak is, homemade mashed potatoes with plenty of tasty lumps and some really good tasting fresh cream gravy. Like my grandmother used to make. Sauteed mixed vegetables alongside. Good portions of all, but like I said, not stupid. The Chicken Marsala was as good as any I've had. Fresh mushrooms, yellow, red and green bell peppers in the Marsala, Not one Chicken breast, but two. Not breaded, just sautéed until tender done in the Marsala and then plated. My side was saffron rice and the sautéed mixed vegetables. I especially liked the veggies, they were tender crisp and seasoned with some oregano. Simple and super good. Dessert was a piece of homemade coconut cream pie. That crust surely had to be made with lard, tasty and flaky. There was a drizzle of mango reduction on the plate that you could smear your bite of pie through if you were so inclined. Glad we ordered it. Another highly recommended place, a little out of the way but really quality food served by locals who know food and care about getting it cooked right and served to you in a really nice and friendly atmosphere. The getting there and back is a bonus. One of the prettiest areas around. Worth the drive if you have the time. And definitely do not pass it up if you are in the area.

When I was a kid I used to mix grape jelly with my scrambled eggs. But it's been a while.
  19. I've said it before and here's my chance to say it again. Nice fish. Every big fish got started as a little fish. Loved the pictures, thanks for posting.
  20. Whooo Doggies! Nice ones there!
  21. Ghostbusters. Spies Like Us. There's Something About Mary. City Slickers. A Fish Called Wanda. And for another great movie that is a total downer: American Beauty. Kevin Spacey was also really good in L.A. Confidendial.
  22. The Jerk. Christmas Vacation. Good Fellas. Casino. Get Shorty. Scarface.

  24. I noticed Taneycomo was bank full when I crossed over it at Hwy 65 this evening. COE is making some room in TR. Can't say as I blame them. I know the lake manager and he is a smart and cautious guy.
  25. Has The Wild Bunch been mentioned yet? And now for something completely different: Big Trouble in Little China. And the China thing makes me think of Chinatown. Great thread Ness!
