  1. It was off the deep side, we were crossing from the east to the west. Tire was in about three feet of water with the frame sitting on the slab. I still don't know how we actually got out of that spot other than being incredibly lucky.
  2. Taberville brings back fond memories of a time when I was young and curious instead of old and confused. It would have been quite something indeed to have a prairie chicken dance on your head.
  3. Arkansas does not do a very good job regulating human wastewater either. Ask Oklahoma.
  4. Not usually.
  5. Taneycomo is too cold to wade wet even in August. Waders or fish off one of the docks are your options without a boat.
  6. I cross Green Bridge twice a day (once when it's light enough to see it). It was about two feet high and moderately colored yesterday afternoon. You should be fine. I'll tell a story on myself and the Finley. Sunday morning the wife and I like to go for a ride. We were out by Fordland and went down Olga Road. The river was coming up and was a little colored. There was maybe a foot of water over the low water slab. I could see the slab (kind of) and over Lovey's strong objections, started to cross. Made it about ten feet before I dropped the left front off the slab. Not a good feeling. I knew it was going to be walk back to the nearest place and see if someone would pull me out. Lovey being the smart lady that she is said let's at least try to rock it and see if we can back out. I got out into waist deep nice cool Finley and did my best to lift bumper and shove backwards. I apparently had superhuman strength at the moment because that Cherokee came right back up on the slab and out of the river. Talk about a cheap lesson.
  7. Everything has to be somewhere and this operation is no exception. But just because it has to be somewhere, in my considered opinion it doesn't have to be in the Buffalo watershed. There was a similar set to not long ago about a CAFO going in close to Roaring River. Pretty sure it went in and hasn't had problems yet. But that still doesn't make it smart to put a CAFO in a place where if there is a problem it's sure to be a biggie. From what I've read though, this is going to be a tough one to stop from happening, regulations not being written considering this sort of issue and so on.
  8. If you're not wading another option close to where you're staying is the Fall Creek Boat Dock. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fall-Creek-Marina-Trout-Dock/163921233635219
  9. Too windy today was what it was.
  10. Awesome Chief.
  11. I drove over the river today at Galena. Beautiful to see some nice water in it. Really looking forward to getting the bottom of the boat wet on Saturday.
  12. James on Saturday. Saturday being 3/9/13. Probably put in at Shelvin.
  13. Hard to beat the $499 perception pescador at Academy. Same boat as the old Tarpon 120 for half the price. it's a 12 foot boat that is comfortable, handles well and is a proven design. You can't stand in it though. BFD for me, when I want to stand up, I just get out.
  14. Opening day is a good party and an opportunity to have fresh fish for breakfast, even if they are hatchery babies. A lot of fun so long as you go with the right attitude. Anyone going to a trout park looking for anything other than a trout park fishing experience will only be disappointed. If you don't like it, don't go is an easy way to deal with it.
  15. Who in a position of leadership in either Jefferson City or Washington D.C. do you trust to work towards getting anything meaningful done? I do note that the Republican congress is going to work to remove the DOD cuts from sequestration. And the White House isn't saying anything about veto either. Military Industrial Complex above all else I guess. Very disappointing, and has been for a long long time.
  16. Nice one Chief.
  17. We're getting some much needed moisture, in a very nice way.
  18. I just had a thought. Chief, is that some kind of self portrait thing?
  19. I like the ones with fish and young people in them better.
  20. Normally alone, unless I'm with somebody. I surely prefer to be in canoe or kayak alone.
  21. Try the Lienenkugel Big Eddy for something big and I mean really big. Not a flavored beer. I can't stand any of those either, even a Belgian White is ick to me.
  22. Pretty much. He's from Bolivar and has had a few local papers print his columns. It's been a long time since I've seen a fresh one though.

Ok, honestly. Hell if I know. It happened about 25 years ago in late May on the Niangua above Bennett, second day of a two day float trip where it rained about two inches the first night. Obviously a big rise. I was fishing a big aluminum lip crawdaddy crankbait, maybe a Bomber or something? I guessed the fish at about 6 pounds. So what would that measure? I do not have a clue. But it was a big fish, by far the largest smallmouth I've ever caught before or since.
  24. Dammit I told her to stop putting that pic up on the net.
  25. I did. Plus I banged my wife there in 1970. That place has a special place in the old memory banks.
