  1. I'll have take a look. I've been curious about the rebar and the gravel bar below the last hatchery outlet.
  2. you probably should have said "yes, and you'll know you have it right when you here the line snap behind you".
  3. Very interesting. I didn't realize there were that many grassies outside of lakes where they have been stocked. I've used the perfection loop for decades for leader to tippet, but never for the terminal end. Couple of questions, what brand/model is your yak and how do you like the Konic?
  4. I think sometimes it is just an individual thing Ham. There is no doubt the Spooks will catch fish, but I personally can't seem to get them to work for me like a Sammy. I'm sure an individuals coordination probably comes into play some.
  5. Excellent advice.
  6. rps do you think the lure is the attraction or the paint, or of course a little of both? I have a hard time weaning from some Sammy's.
  7. Those look great, but around my house you're in for a 13 year wait.
  8. While it's certainly possible that some did, I don't know how anyone would know for sure. Unless it has changed you can only fish upstream from the bridge. You might want to concentrate on Fellows where they have a better population. I saw one caught by a child near the marina on Mothers Day, it was about 16-18" long and caught off of the bank. I suppose where there are little ones there could be bigger ones.
  9. Yeah, but unfortunately not in front of your kids. Fortunately you probably have some much better memories with your kids than this slob that intruded on a few minutes of the trip. Don't get yourself all wadded up Greg. Whether you call it stress, a hassle or an overdose of BS, it's not worth keeping oneself fired up over it, it ain't worth the hassle because if that guy isn't there some other a-hole will eventually show up. I've fished BS longer than most and it is one of the negatives of the trout parks, it's been going on as long as I can remember.
  10. I wouldn't deliberately harm anyone with my flyrod, but I'm not everyone's keeper either, they'll learn.
  11. Why don't you give Tim a holler and ask for his recommendations?
  12. No ding ding ding, it's not worth the hassle. Like Cricket said, report the incident and then go somewhere else. Even reporting it is probably a waste, you can't pee up a rope.
  13. You don't say whether or not you have a shuttle or if you need water at the door?
  14. This narrows the list and in my experience leaves you with the Buffalo, if you don't want to float the same water more than one day. Tyler Bend and Buffalo Point both have showers and you could do above one day and below the next.
  15. There's no doubt that the guy is an a hole, but he did give you warning by sitting in a chair. Right then the something ain't right light should have gone on. Next time go down to the Long hole, you're more apt to find enough space to spread some youngsters out and the fish bite just as well there.
  16. I believe in Arkansas you can get a ticket for not having litter bag that is secure and can be closed. If I remember right.
  17. I dug around and found a whole grizzly skin. Maybe I should test the water with it?
  18. For the Niangua it goes back to a total lack of doing your job, AKA the department of natural resources. In the early 80's when it was obvious the the Niangua was losing its natural attraction and the environment was being trampled by an ever increasing number of canoes being put on the river, they jumped on the bandwagon and started renting them to. It's amazing that you can still tell what brand of beer can is on the bottom in many areas. No get me started on a department that's a total failure.
  19. I'm not commenting on the good the bad or the evil of it, just that they have been doing it a long, long time.
  20. They do and they have for decades, it's probably the most effective method they have.
  21. Given the heat they probably have quit putting in at Moon Valley. The shuttle to Proserpine is a killer, but if you're doing it yourself Barclay to Prosperine shouldn't be crowded. I wouldn't do the lead mine link without some knowledge because no one cleans anything after a flood, or floods, and it can get worse the farther down river you go.
  22. I wouldn't doubt it. Shimano has found out that they can add a little here and there, raise the price and sell a ton of them. I have 4 "old" Curado's and one new one and while the new one is a very good reel, I'm not convinced that it can do anything my old one's can't. I bought the new one because of the ratio, not to replace an old one. The bottom line is that bearings make a spinning reel smoother and only 4 can help a baitcaster and nothing more, yet the manufacturers are putting emphasis on the number of ball bearings. The famous old Abu 5000 that started the trend toward high end free spool reels had no ball bearings. It's like diesel pickups, the ones 5 years old will pull virtually anything you're likely to pull, they keep adding HP and torque.
  23. The key word in Eric's statement is "accurate". Once you release a cast with a spinning reel you lose all immediate control of it. With a baitcaster you never lose control through the complete cast. Then there's the 90 degree turn that the line must make, hopefully without stretching on one side or rolling into a future twist. Many believe distance is a strong point of spinning reels, but most records have been held by baitcasters. For me the only job for a spinning reel is what a baitcaster can't do, the real light stuff, or when using one rod and having to include light lures in the mix. Baitcasters aren't still around being perfected and improved because they are inferior. They aren't a lazy mans reel, they take some practice to develop the necessary skills to bring out the advantages.
  24. You can't overlook rain on a snowpack, also unpredictable, that multiplies the runoff. In the period I lived in OR virtually all of the floods were caused by heavy rain on a snowpack.
  25. I think he means mile marker 50 to 58. In the Bear and Yocum creek area.
