  1. I don't know what does now, but he used to go once a year to some far away exotic place.
  2. I doubt it, probably an admission by the corp that they're between a rock and a hard place. Thy have own up to the environmentalist, the farmers, the home owners and the power companies. They have do it in spite of Mother Nature and they don't call it Father Nature for a good reason. They should have stuck with channel management and a few dams to control minor flooding and let the rest alone.
  3. The problems with the levees are starting to surface. The '51 flood had a higher discharge, but lower crest than in '93. The levees don't allow the water to spread, but by keeping it channeled it creates a fuller bucket, and if it leaks or unloads the damage is looking to be worse.
  4. So it's going to top the levees in the NW portion? How about I-29 where it runs in what I would call the bottom.
  5. Hmmmm. Fort Niangua?
  6. Yea, but the dam is a fish magnet when the flow is on. Which arm are you on?
  7. Not only that he goes fishing once a year.
  8. We check out the spillway end Saturday and there weren't many there, but those that were seemed to be doing OK on the crappie.
  9. No doubt about that. They survived on prices and passing on good knowledge from the crowd Wrench is talking about. You also have to remember that a large number of the crowd is either no longer with us or not fishing. Jerry and Brenda made a good transition from the Weavers, but their in- crowd had been around a long time. It was the only place to buy Marabou jigs that were well tied and cheap.
  10. My guess Ham would be that you were too quick.
  11. While only an idiot would try to predict the weather, if this June hot transforms into normal, or below, temperatures for July like it has often done in the past y'all will survive.
  12. I have know of people who would eat 2 and 3" GS. They would gut them, bread them and deep fry them to crispy. It was said the the bones would soften to nothing, at least that is what was said, but take it with a dose of salt.
  13. Yeah, Boze Mill. Did you swim in it? It resembles a pond JD.
  14. That's good news. I've been wondering how they were doing since it got very close in 2008.
  15. No I haven't. I'm too old to even wrestle my light crafts through the brush any more.
  16. You can turn on AA and immediatly turn right, don't know the roads name, and take it to an area to park and access the river.
  17. Be sure and check the regulations for the lake.
  18. I've never caught a Warmouth, don't venture into their territory, but the markings on the hybrid are about what I would look for, along with a slightly different shape. I suppose a biologist would have to tell us if it is even a possibility?
  19. Not what you want to hear, but it's the one that has what you want at an acceptable price. It can also be said that the shops in the area cater to different markets for the most part. The exception might be the park store, but it has a different mandate being partnered with the state.
  20. I wouldn't overlook the Curado's. The 200 had a long run and my four 100's are going strong. The Diawa Z's are also excellent reels. I would keep an eye on E-bay for the best value. The thing about short rods for me is in working a lure where I want to keep the tip near the surface. For the most part I like 6' rods, but action is more important to me. I work with a 5 1/2' BPS for top water and jerks with a pair of Falcons chopped to 6'3" and a Cabelas TRX factory 6'3".
  21. I'm not real familiar with the newer models of Diawa's and Shimano's, but the older ones have been worth the money. My first choice in rods are the Falcons, but the St Croix's are also good. If you're on a budget I would suggest a Shimano Curado 200 off of E-bay, in excellent shape and no "minor" scratches. You can probably get one for under a hundred. I would then probably mate it to a new low end St Croix. You might break that $150, but it will be worth it in the long run. Used rods aren't worth much. . For line the XL is a good line in abusive situations, but for me its P-line Premium. I've used a lot of lines and I've never found one better. You shouldn't need a lot of line to learn with if you do it right. I would star with enough to fill the spool and if you abuse it change it when you start fishing. Casting is all about a smooth consistent reel and educating your thumb. Don't let some perceived need of distance to mess up your education, accuracy and a smooth cast should be the target and the rest will follow naturally.
  22. The Wilderness Tarpon has been a round a long time and is well thought of. He could probably get a couple of 10' or 12' from Appomattox in Virginia at a reasonable price. The SOT (sit on top) kayak has a short learning curve and is very stable. The sit ins are fine but overall won't give the security feeling that the SOT does.
  23. You have to remember that the generators run on gravity and it takes a good head to turn those monsters. I don't know what minimum is, but I do know there is one.
  24. It can get crowded below the dam. I would check out the Long hole, anywhere between the hatchery outlet and the whistle. It has a nice straight forward slope into the water and a long and reasonably clear back cast area. I would try to get close to the whistle if possible.
  25. Wow you aren't kidding about a little bit of everything.
