  1. They weren't near as loud today and I suspect they're wrapping up.
  2. I like short rods also, althouh I don't mind 6' with a #ammy because I have a rod I like. I use a 5 1/2 for Pointers and X Raps. For me it's strictly braid, it floats, it broadcasts, and it will whip most theiving trees. Sammies are to expensive to decorate trees with.
  3. Me neither, maybe a half dozen crappie in the spring or some whites if I get them, but not many. I'll bet the blacks are good though because they can be thick and meaty.
  4. Did the water get into Riley's Station?
  5. I wouldn't think it would be any faster now than when they run all the gens? the edges should be larger, but it is probably a decision that should be made at the river based on your experience.
  6. I know with that many horses you probably shouldn't have a problem. Are you familiar with the operation of the trim? It can make a big difference.
  7. They'll be biting tomorrow at Bennett, and the next day, and the next day, and....................................................................so on.
  8. Looking at it closer on the computer, rather then the phone, I think the way you're holding it might make the body appear a little deeper than it actually is. I think Gavin is referring to the slight elongation of the gill flap. Personally I don't think it's abnormal.
  9. It is kind of funny that it hasn't been that many years ago that we were worried that there wouldn't be enough water for generation.
  10. FT the shape would suggest a cross.?
  11. So are they putting some type of concrete structure somewhere along the road that passes between the dam and the basin? I assume Truman is to high to lower the water and work on the bank.
  12. They will run into uncontrollable emotions some day, some of them will get hurt and some normally peaceful individuals will be in trouble they didn't ask for.
  13. I would say no! When the rise is from rain across the entire watershed all the feeders and springs keep feeding it and slowing the drop. If you get a rise because of rain in Wright or some part of Dallas county it will drop fast sometimes, depending on how much rain.
  14. Its not who writes it but who provides the information. More often then not it is a local vendor who is in the area and in contact with fishermen. I suspect the Bennett contact is Jim Rogers.
  15. That's good information, any idea how long it will be closed? As far as East side / west side/, I've had good and bad on both.
  16. Fortunately the offending high is forecast to start moving and bring more sun and temperatures. With higher temperatures it might seem a little muggy though. I suspect the humidity will soar.
  17. And in your condescending ways assume they weren't aware of the possibilities of flooding, just as others are aware of other phenoms. It appears in your book that anyone who takes a calculated risk, be it in business, life, or occupation is one of the above in your infinite wisdom. It appears to me, in actually making contact with some who are affected, that they aren't crying, just wanting it to be over so they can repair and move on.
  18. I was wondering about them earlier. It was hard to believe the pictures from '08 indicating how high the water came. I don't recall them having any high ground so I assume you mean they have abandoned their home and rentals?
  19. yea, but rain doesn't soak into roads, parking lots, or house tops. I don't how much difference that makes, but it has to make some.
  20. Yup if you're coming that far it would be a real downer.
  21. I suppose they didn't think Bull Shoals was enough, not to provide enough flood pool to cover the watershed. I don't know what the figures are for BS or Beaver, but Table Rocks flood pool is said to equivalent to 3 1/2" of water over the watershed. I doubt that Bull shoals could contain a normal heavy rain more than once and if it repeated before it could dump the dam would probably be compromised.
  22. Powersite was for generation and you're right that the population was sparse. That is why it is small, 1 meg if I remember right, and PRIVATE! The lower White river has been an important agriculture area for decades and hardly marginal in potential, but it was also prone to flooding. There was little more than small farms in the upper region and their value was small. The sides of hollers didn't have much value then so the area was perfect, at the time, to build flood control lakes. The Buffalo was also in the mix, but it's value was recognized in time. The success of a project can't be measured by one season and overall the lakes have been successful in their primary purpose and secondary also. Don't forget JD, we're talking 40's priorities. I made a quick search and it appears that the authorization for flood control was in the Flood Control Act of 1938. The act states, for the most part that the construction for flood control, and other purposes is under the War Department. This was followed by the Flood Control Act of 1941, for “flood control and hydroelectric power, and other beneficial water uses.”
  23. It's an Ozark bass and native to the White river. The Goggle Eye, though present isn't, if I'm not mistaken.
  24. I don't think Al is making the same point you keep trying to make. Note the lack of Dumb or Dummies for instance in referring to people who either ended up below dams, or moved there after man built them..
