  1. I don't believe you pass the marina Don. Jakes creek can be decent early in the season, fish the wood. Jakes is on the East side of Indian Point.
  2. I had a lot of hail damage. Besides the vehicles, we had an overhead camper mauled by hail, paint knocked off, 3 broken windows and some dents in a royalex canoe. We came back from Tulsa Monday and saw a new Poultry ranch with 6-8 new houses and the residence destroyed on 412 in Eastern Oklahoma. Apparently it started around Wagoner Oklahoma and dropped various times as its made it Way to Bentonville and on past Branson. Quite a long way to hold its strength.
  3. How did the Perch get started?
  4. I made my first trip over there last year, and the first Black Bass was a Hybrid.
  5. Action is real important, even when there is none. I'm torn between size and color for Bass. I believe size is only important when they are keying on some bait. I think color can often be a color, whether its a touch of Yellow for a Threadfin to red or chartreuse for the highlights on Crawdads. I think shape is irrelevant to the fish. We're not talking about a critter with reasoning, so triggers are the thing in my opinion.
  6. I like them, they catch fish. Ghost and Gold have been my 2 best colors.
  7. It varies with my mood and how I think I'll fish, and if I'm on the ball, the wind. but it will be one of 3. A 9' Scott, custom with a AT Hart reel which is a strong rod. 10' 5wt, Orvis Power matrix with a Battenkill, a great rod for "High sticking". 8' 6" 4wt, Orvis HLS Adams with a AT Hart reel. Fine Dry fly rod.
  8. If I was going tommorow, I would take my 6 weight. A 6 does pretty well on Steelhead, and they are rockets in some areas. The biggest Steelhead I ever saw caught, 32", was taken on a 5wt.
  9. well if we're going to get picky, you should also have some #18 Griffiths Gnats
  10. I have a tendency to fish them in fast water also, swinging them like a woolly. I have done well at times. Orange is my best color for some reason. I suppose the wire does add weight, but i don't know that it affects it that much in faster water. I know that the proper way to fish them has always escaped me for some reason.
  11. Sam I'm going to mix some speculation with memory. I believe the COE ramps were built, or most, before the lake filled and while the trees were being removed, etc. The lake did fill unexpectedly, if I remember right, which left a lot of private ramps short, because they weren't completed or thought of at the time. There wasn't a great deal of interest in TR when it was built. The hiways from Tulsa, KC and STL for instance weren't exactly great and were 2 lane for the most part. My memory of TR is that it developed slowly for a long time.
  12. G you need a regular C & F with the inserts of your choice. They have what you want. Here you go. http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/se...16&feat=31617XS
  13. I had an interest in them at one time, but I couldn't find what I thought was a reasonable color in the thread. He doesn't say what size thread, but I was looking at some of the heavier ones at Wal Mart. What did you use?
  14. I tied some with "Hot" wire, and they look good, but I haven't fished them enough to really form an opinion on them.
  15. There are a couple of species in Missouri waters, but I haven't seen one.
  16. Hunter I think you could come up as far as the 76 bridge as long as you were cautious about staying in the channel. If a person wanted to do some night fishing out of a boat they could probably fish right in the fish hiway.
  17. "The parcels ... are isolated, expensive to manage and no longer meeting National Forest Service needs," I don't understand this statement. For one thing I think they would have to give a little more information as to what is required to "manage" them. The forest Service doesn't have "needs" that require land, they're job is to hold our lands in trust.
  18. I've been down that upriver wind thing, It happened a couple of times to me on canyon rivers and it definably could take the fun out of a trip. I've never tried flyfishing out the yak, but I agree it doesn't strike me as something to do.
  19. There's lots of shoals between the lake and the tinhorns. You can see the bottom in all the holes above the first set of bends above the lake.
  20. I have often seen some situations myself that were dicey, either from a safety standpoint or from someone who had little regard for others. I think this is another problem easy to solve, If they were to put a heavy steel sign at the ramp, on a pole tall enough to be seen at all levels, but with the sign set to be read when to water is low. If the sign simple said "No power boating above this sign when the water is here" and with a line on the sign. It wouldn't always work for someone fishing at night, but the river will eventually take care of them.
  21. Because the land is owned by all, if they sell it to support a government function, its a tax.
  22. Brian, I don't know if its a pattern or if I came up with it while experimenting, but Its a Black and Red Tungsten head midge. At any rate i think of it as a BRT. Forsythian, You're fishing much shallower than I have been. I've avoided the shallow fishing because I don't seem to get bit on top. I'll have to try a shallower drop.
  23. Brian the Pointer is a jerk bait. Expensive, but very effective.
  24. Braggart
  25. I chased them around for a couple of hours yeasterday and only managed one. They're still taking what appears to be midges on top, but I tried several different ones, after throwing a gnat for 30 minutes or so, and it didn't help. I actually caught the one on a gray Scud. My best luck to date has been on a BRT Midge, but it hasn't been great so I thought I would try some other things, to no avail.
