  1. I think they are more interested in taking in some protein right now and it's too early light wise for them to start moving to winter holes. This can be some of the best fishing, and the most aggravating.
  2. We have two persimmon trees, but the area is weedy and more often than not anything ripe is long gone. I'll just take your word for it. I haven't seen my jaybirds, apparently they went to Jerry's. Does that mean I'll have a mild winter and he will freeze his *** off?
  3. Not to change the subject, well not much anyway. The Old Farmhouse in downtown is basicaly no longer. It was apperently sold, probably last winter. The new Farm House has higher prices, no specials and the old staff is gone. FYI. The food and much of the menu is the same as is the quality.
  4. My theory on that Al is that kids who are very talented, but not real confident or competative will end up at the "other" schools. They may well shine and build that confidence, but the ones who are ready to take on all comers for the starting spot end up at top schools. I belive that is why they contniue at the top year after year. I think that competative attitude comes out during the season and often carries them past teams that should beat them.
  5. I didn't see many Colt's. Remiington Rand, some Ithaca's and the rare Singer were the norm it seemed. The one I bought and all those supplied at the nationalls were worked over by the armory. They had the slides tightened up, the sears smoothed out and the triggers set very close to #4 and match sights installed.
  6. Don't want to rain on the parade, BUT, he is supposed to owe well over a 100K in taxes according to the news. He didn't generate that from Circle J! I knew the couple who owned it in the 80's and they ran it with a school aged teen. Granted they didn't have the resturant then, but I can't see that place earning enough to generate that much in taxes even if some are SS, etc. He must have generated the funds to but Circle J in some other business venture.

That always happens Jerry. There's a poster on thsi thread who has said Smith will never make it. Smith is the fifth winningest QB since '11. and started the season without the star running back and a patched up line. It's like fishing, you can't judge a water in a cold front.
  8. My first gun was a 311 in 20 ga. I still have it, or I should say my son does. My first 22 was a 510 Remington Targetmaster which i also still have. It was a single shot that engaged the safety when you opened the bolt. Not a bad teaching step for a kid.
  9. This is a canpground where most of the units were semi permanent with storage and sometimes covers and decks. Getting a notice to move in a hurry wouldn't be pratical for many. I suspect one problem facing the IRS is determining what belongs to the campground and what doesn't. I'm sure they're attitude is that it all belongs to the CG unless proven otherwise.
  10. I don't know about the cafe? I suppose the park might want it if it's cheap enough. They would just tear it down and hold the land. I don't know how much land is between the entrances, but the park has wanted all they can get in the past. When they bought the hollow that comprised the old ranch they got land past the natural bridge.
  11. I doubt the IRS can auction anything that the guy doesn't have title too. It won't take a judge long to have the IRS give proper notice now that they are the new "Owners". So you think the Burn's will jump the bridge Oneshot? They would probably rather have Keith's place if he ever sells.
  12. I think when it comes to grading the game was a win for the hogs. That might change if TAMU's season falters, but at this point it was a win in the progress department.
  13. That's an interesting modification JD. It does look like something that would be fun to fool with. I hand loaded from the time I was 18 and really enjoyed it and probably 30 years ago I backed off the big game hunting and started spending more time at the bench and varmit humting. I think I had more fun hunting coyotes over the years than deer, antelope or elk. I could see some hunting application for that gun. I shot at Perry in '62 and military could check out a weapon for the "National Match". The NM required a 4# trigger pull and some restrictions on modifications and most of us relied on guns that didn't meet that, hence the reason for allowing one to borrow. You could also buy the weapon if you wanted and I bought mine and paid $60+ dolllars for the 1911A1. I had it for many years, but eventually sold it, which I regretted before too long.

It was fun to watch. Reid certainly has a knack for getting a lot out of what he has. The offensive line seems to be holding up after all and I'm sure that Charles and Davis have a lot to do with that. Klece has been a great pressure relief.
  15. That was my first look at Gurley, but my inpression was that he wasn't so much quick as he was fast and hard to tackle. It will be interesting to see how he stacks up with better OLB and safeties, if there are any? It seemed to me that he doubled his output after being "touched".
  16. The Garand and the carbine were both M1's. I had M1A1 stuck in my mind, have no idea why, when i was thinking of the M14. The M14 was a glorified Garand. It was slimmed down and chambered for the 7.62X? NATO. As everyone knows now it was no match for the AK47 in the jungles of SE Asia. Special forces were leaning more and more toward shotguns, captured Ak's and anything they could find except the M14. The Air Force combat plan was strictly one of defense and evacuation and the shoulder small arms were for that. The Carbine was the weapon of choice with a few grease guns thrown in. If anyone has had a lot of experince with the carbine, I have, you know it left a lot to be desired. AF personel wern't given a lot of training in the mechanics of the carbine and it's tendency to jam made it a borderline weapon.
  17. At this point I don't see how Mizzou could be any less than even odds aginst GA?
  18. Enough of that crap stifisher, we're talking about real predictions here.
  19. I don't blame them. Opening a pizza place in Branson is probably about as lucrative as opening a new country music show.
  20. I watched it, but didn't understand it??? How can you have a kicker that lines up so far off target that you know he will miss? Last try. Why would you run 3 times in OT when that is your B&B, sometimes. I mean it seened that the AR line was more than capable of handling TAMU as long as they didn't jam the line. They jammed it big time in OT as if they expected AR to run everytime? I agree the tripping penalty was pure ignorant considering the location.
  21. They film we got telling us it was coming showed it taering through a concrete block wall. This was the early ones that were full auto. I don't know when exactly it reached the AF, but we were asked for an inventory of our M1 carbines and grease guns in '62. We didn't have any M2's. Hodgon made a fortune with surplus ball C for the parent to the 223.
  22. They aren't likely to get a good coach unless they are willing to overpay them. Few really good coaches are going to spend the time in the trenches hoping to build a reputation. They might get a Snyder assistant to take the gamble and that would be their best move. They have dug themselves a hole and for the most part it will take some time to get out of it. They can't recruit against Snyder with their record and that is where the problem starts today. People can say what they want want, but there wasn't a lot of collabortion, at least it wasn't reported, for the player conflicts with Mangino. When you act surprised at accusations and then fire a coach of his caliber it sets a precedence that is hard to overcome.
  23. Yeah I couldn't remember exactly what is was, I was thinking M1A1 for some reason.
  24. Oh Oh, I've had 4 of them most of the summer! I haven't checked the persimmons, I guess I'll have to. I always kept an eye on the horses and how much hair they put on. I was up at the kids Thursday and none of the horses, 10, had abnormal hair, at least not yet.
  25. I think that is easy to answer F&F. The press uses the word assault and the most horrendous crimes have been carroed out by assault rifles. The real culprit is of course untehered mental illness suppprted by apathy. A shotgun would do as much damage, maybe more, but they don't fit the assault category well because they come in so many configurations. I don't know how many already know the story behind the AR, but I was in the service when the AR was accepted and what many don't know is that it was turned down by the Army and the Marines. It was cold war time and the Garand had served well against the Mausers and the Ariskas. NATO had adopted the .308 and the Garand had been chopped and remolded making it ready for open warfare in areas like Europe or Korea. The Air force on the other hand was anxious to upgrade from the carbine. It had had to defend munition dumps and airfields in Korea and the carbine wasn't a good weapon for the job. The Air Force like the AR and bought it and that started production. Of course later the Army found iyself facing the AK in Nam and found the M1A1 was a club. The AR was in production on a large scale, thanks to the Air Force and its need so ramping up the output of the AR wasn't impossible.
