  1. I thought some of the complaints on TV were humorous, you would have thought the people lived in a gated community rather than a public lake. After all some said they were used to hearing bass boats during the summer at night and I'm thinking that was waking them also, but hubby probably fishes so it's OK. The carp are in the shallows it appears and getting the spawn on so I'm sure that helped the total.
  2. Fish oil isn't a bad attractor. Put some cut up fish parts in a Mason jar with a lid. Let it set in the sun for a week or so until you see a good amount of liquid. Dip your bait in it. The reason for the jar and the lid is that you don't it on anything you value, period.
  3. Word of caution. I've fished something similar and if ever there was a topwater that needed a long pause to set the hook, these are. They're worse than a worm on top.
  4. I would think they might still be near deep water or springs. I know they start moving out of BS now, at least those that winter in the lake, or at least that;s my theory.
  5. Outback in Branson has them, and they have a great sauce to with it.
  6. I think that is common in Missouri, all though Bandannas wouldn't be one I would think better. I think people born or raised in this part of the country are exposed to so many different BBQ's that don't fit the mold the rest of the country lays on it, it is easy to make comparisons. I grew up with Rosedale, Bryant's, Reagan's and Gate's, but in this area Danna's seems to rule.
  7. You can't get around the corner any more from Slough Hollow. They built the road bed up and din't make a ramp in to the field. The real loss will be in wet weather. I don't think too many will want to go to the maiden or down Fisherman's Nose at night when it's wet and muddy. On the other side it's also appears the work is in response to a 5' rise in the power pool, good for the lower White I guess, but really bad for the locals around Taney County. The Lower White has survived as a world class fishery for over 60 years and I don't understand this new crisis?
  8. They left a small lot behind the guard rail, so one doesn't have to walk too far. The down side, I would think, is that the new road hasn't been paved and seems to be pretty dusty.
  9. Danna's has 3 locations now, that I know of. Besides Branson West there is one on 76 in Kirbyville. The only thing that bothers me about Danna's is that they have eased the prices up somewhat. When they rebuilt after the fire they kept things pretty much as they were, but then started inching them up. Not something outsiders would notice, but the wife and I did because it was a favorite for us.
  10. We always did real well with Roostertails on smallies. I don't throw them anymore, but like you I have no idea why? The fish could be color specific at times, but it was still white, black, or yellow and not hard to pattern.
  11. You do say you're "gonna", many, including me, wet wade most of the season. It really depends on the particular waters you intend to fish.
  12. I would disagree that it's a nasty fish, but I don't have a problem with the event as long as the catch was put to good use. I do believe that if Morris really wanted to help he would set up a canning system and donate the food to the food banks, rather than a turtle farm in the future. he has the resources to make it happen.
  13. If it fought why would you be disappointed? It has to be more fun then reeling in an empty lure.
  14. If I can find them I have some masks you can have, I don't use them anymore.
  15. waist high breathable would be my choice. As far as boot or stocking foot, it's a toss up. You can't easily change the sole on a bootfoots. If you go with stocking foots you have more options for footwear.
  16. I have got to tie some clousers with purple. I run across success stories with that color quite often.
  17. One of my favorite meals and beats shrimp.
  18. Probably to beat the other competitors to the rare common carp. I have wondered why Morris picked TR for this? It's not a lake that has a lot of people bowfishing on it. I suppose the clear water and Big Cedar/Long Creek marina made it easy to handle?
  19. I'm very sorry to hear that. I don't know him personally, but I've enjoyed his writings.
  20. Mark if you need a good reason to not civilize an area look at the Niangua. It's being slowly filled in by nothing more than clearing timber and building on the banks. The same thing is happening to Bennett Springs. Neither is remotely the water that they formerly were. Once you take away the confines of gravel, it heads to the water.
  21. Beaver is right. I was at River Run area yesterday and it was dead. They were running water, but I suspect that because they haven't run much lately the fish just aren't drawn up there. White sliders are another choice that always seems to work.
  22. If it's available, the upstairs place, above the store, is great for bigger groups with kids. Big kitchen, dining room table sitting area, etc.
  23. You do come up with some great ideas sir.
  24. Yes and chickens shouldn't eat chickens.
  25. yes the Reed Spring shop closed quite awhile ago. It was a good shop for TR, they didn't carry much that wasn't relevant. Weather, this year it's actually closer to normal than last year, or so it seems. Skip the Landing and take the kids downtown.
